Dear RU-vid friends, in today's video I analyze and review the latest Nina Ricci fall/winter 2023 runway fashion show and collection which was presented during Paris Fashion Week in 2023. Harris Reed has just been appointed as artistic director of Nina Ricci at the young age of 26. It is surely a big challenge to master and harness the wheels of a historic fashion maison such as Nina Ricci. Does Harris have what it takes to embark on such a challenging role? Lets find out together in this review. I hope you enjoy my video and I hope you tune into my weekly livestreams where we tackle all things art, fashion and pop culture together. I loved many of the pieces in the show. Dacob, to me there was a like 2 or 3 different shows happening. If you pull certain pieces and look at them together I wonder if that feels more successful. Maybe it's an issue of editing down which I know can be difficult when you are younger.
For clarification, I did not like any of the faux fur... I felt the need to redeem myself, lol. I loved the black lace/tull looks, the large stripped skirts and all the flowers.
I think there is such a give and take with some designers between the desire to create sculptural avant garde artistic pieces and the reality that they ultimately need to create clothes that women can actually wear. I will acknowledge this collection as being artsy, but it is not at all wearable and I have a hard time imagining who the customer for these clothes would be.
the materials brought down this show, I think. the fabrics ranged from cheap faux fur to cheap polka dot mesh to acceptable suiting material. none of it felt luxurious, so the designs ended up suffering because of that. the silhouettes were very bratz doll, which didn't help because those silhouettes can look cheap and tacky very easily. I love that green, but I wish the looks were less monochrome. it didn't feel like a cohesive color palette when you looked at the whole show. the faux fur is the worst thing, imo. just so cheap looking and all I can think is how poorly it'll wear over time. old gnarly faux fur is so gross. completely distracted me from a lot of the show, tbh.
I have mixed feelings on this collection. There are a couple pieces that I really love like the tulle dress at 6:30. But the L'air du temps inclusions just make me sad. The two doves are such a lovely symbol of freedom following the end of WWII, and I keep a bottle on my side table as a reminder of everything my grandparents fought for. The original message behind the doves is so touching, and it's weird to see them showing up on...bras? I support Harris's artistic freedom as creative director but this collection seems a bit out-of-touch.
Call me boring or killjoy etc. but what is one going to do/go with a huge artificial rose covering half of the face? Can't be about drinking or eating for sure.
I actually love the denim suit and.....that's kind of all. It's not just the lack of....something, it's the way they styled all the outfits as well..... no, just no.
