So Donnie fell in love first, has gotten a couple kisses but April can't make up her mind, Leo fell in love with his half-sister who then turned into a snake, Mikey fell in love with a time traveler and now Raph has a girl who's just as tough as him, isn't related, lives in the same time and doesn't have another love interest around. Let's be honest, Raph has done the best so far out of the whole group.

I'm choosing to assume they didn't show the kiss because the animators didn't want to have to figure out how to draw it...

Raph got a kiss on the first date. I never would've imagined that out of all the turtles he would have the most game. Then again, it doesn't get any more "star crossed lovers" than this.

Raph is a sweetheart. I think people forget that sometimes. He likes tough ladies? I knew there was a reason he's always been my favorite. ^_~ The "touch noses" conversation had me rolling! "My nose will be ready." wtflol

I really wish some of the fans wouldn't act so spoiled about Mona Lisa's appearance in this series as a love interest for Raphael. I mean yeah, it's weird, but the concept of the series is weird to begin with, and this show is trying to revamp characters from the original cartoon as well as other previous incarnations. And then it's annoying when they don't approve of them being a thing but their ideas are just as messed up.

LOVED!!! IT!!!! And, yes, I was one of the 80's fangirls who begged for Nick to bring back Mona Lisa. And yet, lots of fans are upset for one of two things: 1) Mona Lisa didn't have hair and wasn't considered "pretty enough" for Raphael since she wasn't a human girl turned mutant and 2) Tumblr people are comparing Raphael changing her name to the Colonists naming the Indians or the Elis Island thing. I dunno, I just don't see the harm. She has a hard name to pronounce and she seemed to like the name fine, so.....yeah. Internet.

I'd be down for an episode where April, Karai, Mona, and Renet all team up. I would love to see how those four would interact.

I don't know.... On one hand, I'm glad that Raph has got a girl, but on the other hand, their relationship in this episode seemed...Forced. All I have to say, is they better not do the 80's show bit where Mona Lisa only got one episode... Otherwise, this fan will rage... This fan will rage a lot...

It just occurred to me that in almost every TMNT adoption, Raphael is always the one who ends up getting a girlfriend. Even if it only takes him one or three episodes of him just meeting the girl

How'd you know about my letters?!? The ice sliding part reminded me of the movie. I think it was like a nod to that. As far as Mona goes...I'm satisfied. I would have loved it if she was a scientist or...a mutant instead of an alien (because there is like..barely any girl mutants) and I would have liked to see her a little more girly or sweet I guess. The reason I loved Mona in the 80's show, was because; she made the best of her situation, she was smart and she was really sweet and kinda girly, but not in that damsel in distress way. She still held her own and had her own wit. The Mona we got, was a VERY predictable personality. That being said, I don't hate her for being her own thing, I really do like this version of her, She's probably the largest woman so far! xD Tho, she's got some competition for badassery. I'm HOPING she's not a one episode wonder like the 80's cartoon and I'm hoping that...once they go back to the future or fix the future that she doesn't just go away.

XD thank you for adding that pun from Mona Lisa's first appearance in the 80s cartoon. I was really happy to see her in this episode and how she was a hardcore warrior lady. (and oh my gosh I knew that Raph and Mona's relationship would be like Hans and Lea! XD Oh I can't believe how many Star Wars references are already packed in Season 4, but I like it)

I haven't watched this show since the middle of season 2, should probably get back into it.

+Black Nerd Comedy This episode shattered my childhood. I grew up seeing TMNT 2003 and never once saw Mona, I even looked for a comic to see of she was in it and found none. Then a friend tells me to watch the new season of the show and i get punched in the face when I see her. After 25 years of her not being in any tmnt show she comes back and adds to the "More Romance" thing the show has. Yes she looks cool, fights good, but i would have loved this if Nick did not feel the need to make it romantic the first time they met. I never really liked Mona when i first heard of her back when i was 13. I thought she was too much of a "Come save me" type, and I surely do not love her now, in fact I dislike her on a greater level now. She went from "Save me" to "I like you cause you can fight." In my opinion Nick is pleasing some fangirls with this... I don't mind her being back, but romanticizing the show to please a few of the fans, and because they can, does not mean they should.

I thought the Ice sliding was homage to the mountain sliding from the latest movie

I would have liked her to be a little closer to her original character but I have waited 20+ years for Mona Lisa's return so I will take her any way I can get her. I am one of those happy 80's Turtle fan girls. I was heartbroken and disappointed when IDW started implying that Alopex and Raph were going to be a couple. With all of the 80s characters in IDW I was hoping for Mona. I got her in the show, I'm good. Raph has has more girlfriends (not simple crushed but actual requited love) canonly than his brothers combined. That said, Raph is definitely the sub in that relationship and he likes it that way. :P

this review was all over the place. Andrea, you're hilarious, and my day has been made. I laughed way too hard

It was probability a 3D animation issue instead of censorship. It would be somewhat difficult to animate the kiss with two snouted characters. This way the audience still knew it happened and got to see the other characters reacting to the kiss.

They kinda rushed the romance I feel. I presume the Salamandrians will appear again in future episodes, so why not have Raph and Mona's feelings evolve over time and just end this episode with her pretty much saying "Yeah okay, you turtles aren't so bad after all. Especially you, Raph." and then kiss him on the noes as like a friendly gesture. But that's my only complaint. I am very happy to have Mona in this series at long last.

