This fan theory involves the 1991 film, "New Jack City." We set out to show tons of evidence in the film that proves the fan theory that Nino Brown was set up to be hit from the beginning of the movie. Let us explain all the clues in the movie that add up to the very plausible alternate theory that Scotty and the other cops set up Nino Brown, not to go to jail, but to meet his end, in the movie New Jack City. If you love fan theories, you'll love this one!

In the Nino confessing scene, I think he was trying to intimidate Scotty. He wanted Scotty to know who he was. That if he could/would kill just a random person, he could/would kill anyone he wanted to.

I always saw Old Man as the Angel of Death. He'd been watching events unfold for years (the entirety of the movie) because he was ALWAYS where the situations that major events would take place. Going to the cops for Nino to be arrested was kind of like trying to give Nino chances at redemption (i.e. OG Killer Bobby Johnson finding redemption in prison. Or the Angel of Death in the Krazy K segment in Tales From The Hood. A lot of folks make change in prison or on their death bed). When he confronts Nino in front of Reverand Oates, he's doing the same thing. Of course we saw what happened to the "good" reverand, as he didn't leave. Notice how when the old man was ranting against Nino, it was REALLY getting to Scotty. Like REALLY getting to him. So Scotty goes off, and he's about to put a bullet in Nino and Nick stopped him. So, Death took matters in his own hands. Just my thought. I love your videos!

I Have To Agree With Bill Cobbs ( The Old Man ) being A Sort of Angel of Death! He Served Honorably in The Military, The Bible References He made to Nino & The Preacher ( RIP Nick Ashford 🙏)! Then When The Justice System Failed to give Nino Brown a Longer Sentence, So He Will No Longer be a threat, The Old Man takes it upon himself to Send Nino Brown to The Shadow Realm regardless of The Consequences to himself! Whacking Nino Was a Means to an end! And Nino Never saw it coming! Greetings From British 🇨🇦 Columbia!

There's one foreshadowing in two scenes, the first scene is when they're at nino's warehouse and ice t acts as the hired muscle, when the old man walks in and tries to shoot Nino, Ice T stops him. Fast forward to the end of the scene when they got done interviewing nino in the lobby, Ice T and the old man are in the exact same position as before, only this time, Ice T doesn't stop him, and mario van pebbles comes behind to grab the old man after the situation occurred.

Idolator Growing up watching this movie I always felt like Scotty set Nino up to get shot not only (as you all have pointed out) him putting on his glasses and walking out like a badass. But also Scotty doesn’t even look remotely shocked when the old man shoots Nino. That little look back he did as they were walking up the steps to me looked like that “checking to see if anyone’s looking before me and my homie about to do some bullshit” face folks typically make before they rob a house or are about to hit a lick. I guess a better way to put it is he gave the “I’m the accomplice” look right before Nino got shot. Now what I didn’t realize growing up was how self-centered Scotty was. I do agree that Scotty and Nino are pretty much to halves of the same coin. Had Nino been in Scotty’s position he would have probably done the same thing and had Scotty been in Nino’s position he would have acted just like Nino. Here’s two things that strengthens this claim: 1. Both of them entered the lives they chose because of their mother. Nino did say that the only reason they joined is because they threatened to kill his mother and Scotty because his mother was murdered. 2. In addition to this both Nino and Scotty are the very reasons why im their “friend” is dead. Scotty putting Pookie in a position that got him killed and Nino literally killing G-Money. So with this being said I feel that New Jack City may have a message similar to The Wire. Although drug world and the police state think of each other in a binary they’re actually in many ways quite similar. They both will do anything to get what they want even if that means screwing innocent people. Now this could be me reaching. However, I think this point of the police and the drug dealers aren’t so different is even made with who they casted to play the characters of Scotty and Nino. It’s no secret that Blackness is generally associated with evil. If you’ve ever seen Lord of The Rings: The Two Towers when Gandalf is charging the bad guys who are all “black” creatures he’s in all white from head to toe. And in Harry Potter the Half Blood Prince in the scene where Dumbledore is killed. He is wearing all white from head to toe and all the bad guys are dressed in black from head to toe. I say this to say that I think New Jack City uses this trope by casting a light skin police officer and a dark skin drug lord. Now we know that light skin in a racist and colorist society is usually attributable to more favorable traits like being intelligent, beautiful, nice etc. In New Jack City most of the police force are either white or lighter skin and most of the drug dealers are black and dark skin. Even the women who assist the men on supposed “opposing” sides reflect this. Selena is light and Keisha is dark skin. To me this was supposed to represent the whole good vs evil trope. Now on paper we would typically say this is colorist. However, I feel that New Jack City used this as a way to dismantle the idea that police and drug dealers are polar opposites or that police are totally good and drug dealers are totally evil. One paper we would think the police are good and CMB are evil. However, the film seems to say it’s not that simple. As although the police say they want to do the right thing and get drugs out of the community they ultimately got people killed and put many innocent lives in danger. Although Nino brown is killed for being an “idolater” that’s essentially what Scotty becomes in the end. Although the drug lords are ruining the community with drugs they are very seen as being charitable via the turkey giveaways and the giving children money. Although Selena helps take Nino down she was ultimately the one who helped him build the drug empire in the first place (as the film tells us). Although Keisha kills people without a second thought she does seem to enjoy giving back to the community. Both of them simultaneously helped and hurt the community. To me this could ultimately mean that there’s some good in drug dealers and bad in the police or the police state isn’t so different from the criminal underworld. However, what do yall think? Am I tripping or do I have a point?

