As an authentic punk, I found our Nina by accident when searching Nico, a coming as a surprise not to have heard about her,(esp since she's been about since at least 1978) but then realised how insular even the British or English New Wave/Punk scene can be when it comes to all things "foreign". She must be at least a couple of years older than me,(we do seem to mature like a fine wine or when distilling a single malt whisky, maybe a better comparison might be the fine line between how stinky blue cheeses improve and age as they rot and decay !) Funnily the video for Smack Jack has Nina dressed as Kate Bush and Cyndi Lauper, who both had huge mainstream success by the time Nina parodied them, whilst claiming to be "alternative", which is the point she's making in that film. Just when I thought I was starting to get a full picture, damn it if she isn't singing melodically Hindu songs devoted to the female aspect of Vishnu, Shiva ! (Who I have a large brass statue of, after my travels and a time I went to the Sri Mahamariamman gupola/temple each day, even placing my hands nine times in the Brahmin's sacred fire, without harm obviously, just before he led us round each shrine, finishing as usual at a giant lifesize statue of Sri Mahamariam herself, who name literally means "Saint/Holy (shree) - Great (maha) - her name (mariaman, a form of maryam/miryam/Mary)", and she represents one of the destructive aspects of the great mother goddess. Somehow intuitively knowing what was going on, I had bowed deeply, as he placed it around my neck. As I left the Temple and made my way back to where I was staying, the local Tamil Indians just kept running up to me and touching my clothing, calling me Sami, which is the same as Swami meaning "saint / sage". the way she manages her voice is incredible, I wanted to know about her because I heard her in a cover with Apocalyptica. I thought she was a gotic metal or symphonic rock singer.... I was so wrong. But she`s amazing!
She had a natural singing and never lost that.. and she is open to the cosm. It just sounds through her.. she lets that happen. You cant manage that. It manages YOU. You are just a vessel.
her mother was an opera singer and she is trained in opera as well. She has an amazing instrument. ...and charming almost menacing ....oh i worship her. here on youtube she sings "Fever " you will enjoy that.

I saw Nina live at the time she released this record. After all these years I've never become bored of her like I have a lot of singers I use to like in the 80s. She is as fanastic now as she ever was.

She was trained as an opera singer early in life. You can hear it at times but I love her amazing natural sound effects. I'm not real clear on her current Jesus trip but whatever turns you on. No female rocker comes close to what she can do.
