The only reason I say experimental/Progressive is cause if you listen to their old stuff or live stuff, they implement, or "experiment" with new sounds and other styles of playing lol. Progression isnt something they focus on too much but The Downward Spiral and some of Broken and The Fragile does have progression in it. Their primary influence is clearly industrial but the only reason I feel the need to add experimental/progressive is cause their play and music style is a bit beyond the standard industrial. Havent found many copy cats. Also you're right about Orgy I was pretty stoned when I said Orgy was a good example lol.
Trent Reznor post 90's isn't even the same person. Don't know exactly what happened but even seeing him perform songs from this era he has none of the same fire.
He this much fire because he was basically in the direct heat of the feelings he was conveying. Now he's just calling back to that time and has more mellow, satisfied feelings rather than the burning pain and angst and other things he had.
If he kept in that way he would've die outta overdose or suicide. He went through therapy and rehab and I'm glad he did it, even though he won't ever reach his peak again, It's better him alive, not suffering and still making music.
Looks like there's two drum kits on that stage. Look at 01:16, that's clearly not Vrenna. He never had that goatee. 2:03 that's Vrenna on a different kit, with the bleach blond hair he had at the time and no goatee. The only one shown playing a keyboard here is Danny Lohner.
