You have only listened to older Nina, when her voice had degraded a lot. If you listen to her in her 20's... well you're in for a shock. Here she is at the top of her game: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MEa6iGn7TeY.html It's a long video but she showcases lots of different kinds of music (and looks). Her voice range here was otherworldly.
She has not been a trained opera singer but sang in a choir with orchestra and was a state proven "German Schlager"singer in the GDR. One of her first and still known all over Germany Schlager Hit was "Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen, mein Michael" (You forgot to bring the colour film, my Michael, now no one will believe us how beautiful it was here, ha ha, ha ha ). She was very cute, lovely and beautiful at that time but already very cheeky. She became the "Godmother of Punk", a great feminist (in the old sense, not the woke sexist new movement). She stood up against the regime and was expatriated by the GDR. She went to the U.S. and became kind of popular there too. You definitely need to check out more of her, but be prepared for some over the top crazyness. Absolutely love her.
She's from East Berlin if I remember right..I've been a fan of hers since I was in highschool..an older guy I knew introduced me to her music..I love her voice..you should hear her cover of Abba's Like An Angel Passing Through My Room
That was really unusual, she definitely has a unique voice and style. I've only ever heard her in the Apocalyptica song before, so it was interesting to hear this. I'm not quote sure it is my thing, but I don't know if it's because the original is so wonderful. I think I need to hear more from Nina to be sure, lol.
I hate to be this person, but her last name is pronounced HA-gen (like in Ha! Ha!). She was born in East Germany in 1955. Her mother is a famous East German actress and Nina studied opera when she was 8 years old. She was allowed to leave East Germany in 1976 when she went to England and got into punk rock. She met The Sex Pistols and even scared Johnny Rotten. Some other cover songs she has done are: "Move Over" (Janis Joplin), "Ziggy Stardust" (David Bowie), "Hit Me with Your Rhythm Stick" (Ian Drury & The Blockheads) done with Freaky Fukin' Weirdos, "Riders on the Storm" (The Doors), "My Sweet Lord" (George Harrison) and "Aquarius/Hair" from the musical "Hair". This song is from one of two albums she did of 1940s Big Band Music. She has done punk, rock, rap, opera, Big Band, Hindu songs, and now does Christian music. She has worked with Apopcalytica, Oomph (German band), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lena Lovich, Adamski, and others. She has done two movies where she plays The Evil Queen in "Sleeping Beauty" and was the voice of Sally in the German version of "Nightmare Before Christmas" (I think that's the title). She has a daughter named Cosma Shiva who is an actress and was Sleeping Beauty in the above-mentioned movie. Her son's name is Otto.
