I had always wanted to live here and made it happen. I loved Nina Simone. I listened to her when I was sad because she made me feel less alone. As I aged past teen years, I appreciated her wonderful voice, how she interpreted each song, her song choices. I'm thrilled these wonderful young men chose her.

An absorbing and absolutely brilliant singer/songwriter, she encapsulated a moment in her time so eloquently. Mississippi Goddam is such a powerful piece, as is Sinnerman. If music wasn't a known phenomenon, she would be a poet sitting with the greatest of them throughout history.

Absolutely! I'm so happy that people have told me that I remind them of her and Sarah Vaughn when I sing live. I am 65 singing since a child. My dad is Arnold Wiley and aunt Irene Wiley both singers who were a part of the Harlem Renaissance and the TOBA circuit. So growing up with this music was amazing singing as my brother played piano.

I cry every time I hear this, my father passed away in 1998 and this was a song he wanted played at his funeral. He never loved anyone but my mom, she left him and he never stopped blaming himself for it. Eventho it's a sad story my love for Nina started there

Isn't that something? It's surprising to learn that a lot of really great songs that we love are actually covers! Elvis Presley's, "Hound Dog" Maybel Thornton 1952. They were of the same era when record companies released white artist covers of Black artist's songs. Because...........yeah. But others were covered because newer artists recognized the genius. Creedence Clearwater Revival 1969 "Midnight Special" Huddie Leadbetter 1940 Eric Clapton's 1988 awesome, awesome "Crossroads" Robert Johnson 1937 60s/70s Rock bands really loved the music old Blues artists. God Bless them.

You should listen to the Santa Esmeralda version -- it's a doozy at over ten minutes, but it's a fun ride. It was used as part of the Kill Bill soundtrack, too, if you're familiar with that movie.

Nina does put you in a trace, she is so soulful, and everything she sings she puts her whole heart and soul into a song. To watch the two of you enjoy and feel the same vibes that I have been feeling since hearing Nina back in 1972, at 14 years of age, is quite amazing! You both bring me so much joy!! Nina's voice always gives me goosebumps. The Animals' version got a lot of play when I was young, but Nina's stands the test of time.

"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" was one of five songs written by Bennie Benjamin and Sol Marcus and presented for Nina Simone's 1964 album Broadway-Blues-Ballads. Apparently, composer and arranger Horace Ott came up with the melody and chorus lyrics after a temporary falling out with his girlfriend (and wife-to-be), Gloria Caldwell. Ott then brought it to writing partners Benjamin and Marcus to complete. However, when it came time for songwriting credits, rules of the time prevented BMI writers (Ott) from officially collaborating with ASCAP members (Benjamin and Marcus), so Ott listed Caldwell's name instead of his own on the credits.

Nina is Queen, every word sung with such passion and intention... ‘Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood’ is one of my all-time Nina favourites, so great to see you enjoying it!! Awesome song that has been cover several times. I like the Santa Esmeralda vision, which gave it a Latin beat to it. This vision came out in the mid 70's when disco. Great reaction guys 😁👍

She was a genius! A classically trained pianist, but I am so glad she followed the path that she did. She wrote and performed some of her own beautiful, poignant and socially conscious songs too. But that voice! So raw, so emotional!

Ella Fitzgerald, OMG, voice is like silk. Anything you listen to is beautiful, especially during her Verve years. Sarah Vaughan is also a banger. Anything by Ella or Sarah is good. But for Sarah, I especially like "Broken Hearted Melody", it is upbeat

The artistry is in the interpretation. I remember that Eric Burdon and The Animals had a huge hit with this song back in the 60's, too, and their version was much more rock. This version is far more sultry. Love it. You're right, too. She was a GOAT.
