Snooker star Jack Lisowski takes on Dan Suh in his nineball debut at the 2023 UK Open Pool Championship at the Copper Box Arena in London. #matchroompool #nineball #pool #9ball #ukopenpool #snooker
At least Dan Suh can tell everyone he played against Jack Lisowski while the most of the guy's on youtube are not even able to reach their keyboard because of too much junk-food and beer in their belly. Yeah the match was awful, but no need to make hate comments guy's.
@@justinmontemayor310 what does matchroom have do with the performance of the players? It's not like they can push a button backstage to make them play better or worse
Good on Dan Suh for having a go. Easy to criticise him but he’s had a great experience here. Good luck to him. Anyone can dig someone out from behind a keyboard, but he’s put his ego to one side and done something he will always remember.
@@brettbarker8444 And I bet Dan's game will improve from having seen Jack close up. Once Jack gets a handle on the balls and pockets he will be formidable.
Well said. If anyone want to criticize, put yourself out there first. Dan will only get better by positing himself in tough matches with lots of pressure
@@nakkadu He's a much better snooker player. In fact, I find it strange to see him in this pool tournament, considering the prize money is only $30,000 for the winner. He probably earns that much for wearing a sponsorship patch on his snooker waistcoat. Regardless, great to see him playing. I thought he did alright, almost won 9-0 but ended up 9-3. Formidable result for his debut, really
@@butler-macdonald8351 I know he's a good snooker player, he probably entered this competition for fun. I wouldn't call his result "formidable" given the standard of his opponent
just my 2 cents: i think Dan didn't expect the balls to squirt extra on the new cloth, (actually both players didnt but Jack was able to adjust), like when you are so used to putting side spin on each shot on a regular cloth for a new cloth the squirt would make you miss on the thick side every time and thats exactly what happened. I only learnt this becos that happened to me when the pool hall I used to go to changed new cloths and i missed all my shots that night but 2 weeks later it became normal again. Like when the cloth is a bit worn out it would have more friction and hence preventing it from squirting too much
Yes, people don’t realize how hard it is to play on new cloth if you’re not used to it. Pair that with 4-inch pockets and it can make even a decent player look real bad.
Good luck trying to enter, this tournament is filled in minutes when the sign-up is opened. I know many people who tried to enter but just couldn’t. And yes, technically anyone can enter this tournament.
that's because phil yates is commentating, aka the worst commentator in 9ball ever. I've listen to chinese commentary that is better than yates, and i don't know a single word of chinese...
I'd like to believe now that Jack has his first game under his belt he will calm down a bit. Anyone that's watched him play snooker knows he's a brilliant cueist and wouldn't miss majority of these balls normally.
@Udtojan Pestillos I know, like Trump last year I have no expectations of him winning the tournament. Patterns of play in 9ball are very different to Snooker.
@@kb_dev agreed snooker players are definitely better cueists and play the harder game, but they are very different games which is why snooker players dont always do well in pool. But at the same time not a single pool player would even have a chance at winning a snooker frame against a snooker player.
@@vinaye20 yeah theres not an out and out pool player aliving taking frames of jack in snooker. jack doesnt even really know the rules too well, he didnt even realise he had ball in hand.. pool is just something fun for snooker players to try and to take part in as the skillset carries over well,.. pool players skills sets just arent transferable to snooker
Been watching pool & snooker for 25 yrs and never snort laughed my way through an entire match like this 1 before 🤣👌😅 What an absolute train wreck dumpster fire 🔥 And I’m a massive Jack fan from for 5 + yrs, but he didn’t pot more than 3 balls in a row the whole match did he? He followed up BOTH insanely beautiful kicks with easy misses (the crazy great kick on the 7, followed by the straightforward 8 miss, then the crazy great kick on the 6 followed by the easy 7 miss) 😣😝 Jack Shooting too fast, both guys missing straightforward 9-balls, not knowing the rules, Dan going for insane dumb long cuts when easy safeties are the only option, Dan missing ball in hand on a straight in one-ball?!?! Only once in professional pool have I only seen that done before.. 🤦♂️🤦♂️ Just wow - thanks for the laughs today Matchroom!! I’m gonna enter the next UK 9-ball Open!! 😅👍
The commentary is more cringey than the play - snooker is like a fine-art masterpiece where 9-ball is like a child's scrawl which you put on the fridge anyway, to make the kid feel better. Why wouldn't a player go for planting the 9 at any opportunity - 9ball already turned off the need to think, why not put a challenge in there?
Easy to say this match was a 'car crash' or 'unconventional'. I didnt here any ideas from the comms about what should be the right shot or play. Quite frustrating to listen to.
It was fun.Of course we don’t want to see anyone suffer, but this adds a bit of perspective to the viewing audience. I t Can happen to anyone Of course I must point out how this points out the ridiculous of a purple five ball. Jack is not a pool player but all his experience an preparation for this pool tournament was of course on pool tables as used by 99.9% of the rest of the WORLD. Normally the 4ball is purple and the 5 ball is orange. Understandable how come Jack played position for the purple after the red 3. Of course it was the wrong ball per Matchroom. I bet Jack would agree on the stupidity of switching, say, the pink 6 and the black 7 on a snooker table. “NEVER HAPPEN”. Get it together Match - Room, Get rid of the Purple 5 !!
