i felt the same way when i realized these were actual video game tracks and not some retro style DnB lmao. Hydra prime is my JAM i cant believe this is what i was drowned in as a kid lmao
Yup snes was what made me love jungle and dnb! Totally said exactly what I was going to say. I miss the days when games had unique music and it wasn't just using real artists...was it crazy taxi and the offspring which was the first game to start off that trend?
Had no idea there was this much DnB in older video games, however it makes sense because it was in fact, quite popular at the time! Hope it makes a comeback, at least it has online...
was born in 1998 and for a long time i only had a n64 for gaming so i heard these tracks over and over again. i thinks thats why i love dnb so much today.
Hope this helps someone out in the future :) The odd, smooth dnb parts of this that end up being so hard to track down are Intelligent Drum and Bass. Some of the most notable artists of that are Peshay, LTJ Bukem, Mouly, Artemis, Shogun, Doc Scott, Goldie, and DJ Bailey, just to name a few. Love the sound, love the video man thank you for doing this! you have a new subscribe from me!
@@xleepy4006 yep! But if you are specifically in the market for the vintage, pre 2005 sort of stuff, intelligent is the thing to search. Atmospheric is for sure the modern equivalent though, or at least as close as you can get :)
Yes, the alternate universe is called the afterlife and I say this as someone who is very fond of psychedelics. Don't mix drugs and dangerous activities.
This is the music that they would be blaring out at my local game store in 1998 in London. Back when you had cool game shops with staff that were not trying to sell you accessories, merch and memberships. The shop was dark with industrial steel flooring and every game was inside an acrylic secuirity box. I would spend hours deciding on just one game for the next few months. They even had a basement for the "Retro" stuff which was basically full of the 8 and 16 bit games, whereas upstairs was for the PS1 N64 Saturn and Gameboy. It is where i got my copy of Pokemon Yellow near release, if only i kept the box!
Yes what Peero N says. The Super Potato chain of retro gaming stores in Japan. Spent hours there looking at box art. Though they didn't have the DnB blaring, would've been icing on the cake.
this is pure dj work, combined with an incredible yet almost instinct-like ability for compatible sounds and moods, i'm really happy that such a wild mix was made with something as incredibly underrated as video game musics ! people tend to forget that all music has the same worth and i'm running out of ways to say thank you for this lol, i hope you make more !!
the entire "the new tetris" ost is so good. excellent mix. considering these are for video game soundtracks, they're very melodic compared to 'normal' releases of the genres at this time which i think is interesting.
It was fun to make progress through The New Tetris, because every time you unlocked the next stage you got a cool 3D cutscene, a nice atmospheric background, and most importantly a great piece of music along with it.
OMG as as junglist of 30 odd years who today leans toward the mellow/intelligent side, I gotta say these tracks are absolutely sick. Reminds me of the Artcore series of compilations.... SO GOOD !! JAH BLESS !!
That Sakai stage theme is an absolute bop... So many of the tunes in here are! Maximum respect for the mix, despite being a n64 kid, most of these tunes are unfortunately in games I never had so a lot of new stuff to me!!
Really like how you did more with this than merely having a sequence of songs with brief silence in between, haven't seen a mix like this in awhile. Really flows together seamlessly in a way I forgot that I appreciate. I did notice some transitions had some sort of crackling / popping sound but maybe it was just me.
This shit was my go-to for the commute to and from college in my second semester. The duration of this playlist and the drive matched perfectly, and I got used to hearing certain songs while on particular stretches of the road.
Extreme-G 2 goes so hard. I played this so much in my car years ago when I had a system. It's funny cause people would laugh at me when I would say that I recorded CDs of video game music to listen to in my car. Then they would hear it and ask me to make a copy for them 😎. Edit 56:35 was mine and my childhood friends' favorite jam. (RIP Pubs 😢)
i cannot tell you how many times i have listened to this, genuinely one of my favourite sets out there. absolutely amazing, thank you so much for creating and sharing this
This is gods work, the presentation is gorgeous, the music selection is S tier, the games are gold, and you're opening peoples minds to the world of dnb
People often forget that jungle is made for games lol, no other music style can really fit the gaming genre if you really think about it, other than slow electronic music.
Growing up I called this "video game music" and never looked any further into it. Crazy how ignorant I was and how long it took me to discover DnB proper, among techno and others
LOVE that this opens with Deadly Arts' OST! That game was one of the worst fighters I ever had the displeasure of slogging through, but I loved it to pieces for the dope soundtrack. I remember spending hours as a kid just going into the sound test menu and vibing to the OST. kaoru's theme was probably my favorite, and i loved the whole lower key atmospheric sounds of many tracks from the game. reminds me of another clunky fighter that had some awesome choons, tekken 4.
@@fistofthenorthstar6537 Oh yeah, Tekken 4 was a definite black sheep of the series. The game felt as though you were fighting underwater, and the smooth atmospheric music didn't do much to help that sentiment. Still, that soundtrack made the experience so much more worth it to the point where I purchased it on vinyl. (And I would kill a man in front of his own mama for an official OST of Deadly Arts on vinyl. But considering it was an obscure Konami title lmaoooo yeah no, will never happen.)
I only played tekken tag tournament back in the day and wonder how good/bad it was compared to the other ones? Was it actually really bad? Because i loved it as a kid lmao but for some reason never got another tekken
Awesome! This is exactly the kind of stuff I like . One of my favorite VG soundtracks is SF3rd Strike and it’s DnB influenced tracks . I love the late 90s/early 00s capcom/Konami/ anime/Toonami vibes (that’s the best description I can give lol) .
I remember putting tetrisphere on in the background while I was cleaning my room. Some absolutely awesome tracks on that soundtrack if youve never checked out that game.
I just discovered Jungle/Intellegent DnB and realised this is my favourite genre of music. Ive been searching for a name for this genre for years now and I have finally found it. Thank gloshness!
I still listen to this regularly because it is mentally and emotionally centering for me. I listen to improve my mood or energy, to start a new project, or to get through a task. :-)

Yo. I really like this. Reminds me of the olden days of really fun bubbly dnb up at some random loft, 3am with your best mates giggling and playing and dancing. Smoking mad weed and being kids. Love this.
Damn I remember hooking up my Tape recorded to the TV and listening to the Extreme G 1 & 2 soundtracks in the Menu (IIRC?) and just recording a full tape of those songs. those were the times!
I bet he would, but there just weren't that many games made for the N64, slimmer pickings compared with something like the Playstation which had an insanely large catalog.