I think Scotty was definitely in on it. How would that old man have gotten into a courthouse with a weapon? I know they had to have had metal detectors back then so there is no way he could have gotten in the courthouse with that gun unless someone helped him get through.

Tony seemed to be a bit richer but hard to say. Tony was a bit more erratic though. Though Nino would have no problem with killing children and civilians, so Nino had less of a code. They seemed to not have too much of a problem handling the Italians but a Bolivian Crimelord would give them a ton more trouble. I'm thinking Tony though as they seemed to had more experience with wars and shootouts with other gangs, where most of Nino's wars was usually CMB being the main aggressors to smaller people with the exception of the Italians and the police. I would think a clear headed Tony would take CMB but a coked up Tony probably would get CMB'd.

I thought the same thing, with Pookie being around all those drugs, it was only a matter of time before he relapsed. Sending Pookie undercover into CMB headquarters was a major tactical error by Scotty, even Stone and his partner Nick Peretti were firmly against it.

He didnt guilt trip Pookie, Pookie asked to be put in that position. Remember when he got out of rehab Scottie said "youre just out and you already want a job" The scene at the beach is where the detective said he wasnt big on having Pookie do it, and Pookie said dont worry I'll be ready and thats when Scottie told him you better be ready you owe it to alot of people.

Idolator! This is my first time coming across your channel. I was in the 11th grade when this movie dropped. Beautiful breakdown a couple of other things. I wanna add if its okay. 1) When Nino poured champagne over Kareems cousin and said cancel this 🤬. I believe it was at this point. Scotty had another layer to his plan and put her in witness protection. 2) The old man said per his conviction with the police officer. He said briefly he did a tour in Vietnam. So him catching a body and concealing a gun. Into a place is just another Tuesday for him. 3) The little overlooked domino that contribute to the CMB empire falling. When Scotty and Nino were in the pool and he told. Nino G-Money cut a side deal with him. It was after that Nino started moving recklessly.

Maybe Scotty could've given the old man the gun because in most courthouses has metal detectors and you can get try to get in unless the metal detector goes off. By Scotty being a cop and showing his badge it's okay and had an extra gun and gave it to the old man. I can be wrong but that's how I see it.

I don't think this theory holds up too well. Firstly, we know that Scotty is willing to go right up to that line, but he doesn't step over it. He can't. He's principled, but he's willing to bend here and there for his opportunity. The ending is more about divine justice, as those parallels constructed by the Old Man (Bill Cobb), bring a warning throughout the film for Nino to give that life he's living and that, in all that Nino has done, he has made himself a god among me. By supplying their drugs and enslaving their bodies. However, Scotty's reaction to the shooting shows surprise, and Nick's smile realizing that this was a way better outcome, and that Nino escaped earthly justice, but not divine justice. When the Old Man repeats and expands on Luke 12:20, Scotty has no idea what to make of it, but quickly accepts the Nino's death and the fact he didn't have to sully his hands to get his vengeance on Nino, who iced his mother, killed his younger brother and is response for countless deaths and ruined lives.
@AxiomAmnesia
@AxiomAmnesia 3 месяца назад
The thing to remember is that this theory is an alternate explanation of what we saw. It doesn't negate the common interpretation of the film. Everything you mentioned in your rebuttal as to why this theory doesn't hold up (in your opinion) is part of the common interpretation of the film that we all agree upon. This is a fan theory, and that's something different. 😊

Looking back on it, would it really have been wise of them to do that to Nino? Yes he deserved it, but what about the connections he was willing to give up? I feel now that his assassination is the equivalent to taking out a random dope dealer. Do you think Akbar was enough?
@AxiomAmnesia
@AxiomAmnesia Год назад
Well, in this theory, and in the traditional interpretation Akbar wasn't actually the kingpin that Nino scapegoated him to be. I don't think that anything Nino would give up in court would be truthful. Based on Nino's personality, Nino would have done what was in his sole best interest, and that has nothing to do with the truth. Consequently, I don't know how reliable any info they got from him would be. Let me know if I misunderstood your question, because I wasn't completely sure. Thanks again for watching! :-)
@KhadijahJoySams93
@KhadijahJoySams93 Год назад
@@AxiomAmnesiaThank you for your response. It makes sense. Just as an adult, it's frustrating because I felt someone could just take his place. But since you reminded me of his selfishness, I think the ending is suitable. I bet Akbar was like Oh ****. But he has cowardly feels.
@AxiomAmnesia
@AxiomAmnesia Год назад
Khadijah, I completely agree about someone just taking his place in the future. In one of the earlier videos we did on New Jack City (see the two linked below), we discussed how Nino is not the root cause of the socioeconomic issues in that community. This is why it is so shortsighted to focus on Nino. BUT, there is a reason why the system chases low-level people and the folks at the top are rarely pursued or prosecuted. If they went after the root cause, things might actually change.
