I love this Nintendo Life, I knew from the get go that this would work woth anything like the NES and SNES controllers. You guys never dissapoint me and this video is amazing.....just waiting for mine to come, I bought it in the restock so waiting for it to show up next week
Yeah can't wait to try it out myself:) ive only tried an n64 controller a couple of times so am super excited to play some of my favourite games with n64 control at last!
DOOM (Classic) is impossible: The ZR button is the trigger/shoot, so it may be awkward to fire your weapons. You cannot change the controls, so yeah it's not worth using.
Gamecube controller is popular for Smash because Melee was successful and was the newest game for 7 years, then the Wii had Gamecube ports so almost all the competitive players used it in Brawl. So by Smash 4 people had been using Gamecube controllers in Smash for 13 years.the
Considering that Final Fantasy VII was actually going to be on the Nintendo 64 at first. Switch to Playstation because cartridges were just way too expensive compared to CDs. Imagine how many cartridges would be needed to play FFVII on an N64
I actually opted to get the retro bit tribute 64 third party controller on Amazon. Not only is it cheaper but it seems to have a better feature set and better thumb stick than what Nintendo is actually offering. I suggest people at least look it up. As an added bonus it comes in atomic 💜!!!
i dont see a point in getting it cause i mean the pro switch controller is jsut x1000 better then the n64 controller ever was unless u are just fighting to get one for nostalgia....
not to mention the horror of experiencing the N64 controller stick drift, thank god this multi-million company kept the one giant flaw this controller had :)
@@ParodyPictures they had 26+ years to fix it and release the new one with an actual good joystick and we still have to fix it ourselves? again, a MULTI-MILLION dollar company? for a $50+ controller??????
@@pixussb7524 the N64 stick didn't have drift issues, at least it wasn't very common. The main issue was the durability. Let's hope the plastic parts are of higher quality this time at least. Looks like it comes with grease applied which is a good thing.
@@sageoffire3964 you don't know how 100 percent works if you're suggesting to skip the paraglider, huh? And the paraglider is where most of the speed tricks come into play...What? Lol
I've been using my childhood N64 controller to play BotW and TPHD just fine. BotW took some figuring out, but I got it working. TPHD is pretty much perfect and maps perfectly to OoT's control scheme.
@@billycheesesteak3877 there are a few options for adapters to get an original N64 controller working on Switch. I even got it to work on PS4. Fall Guys feels weirdly natural with it lol
Aw, guess I can't dig out my transfer pak and import my Mario Tennis GBC character into the N64 game. Not that I expected to but that would have been cool.
Feels like a missed opportunity, imagine if they could sell rumble packs and memory cards alongside the controller. It will be free money for them I know I would buy one. Something nostalgic about slotting in those rumble packs.
Technically the rumble pack's already 'included' with the controller since it has rumble built in! So although one can't be plugged in, you can at least still have the functionality.
Glad to know you can remap from within smash ultimate. I grew up with smash 64 I never had a GameCube so every other version I’ve always tried to map the controls to match the n64 controller. This will be perfect.
I found that 'Celeste' is a game that works very well with the N64 controller. As it's a game with fully rebindable inputs. Because you can rebind the inputs on the right stick, and overlap inputs. You can rebind the C-buttons in that game to make Madeline dash in a specific direction.
I guess his point was that how crazy it is to be playing FF7 with a N64 controller when back then the game was originally going to be released on the N64
Has anybody played this with Monkey Ball? I have heard some of the control issues in that game are due to modern controllers having a circular deadzone instead of rectangular ones old controllers had
Had my two controllers arrive today and been using one of them for Ocarina tonight, feels a lot better with it than Joy-cons unsurprisingly. But thanks to no AA batteries for the Rumble Pak, a lot lot lighter than the original!
@@Awnos not at all. It’s a lot of noise over very little. The same happened with Skyward Sword HD, and Amiibos, and now this. It’s the online minority being loud again basically. 95% of gamers will just pick it up and enjoy it.
@@ben-tendo That's what I thought was happening, I got my N64 controller today but I can't get the expansion pack for a few weeks, can't wait to use this controller.
This controller is actually the best for mpss, there are just a few minigames you can"t do but most minigames are the best with that controller even the gamecube ones!
I thought about getting it since N64 games just don't feel right with the switch joycons or pro controller, but 50 bucks is kinda steep haha. I'll probably get it next month though, it looks pretty good !
So it might be manageable, if they add the ability to remap buttons (or the individual game lets you). I’d like to play it with other games, but it seems the lack of 2 face buttons makes it compatible with fewer games than the SNES controller with 4 face buttons but missing a 2nd stick. Plus the layout makes it awkward to access the L button and D-pad (no idea why they didn’t add ZL as well if they added ZR).
They didn't need to make a genesis controller if N64 was re-mappable, as the A, B, and C Buttons make up all 6 face buttons (just as they were intended). Nintendo is trying to milk as much money as they think possible from their new service and it's disgusting
