Nintendo 2DS Review 

Reasons why I'd like this: 1. Hella cheap 2. I can play my old 2007 games 3. Hella cheap

So your brother bought a 3DS at launch and played it twice... money well spent.

These are $50 used at Gamestop now,Im thinking about buying one just to play Pokemon.

The reasons why i bought a 2DS... 1. I hate 3D... like seriously 2. i don't really like the foldable stuff 3. It's cheap... 4.It's badass

I don't understand the hate. I personally love the design, and it feels A LOT more comfortable than any DS which cramp my hands. Portability? I made do with the Vita's size, this is fine to me.

These are 80 bucks now, totally buying one.

I know I'm not the only one getting this just because it's insanely cheap and playing it just for pokemon.

I got a 2DS because i wanted to play the 3DS games and i found a quite cheap used 2DS.

At 0.35 you said "2011 this is a 2DS" when IT'S A 3DS AND IT EVEN SAYS IT ON IT

Two tips for extending batter life on the 3DS Family of systems. 1. Turn off wireless communications when you’re playing single player games(in other words, when you don’t need the internet, turn off wireless communications) 2. Turn the brightness down a little bit. Playing with the brightness all the way up hurts your eyes and eats your battery away.

The 2DS is hella tough too! Dropped mine screen first on the edge of a concrete curb (Ikr butterfingers) and apart from a mar on the housing, has worked just fine ever since. The impact jarred the memory card loose but re-seating it took care of the problem. Great system!

Thank you for mentioning the comfortness of the 2ds. That REALLY was the only point I was worried about. Now I can go buy one without having to worry about that point.

Got my 2DS for Christmas, gotta say I love it. Played both Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Y on it, both look and play great. The 2DS is really comfortable to hold as well. All in all brilliant for the price. Basically, if you're like me and you wanted to play the newer DS games but didn't want to spend loads on a 3DS, the 2DS is perfect.

My 3DS stopped working assumably because of the clamshell design over time makes the cable that connects the 2 screens brake off so now mine is broken after only 4 years of not very heavy use so considering to buy 2DS instead

Now I know for sure that I'm going to get the 2ds for Christmas and be happy for the time that I play it. Thanks a lot for the review... Keep it up!

You young kids are spoiled. The 2DS is a great system. For those of us who owned an original gameboy in it's heyday, the design of the 2DS is definitely a throwback to that era. I wanted one the moment I saw it. Never had that feeling with the DS or the 3DS.

Quite francly I prefer the flip screen I mean I have used my DS lite 24/7 since I was 6 and now I'm 14 and the flip screen has not become floppy

I just got one of these the other day. I LOVE IT. It feels very nice on the hands and looks wonderful. The cheap price makes this thing a must buy.

The 2DS, in my opinion, is NOT a bad product! I get it, some of you will say "Oh, it doesn't close, and that makes me angry" or "Why don't you whiny babies just turn off the 3D mode?" Well, just because YOU can't find benefit and happiness in it doesn't mean that nobody can. People who earn a small amount of money could see the 2DS as a good investment! Sure, you could turn off the 3D if you'd never use it, but that would be a waste of nearly $40! And the fact that it doesn't close doesn't mean you can't take it anywhere. Just put it in your backpack, or your car, or your briefcase, it doesn't matter! A huge moral to the 2DS's concept is that many people were complaining about issues with the 3DS, so Nintendo made a system that tended to those needs, AND YET YOU'RE COMPLAINING ABOUT IT!

I bought it. I love it. I just wish that I could BUY ALL THE CLASSIC GAMES ON THE VIRTUAL CONSOLE AT THE ESHOP. Nintendo, why do you hate making money? WHY!?

When you showed the 3Ds it brought back memories (I still have it)

After my girlfriend got me a 3ds xl, my little sister decided she wanted one. She ended up choosing the 2ds (even though I said I'd help our parents pay the difference if she wanted a 3ds or an xl). She just loves it. It's actually extremely comfortable for platformers and for games like Mario Kart 7. We also got it brand new for 100 during a sale. So for anyone who doesn't see the point in getting one, it's for a specific audience who actually want it and it saves you a bit of money.

The 3D complaints are bullshit. There are parental controls for a reason!

I enjoyed the crap out of my OG ds until my hinges broke but honestly I hated the design, anything that folds always feels crappy to me, every laptop I've ever owned gets loose hinges and eventually wears out. And I feel weird paying $150+ for a handheld that folds shut because I know that craps gonna wear out right away. 2ds has the best design of all the ds's honestly.

