This is from a Red Cross / Croix-Rouge charity show on French TV, with Don Pullen on piano and still going strong Leopoldo F. Fleming on percussion. Actually, Fleming was the one who came up with the idea of the double-time bongo arrangement, he is playing here on 'My Way', which he can also be heard play on the track of 'My Way' on Nina Simone's 'Here Comes The Sun' album. There is another video from a later date where Simone is even trying to play that rhythm on the piano herself without a percussionist. By the way, and which so many (even musicians!) are mistaken about, 'My Way' is NOT composed by Paul Anka, but is a French song "Comme d'habitude" composed by Jacques Revaux with lyrics by Gilles Thibaut and Claude François. Paul Anka wrote the English lyrics.
Amazing for real! I love how she starts "My Way" all nonchalant and laid back, like not a care in the world and then she starts to get down big time!!! This is a rare gem for real.
two of my favorite covers by her, together. amazing, she will always be my favorite. theres an endearing quality of her, a vulnerability, and a "boss" quality to her as well, gives me chills she knows how to build emotionally in a song
oltre la musicista ecclettica e colta ...qui dimostra un' adesione che sembra raccontare la sua esperienza...di Donna impegnata nel New Deal...e nello stesso tempo Emblema universale dell'artista assoluto.
Ne Me Quitte Pas is one of those very famous French songs you hear everywhere. But what does Ne Me Quitte Pas mean? Well let’s say it’s not a happy song. Source: Just French It
"Forget the times And the misunderstandings The lost time The blows The hours that robbed our hearts of joy Don’t leave me" 2:02 English Translation of Ne Me Quitte Pas by Jacques Brel
"I planned each charted course Each careful step along the byway And more, much more than this I did it my way" 5:05 Paul Anka, Jacques Revaux, Claude François and Gilles Thibaut
Ne me quitte pas - Jacques Brel’s song will never go away Michael Hann - NOVEMBER 29 2021 For a song written about a very particular set of circumstances, Jacques Brel’s “Ne me quitte pas” has proved to have universal power. For who, at some point in their life, has not been so inconsolably, desolately, unbearably heartbroken that they are willing to lose all dignity and echo Brel’s plea: “Don’t leave me”? This is how I hear this song inside when I think of it. Jacques Brel is heartbreaking and beautiful- but not Nina Simone. She is the voice of my soul when it aches.
Ne me quitte pas Il faut oublier Tout peut s'oublier Qui s'enfuit déjà Oublier le temps Des malentendus Et le temps perdu A savoir comment Oublier ces heures Qui tuaient parfois A coups de pourquoi Le coeur du bonheur Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Moi je t'offrirai Des perles de pluie Venues de pays Ou il ne pleut pas Je creuserai la terre Jusqu'après ma mort Pour couvrir ton corps D'or et de lumière Je ferai un domaine Ou l'amour sera roi Ou l'amour sera loi Ou tu seras reine Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Je t'inventerai Des mots insensés Que tu comprendras Je te parlerai De ces amants-là Qui ont vu deux fois Leurs coeurs s'embraser Je te raconterai L'histoire de ce roi Mort de n'avoir pas Pu te rencontrer Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas On a vu souvent Rejaillir le feu De l'ancien volcan Qu'on croyait trop vieux Il est para'?t-il Des terres brulées Donnant plus de blé Qu'un meilleur avril Et quand vient le soir Pour qu'un ciel flamboie Le rouge et le noir Ne s'épousent-ils pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Je ne vais plus pleurer Je ne vais plus parler Je me cacherai là A te regarder Danser et sourire Et à t'écouter Chanter et puis rire Laisse-moi devenir L'ombre de ton ombre L'ombre de ta main L'ombre de ton chien Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas Ne me quitte pas
She seems frustrated in this performance. I thought it was interesting that she was singing a french song to a french audience. She must have been aware that she would be scrutinized not only for her pronunciation but also because she chose to do such a famous french song. She even says "Sorry about the words y'all." Lol, you can tell she was struggling with that the entire time. It's part of why I love her so much. I wish I could give her a hug for a good two minutes. I bet it would have been the most soulful hug ever to have been, full of understanding and unsurpassed soothing. haha My Way was the bees knees