Ronnie and Steve did such a good job playing pool in the early 2000’s in the Mosconi cup. I always thought any pro snooker player could hold their own against a pro pool player. I wonder what’s changed. I mean Jack isn’t Ronnie but he’s no slouch. Even Judd struggled a couple years ago in the US open.
You may not understand how bad the level was. I do not mean it to be offensive to Jack or Dan but this is below the level of bad amateurs. It would be hard to comment and not make jokes.
Jack is so frustrating, you can see he is an awesome snooker player but it fails to come out in tournaments, i feel if he wins just one single tourny he will win loads more including the worlds ...... I hope he does he is such a nice guy.
Great to see Jack involved! Nine Ball and pool in general is such a different game. The level of snooker players is just something else. Great fun to watch and a good laugh this game too.
It was very apparent to me that Jack struggled with the cut-induced throw of pool balls. Just about every routine cut shot he missed (and even some of his makes) was on the full side. Pool balls are heavier than Snooker balls, so the cue ball will throw the object ball more offline. And of course, there are points on the pockets (instead of rounded edges on Snooker tables), which he hit a couple of times. I have no doubts he aimed just as he would in Snooker, but simply didn't understand the physics of pool and how the pockets are different. A little unfortunate because I'm sure there will be some pool fans on here saying he sucks, when in fact he's one of the best shot makers in the world for any cue sport. Hopefully, it also shows Snooker-only fans that pool is not the same game and you can't just come onto a pool table and expect to be great.
It usually takes couple tournaments for a snooker players to adapt, if Jack won’t give up on this like Judd, I’m sure he’ll be okay. Still waiting for a pro pool player to join snooker tho, maybe Shaw can make it.
@Space Boy Productions - He didn't train with him on the TV table. Plus, it was for like 30 minutes. That's not enough to just hit a pool table and never miss.
@John Palmer see, and that's the difference between a pool player and a person that just plays pool 🤷♂️ 30 minutes wouldve been enough for a lot of people I know. Any real player can pick up a new cue and adjust to the weight right away, and also table conditions
You can’t just enter a pool tournament with zero practice, not play with your own cue, and expect to do anything. Jack, and every other professional snooker player, have all the physical tools necessary to play pool at a high level (not the highest level, but very good), but you have to give yourself time to acclimate. I can’t, for the life of me, understand why these snooker players aren’t at least using their snooker cues. They’re already intimately familiar with them, and you’re not going to find a pool cue with less squirt than a snooker cue.
@@fallios You definitely can. A friend of mine plays pool and snooker. Although he mostly plays pool with his Parris pool cue (11mm tip), he also plays pool with his snooker cue (10mm tip, maybe smaller). Before he got his pool cue, he always played both games with his snooker cue.
Exactly. I don't understand why they at least wouldn't use a Chinese 8 ball cue (snooker cue with a larger tip). Traditional pool cues feel and play very differently compared to snooker cues.
Pool IS easy, but that does not mean by default that the top pool players who have been playing their game for years, will lose to a snooker player at pool. It means it is easy for everyone, especially the top pool players who have been playing their game for years. I would be competitive at pool against a top snooker player but they would slaughter me at snooker.
@@seanscanlon9067 Pool is easy? You are full of crap, my friend. All the snooker players I know are trash at pool so give your ego a rest. It's your mentality that causes people to lose their money thinking pool is easy. Wanna gamble your house, etc.? It's easy, right?
im not a pro player, but i can assure you that i wouldnt miss more than the Dan suh AKA the Asian guy also his technique looks like a massive chicken wing lol
How is this guy even in the competition abysmal pool not even close to decent stuff. I'd give Jack a better game than this an I've probably played 50 frames of 9ball in my life. Shockingly bad.
Wow. This was painful. Did Jack not even talk to anyone about pool? I mean he didn’t even seem to understand that the balls are bigger, and play bigger. Couldn’t watch the whole match.
Crazy how snooker players can just get an invite to something like this the day before and win. If any pool player took even a frame off of Jack in a snooker match I would be very surprised. The level of snooker players is insane.
@@jedross2136 ok well your comment suggested you thought jack played well....he was absolute dog💩 and the other guy would struggle to get onto a pub team with the form shown in this video.
love most billiard sports, snooker to 9 ball, but does anyone even watch or care about pool anymore? they havent played that shit on TV in america in like 15 years. just seems dead, but the tournaments are still going i guess
I thought the comments were exaggerating and literally being "internet warriors" but they were really just being honest 🤣 I'd like to join up for the next tournament as this was really like watching a match at the local pub. 💯
is he supposed to be good? why is he missing so many shots? im no pro but it honestly feels like I could hold my ground against him in a race also his techniqe looks like a massive chiken wing lol
Scrappy match. I don't know if it was nerves, the speed of the table, something else but it seemed that Dan Suh was not playing up to standard at the start. Maybe too much banter at the beginning! Also in the first rack, it was decent that Dan declared his no-rail foul, but he didn't have to (this is a competition), and Dan was probably kicking himself considering the score after the first 8 frames.
Reminds me of being in 6th form at school about 20 years ago when the girls would occasionally insist on taking over the pool table at lunchtime. It was pointless the table having pockets.
