The fact that Nino used that girl as a shield for the firing bullets not only displays how ruthless he really is, it also depicts how much of a coward he was, putting other people (a child, mind you) in a fatal position just to save his own malevolent skin.

Uh, oh! New Jack City!!! I’m aging myself, but I 11 when the movie was released. Seen it, many, many times. Still, one of my all-time favorite movies.

Too easy. The next movie is Hustle and Flow. I can't wait!

New Jack City is one of my favorite movies. That, Boyz N The Hood, Juice & Menace II Society is the Mount Rushmore of hood classics. Each movie taught us life lessons, launched a lot of careers & each movie is still relevant 30 plus years later. Pookie should have been in the X games the way he was riding that bicycle. Judd Nelson looked out of place in this movie because he was apart of the brat pack & he was in The Breakfast Club & St. Elmos’ Fire. Uniqua played by Traci Camilla Johns resembles Kelly Rowland. Some people didn’t know that was her playing Uniqua because she looked totally different in this movie. Here comes the fun facts: Martin Lawrence was supposed to play Pookie. He didn’t due to the untimely death of his mentor Robin Harris. Martin took Robin’s death really hard. Chris Rock bombed the audition. What made the writers, directors & producers have a change of heart when he said it keeps calling me man & calling me man. He embodied the crackhead role. Him & Allen Payne were also in CB4, Wesley Snipes & the late Bill Nunn were also in Mo Better Blues & Money Train, Bill Nunn & Michael Michelle were also in Def By Temptation & Bill Nunn was also on New York Undercover. One of the dudes who got smart with Scotty & Peretti when they asked where Nino lived was played by the late Leo O’Brien (Richie from The Last Dragon). Next week’s review is Hustle & Flow.

This is one of my favorite 90s movies. This movie has so many one liners. Sit your five dollar ass down. When Nino did his rant in court. “ I’m taking everyone with me. This ish is bigger than Nino Brown” and when the old man said “ Nino your soul is required in hell ! Very good writing.

"That teacher you killed? That was my MOTHER!!!" As a teacher and the daughter (and granddaughter and GREAT-granddaughter) of a teacher, that line still hits me hard.

I used to watch this movie at least once a week. It's been two years since Also at 3:52, that was the landlord but he wasn't Fat Smitty. Smitty was a rival drug dealer, and Keisha ended up blowing his head off in broad daylight.

Movie is for sure a classic, in the mold of an old blaxplotation film. I honestly think there are some less than good performances, namely Ice T and Vanessa Williams, like they almost seem to be over and under acting at the same time. But Wesley Snipes absolutely kills it, he kind-of carries the whole movie with how good he is as Nino Brown. Chris Rock did a good job as well and poor Allen Payne had to get bitched so much as G-Money! Another good video!

I love how they used Scarface as reference toward this movie showing the different between Tony Montana and Nico Brown.

I wonder if Nino was Diddy’s inspiration for his Bad Boy persona? A lot of similarities 😅

Fun Fact: Warner Bros wasn't too keen on letting Mario Van Peebles direct NJC, as they felt a rookie director was a bad bet. However, Clint Eastwood (whom starred alongside Mario in Heartbreak Ridge) told the WB execs to give Mario a shot. And thus, New Jack City was made.

This is one of my favorites, and the soundtrack was amazing! Imagine my surprise when I first watched it and saw Judd Nelson from the 80's John Hughes classics 'The Breakfast Club' and 'St Elmos Fire' in a certified hood movie!😂🤯😂

The Martin hint from the last video was such a perfect hint! Now I remember bits and pieces of this movie (I’ll have to watch it in its entirety later). Yes, Nino had no heart, no conscious, nothing. And I like the Ruthless counter/sticker. He was definitely a twisted Robin Hood in a way: being rich, harming and helping the poor. I applaud Scotty for holding his composure cause the way h-ll would’ve broke loose!! In the end, karma is real and Nino got what he deserved: smoked by that old man! A movie full of selfishness and bad decisions. Good review! As for next week’s review, all I’m gonna say is it’s hard out here for a pimp! H&F!!

18:36 i seen this movie over 1000 times, I finally caught this. Scotty could have stopped the old man, but at that point he was like "F" it.

I don't know why, but do y'all think Nino is supposed to represent the American government and the Carter residents/surrounding area represent the black community as a whole? - Kicking the Carter residents out of their apartments for his headquarters, mirroring the displacement of black families during urban renewal projects that often led to gentrification. - Introducing a cheaper, more addictive drug into into the already drug system he had (many had no choice but to take it), mirroring the 80s/90s crack epidemic. - Giving money and food to the displaced Carter residents as if it wasn't his fault they're like that, mirroring welfare programs like ebt and section 8 in attempt to seen as helping, but the root causes of the problems (often linked to systemic issues) are not addressed, leading to a cycle of dependency and control.... lol, i may just be overthinking but yeah. forgot to add, great analysis/commentary btw! very much spoke on/pointed out several things that i questioned/noted as well!

I love your take on movies. I don't know if you will see this but I would your analysis on the movie: Uninvited Guest starring: Mekhi Phifer, Mari Morrow, Mel Jackson, Melinda Williams. Very underrated & great movie.

I love that movie. Sugar Hill some years later is also good movie with totally different vibe and pace. If you expect New Jack City 2 welcome to disappointment😅.

Fun fact: near the beginning of the film, you can see a buff bodyguard shoving a girl out the door of the club. At the time he was working as an actual bouncer, but that’s Vin Diesel with hair.

Destroying the community at night but passing out charity during the day reminds me of Diddy. He grabbed onto TD Jakes and gave back the publishing rights to Bad Boy artists to confuse people.

So, I learned a couple things about this movie: 1. Apparently LL Cool J was suppose to play the role of G Money 😭 ( he went on Questlove’s show to talk about his movie career). 2. Four people in this movie have worked with Spike Lee. 3. There was no bullet when Nino shot G Money for betraying him 💀. 4. When Martin parodied that one scene in the movie where Nino and his crew were wearing all Black was ironic because Martin was actually considered for the role of Pookie before Chris Rock took it. 5. Judd Nelson being in this movie still confuses me 😭.

Nino was cold-blooded especially when he used the little girl as a shield when they were been shot at and when he had the landlord walking butt naked outside of the building.

Wesley Snipes had one hell of a year in 1991,he did this movie and Jungle Fever,the versatility of Wesley. I hope to God that this movie never gets remake because this movie is a classic. If this movie was an all white movie Chris Rock would had been nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Pookie.
