In this video I replace the top LCD screen in a Nintendo 2DS XL Console. This is a tricky repair due to the console being glued together. Replacement parts are available online if you damage the shell while making the repair. If it's your first time making the repair I would advise getting a replacement screen and screen lens as there is a good chance the lens could be damaged.

To anyone following this guide PLEASE DONT USE METAL TO PRY UP THE BATTERY the battery is lithium ion and could be very easily damaged by a metal pry tool and that can be dangerous

For a 15 yr old this video made things so much easier and it works now thanks! Only problem is clamping the console back together the hinge in the back won’t tightly close all the way and the battery port isn’t aligned with the shell

It's hard to know without seeing the console but are you sure you installed the hinges correctly when putting the console back together. They are meant to be orientated a certain way.

How do I go about this when the New 2DS XL has a katsukeity capture card in it?

I never installed one so I'm not sure but my understanding was they are soldered to the main board in the bottom half of the console. Changing the top screen would be the same as the video but you would have some extra connecters in the bottom half to undo.

@@ThisIsCSDX This is a tricky repair and I know the consoles with the capture cards aren't cheap. It might be best to pay someone to do it if you're not confident.

Mind you, the capture card feed shows up fine on my PC, but at the same time there are some games that'll require looking at both screens quickly and it's very disorienting trying to look at the screen on my PC and then the touch screen that's further from it than the top screen is. If you search for 2DS XL hinge you should find it. Sometimes adding barrel hinge or shaft hinge helps. I haven't used this place but its an example of what you need. You also see them on eBay, Aliexpress etc kasynparts.com/product/nintendo-new-2ds-xl-shaft-hinge-axle-ring-replacement/

It's not something I have done on one of these but have done it to a few DS Lites. It's fixable if the boards not damaged but what a pain in the ass.

Hey! I'm looking to get my 2ds repaired as it has this same problem! If i order a screen, would you be able to try and repair it for me? I will pay of course. I'm in Ireland too so thats handy enough. Just cant find anywhere that will fix them anymore... and the fix looks quite daunting...

Hi, no sorry I wouldn't be to do the repair for you. I think you will struggle to find someone to do it as you can see from the video it's quite a long repair and the potential to damage the console screen surround is quite high as it's glued together. If I was you I would give it a go myself, although it looks daunting, as long as you go slow and follow the steps you should be ok. I would just buy a replacement screen lens ( I have linked an Amazon one in the description) along with the screen. The repair is much easier if you are not trying to save the old lens.