The 3DS has a great online system, first off there is the spotpass feature, which will notify you of any special items/events or new content with certain games. The Friend Codes are still there but thankfully are less hassle and easier to use, With the Wii and DS you had to enter a friend code for each game, with the 3DS you only need one friend code for the system and it covers all your games, also if you meet someone locally you can get on each others friends list without exchange FC numbers

About the clamshell problem, I agree with you. I have had my DS Lite since 2008 and about a year or two ago it wore out. It was annoying but now I have a DSI and a 3DS and I'm looking at getting a 2DS soon.

If I didn't already own a 3DS I'd probably get a 2DS. From what I've heard it's a pretty good system and it does improve on some issues that the original 3DS and 3DS XL had previously. (Minus the 3D feature.) Plus, it's 40$ cheaper, so I'd say that's a bonus as well. Honestly, I love handheld systems in General. I still have my Nintendo DSi, Gameboy Advance SP, Game Boy Colour and Game Boy and I use them regularly. I'm considering getting a PSP or PSV. Any advice?

The 1st DS (silver one) I own hasn't broken on me. I got it like 4 months after release. I was about 8 years old, the thing still works perfectly.

They should make another Game Boy. Maybe one large screen and a square rounded body that would be the size of a 3DS or 2DS except no wedge shape. 2 joysticks, and a d-pad and the rest of the buttons. Put a cartridge slot in it to make it compatible with all the previous game boy games, but make new games for it as well. Put a browser and the ability to download apps like netflix and youtube and a game store. Maybe an SD card slot, headphone jack. Make it wi fi enabled. Put a decent camera and front facing speakers. Micro usb port, and touchscreen. Make it available in a range of colors and a retail price of 199.99. This would attract young kids, teens and adults who want a bit of their childhood back. Collectors of nintendo games would jump on this so quick. Make it have some really good third party support and of course first party support and this would sell so fast especially if they announced it like one or 2 months before christmas and shipped it with a few games. I think nintendo would be back on their feet if they did this.

Thqnk you for this review, I have never had a 3ds, and when I saw the 2ds I didn't know what to think of it so I watched this and other reviews, and it helped me a lot, I didn't care for 3d and on my old ds the clam shell did get floppy. So I do hope for more reviews in the future

I want one of these, because I've still got a DS lite, in damn good condition too! The hinge on mine is still working fine, no cracks, but a small deep scratch on the battery cover. The thing is, it's a DS lite. I'd like to play MK7 and get into the new Pokémon games (not played ANY, EVER) but I can't with my lite. What I will say though, the DS lite is still a great console. I don't give two monkeys about no GBA port as I own a GBASP, but it's got a dead pixel now (found out today). So yea. I'm gonna get one of these for christmas instead of a SSD for my computer.

I strongly agree with everything he was saying. And honestly cause of this review I actually ended up buying a 2DS even though I already own a 3DS and 3DS XL with the Pokemon X and Y them. Another reason why I bought it was because it was a model design. Basically I collect em as a gamer fan. Oddly ever since I bought it I've been spending more time with my 2DS than my 3DS and I did buy that same exact taco shell case for it as well. and I may of complained that it doesn't fit in my pant pocket but at least I was able to slip it into my backpack or sweater pocket during work and I do put it to sleep so that I can earn play coins. And he's got a point there. If it bothers you about the portability, get yourself the 3DS :P lol I love this guy he's funny.

Also, I left a DS cartridge on a pocket in my jeans. A friend of mine washed it on the washing machine (I lost all hope on it) and it worked as if nothing. To my surprise of course. On this same topic, having had a Gameboy for years without even a case the screen was neat. Yes, there were several scratches but nothing that bad or that got in the game of the gameplay.

I prefer my 3DS XL and it has a stronger, "Clam shell." Why have 3D if you aren't going to use it? Because it's there in case you do want to use it. Because adults like options. Children on the other hand for the most part, don't. I won't waste my money on this.

Awesome review Rich! I have a 3DS but unfortunately it was plopped in the bathtub awhile ago so the sound no longer works. My favorite 3DS game is Kid Icarus Uprising and while the 3D is nice to look at, I feel I could play it better on the 2DS with the gyroscope and whatnot. I may just go pick one up!

Bought the 2ds on launch, yes its funky looking but its has that weird "wedge" for a reason. Since it doesn't have a clamshell to lift the screen the wedge gives it a but of an angle to play. Honestly it is very comfy! Once you use the 2ds R & L button, the 3ds ones seem almost too small especially when you have a game that is very reliant on the RL button. The argument of the being exposed is a lot of bull. We grew up with gameboys and most of ours still work! As for pocket-ability, it doesn't bug me because i just pop it in its case and throw that in a purse. My biggest gripe would with it would just be that the US didn't get the red/white version. Best time to pick one up would be black friday, theyre going on sale 99.99

It's much more comfortable than my DSi. I also like how the buttons are quiet and don't make that clicking noise.