I do wish that the new Mona Lisa looked more like her original design, but I do really appreciate that the show's creators even bothered to bring back a one shot character like her from the original cartoon after all these years and has rekindled her relationship with Raph (which is AWESOME lol). I don't know if any other franchise out there goes out of its way to research what the fanbase honestly likes as much as this Ninja Turtle series does, they honestly had to have done research & seen how popular Mona Lisa was with the fanbase to even consider reviving her character for modern times, & I'm glad they did. Besides, this also improves her odds of becoming a recurring character in any future turtle series after this one, so maybe she'll get her ponytail and bandana back then XD. Oh, and Keith David is ALWAYS welcome as the voice of a new badass character, SALCOMMANDER FOR THE WIN! URRAH! >8D P.S. besides, at least her new incarnation is legitimately cool despite her altered appearance...Unlike what they did with the Punk Frogs (no offense to anyone who liked them, but to me the new Punk Frogs were pretty unimpressive).

One thing I'd like to point out is that the robot in tmnt had a scene where he held out his hand while a white glow from his spaceship was behind him essentially inviting the turtles to come on his ship. And in Doctor who they have the doctor hold his hand out while there's a white glow from the tardis behind him and he's saying "come with me " I think that was a slight reference to David tenants role as the doctor

Every time the commander spoke I kept expecting the theme for Gargoyles to play. xD

Why are you so concerned by death on this show? Everyone died on the season finale!

Pretty neat Episode! I kinda wished Mona Lisa and April had abit more interaction just so it would kinda but not kinda connect them in a way and it would give me an excuse to give some Mona Lisa Trivia that connects 80s Mona Lisa to 2012s April O'Neil. You could say it's... Relative! Eh? EHHHHHHHH!? Thank you! I'm here all night providing bad puns... Anywho. Awesome Recap Andre!

Okay, I had two gripes with this episode. 1) Though Keith David and Zelda Williams are great VAs, I have to admit that they were giving some pretty stilled and one-note writing to work with. It was very evident during Mona and Sal-commander's dialogues. 2) I felt Mona and Raph's relationship progressed WAAAYYYYY too quickly. I don't have a problem with them showing signs of starting to like each other, but I kinda wish their relationship at least had some build-up over a couple of episodes before we got that pay-off kiss. Still, despite that, this episode wasn't that bad. (also, I get that Casey is a teenage boy and all, but can we stop making him sound like a TOTAL goober in his dialogue. I don't mind those moments from time to time, but I also like to see him actually be more quippy and cool like he was before in previous generations).

'nother peck on the cheek. Raph? Meets the girl and is locking lips in under 20 minutes. What is he, Sokka?

I like this episode, it was interesting. I liked your "Raphael met his match" reference, it was funny. F.Y.I., Keith David also did the voice for Goliath in the Gargoyles series. Everything else you said about the episode was good. :)

I'm happy for Raphael, but that was reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally out of nowhere, from both of them. Not even Disney makes characters fall in love that fast.....kinda

I believe they were calling him the "Sal Commander", not "Salamander Commander". The romance is honestly my least favorite aspect of this show. Not just because the turtles never had that interest in the Mirage comics (that I recall), but because it just seems consistently contrived, inorganic and poorly handled. But I've pretty much learned to live with it.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who found the covering Mikey's eyes gesture really cute.

When he said "it seems like Raphael met his match" I knew the reference. The reference for those who don't know is season 4 episode 17 of TMNT in 1987.

You know, in addition to Ice Planet Hoth, I did think Raph's question about a turtle and a lizard getting together sounded a lot like Han's question to Luke about "a princess and a guy like me...." from A New Hope. Also, at first, I thought this episode might go somewhere along the rout of Enemy Mine.

Meh, it could have been better. I mean don't get me wrong, the whole episode was good but the only issue I have with it is that the relationship between Raph and Mona Lisa felt kinda rushed. They don't show much of what they could relate to one another or how their relationship grows. After she was saved, Mona all of a sudden fell in love with Raph with no reason what so ever. Why not save the kiss for later in the show instead of throwing it in there? Overall it was nice to see her in this show and the episode was good but it still felt like it only exist to show us Raphael and Mona Lisa fall in love...and spawn even more sexual ninja turtles fan fictions.

I'm expecting the next Navy commercial to say, "Navy: Accelerate your life. *gargle, gargle, gargle*"

Okay, the first two relationships I can get behind. Donnie's puppy dog love getting him nowhere is cute to watch. Leo's and Karai's thing is a little more down to earth and not as one sided. Both had time to develop into ... well ... something. Now, Mikey's crush on that space travelling girl and Raph's on Mona's was just handled badly. Like; REALLY badly. Both these episodes were so awkward and hard to watch. Especially Mona's one eighty was so weird. Don't get me wrong, I do like the idea and the re imaginings, but the way this was handled was just plain out bad and forced.

As a Saints Row fan, I thoroughly lost my shit when I heard Keith David.

This is kinda unrelated, but has anyone else thought about the fact that if (and they obviously will) the Turtles succeed in stopping the Triceratons destroying Earth again, then there should be another version of them already on Earth? The version of them that existed before the Triceratons annihilated the world and the Fugitoid brought them back in time. Even now, while they're off sailing around space, their past selves should be on Earth living out the events that they already did during the few months that they traveled back through. Should we start placing bets now on whether or not this will be addressed?! :P
