This was a damn good direct in my opinion. I think the most surprising thing here was the Metroid Prime Remaster - not because it exists, but because it got shadow dropped (which I don't think anyone expected) AND is only $40. Knowing Nintendo, I thought for sure it would be $60, but I'm pleasantly surprised at the more reasonable price. I guess Metroid isn't a big enough IP for them to feel comfortable charging a premium for a remaster like with Zelda.
It's so weird when it's clearly the highest effort remaster Nintendo has ever done (at least like, with the actual remaster I suppose there's not any new game features.) But like, the graphical upgrades are significant.
As someone who’s kept up to date with the Layton situation, Layton is the only one level 5 have been actively trying to keep alive outside of Japan since it’s shutdown so I always had the idea in my head that we were getting Layton news at some point at the minimum For context they’ve been doing official layton merch, porting the music tracks to platforms, porting the games to mobile, putting mystery journey on the Apple Arcade or whatever it’s called etc Layton news wasn’t as unexpected as some would think. I’d have been more shocked if yo Kai watch showed up or any of their franchises that weren’t Layton
Everyone everywhere buy 5 copies of every Level 5 game announced here so that they can FINALLY release Yo-Kai Watch 4 in the west! In all seriousness though, I really hope those games do well so Level-5 start publishing more games in the west in general.
So...I just downloaded a ds emulator and a copy of Ghost Trick because I had plans to do an LP on the future. Then this happens. No doubt, I will be buying Ghost Trick when it comes out and I will love every second of it just like I did before...well every second except the prison... I won't spoil anything, But if you know...well. you know. Also, Pikmin 4 comes out on my birthday!! That's a heck of a gift Nintendo is giving me.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Level-5 and Professor Layton the DLC for Splatoon 3, Xenoblsde Chronicles 3, Pikmin 4 top to bottom incredible Nintendo Direct!
Pikmin 4 looks soooo good. Definitely looks like the caves from Pikmin 2 will be back in some form, which is really cool though I do hope they strike a better balance between them and the overworld than they did in that game. I have a lot of affection for 2, but those caves can turn it into a bit of slog at times. And you end up spending way less time in the beautiful, more thoughtfully designed puzzle-box overworlds, which is probably my single favorite thing about Pikmin.
I really enjoyed the chaos and dynamics of 6 people watching together at the same time, it really feels like a whole collective and makes this reaction a lot more interesting than most. I wouldn't mind at all if you guys continue with this 👍
Definitely the craziest Direct in recent times, lots of mental announcements in here. Not everything was for me, but there was loads of stuff that certainly pleased loads of people, and that's great!
This was a great direct! All the detective games look so fun, pikmin looks amazing, and wtf Metroid prime looks gorgeous? Like that is a REMASTER. What held it back for me was how little we got of Tears of the Kingdom that was actually new, and wtf is up with wave 1 of the splatoon dlc I’m so confused like is it just the location that changes and nothing else? What’s the point? Still an objectively strong showing though
Personal favourite storyline of the Direct was the trilogy of Level 5 games revealed, with the collimation of the Professor Layton announcement being *chef's kiss*
I never have any feel for what the general consensus is going to be with Nintendo Directs (I'll love one and then come to find that Twitter and reaction videos only think it was alright, and if I thought one was just okay, I'll discover that it was apparently one of the best Directs ever), but I really liked what I saw in this one. Like, I'll never be able to reasonably play or afford every game I want to from this presentation. Also, play Ghost Trick!
This Direct was incredible, one surprise after the other almost nonstop! Among all the crazy announcements the biggest one for me was Level 5 back outside of Japan with a completely new game, a new Fantasy Life and especially a new Layton! By the way, if you haven't heard it by now despite the different name and publisher Fashion Dreamer is by syn Sophia, the same developer of Style Savvy/Boutique so great news for fans of that series!
Nintendo missed a opportunity with the Inkopolis DLC, of giving us single player challenges that happen on Splatoon 1 story mode levels. Like, port/redo those maps to Splatoon 3, and make some challenges with them. Since they didn't mention it on the direct, I think Wave 1 is just the plaza.
When it comes to Etrian Turn-based Dungeon Crawlers (and Persona Q), a style going all the way back to Dungeon Master, Might and Magic, and Wizardry, but definitely way more refined and such. One of the cool things is that they have a self-mapping system where you make the map as you go along, which actually gives you rewards for completing the map that way. I would imagine, they'd give you an automapping option, this time, but will likely be at the cost of forgoing those rewards. Etrian has basically been, as far as the West is concerned, the modern equivalent of Holding the torch for a genre that otherwise would probably nearly die off, otherwise.
It's funny to me that so many people confuse Matt Mercer and Travis Willingham, to me they sound nothing alike. But that's probably because I hear both their voices every Thursday
I’ve been hoping they’d do a remake of the Oracle games and finish up the 3rd scrapped oracle game to round out the theme of all 3 goddesses. I guess that can still happen. That’s certainly a way to get people to play them again if they add the 3rd one
I can see the meme now, When you see that corpse of, what we think is Ganondorf, turn and the eyes light up, they'll put text on it saying, "Level 5" and some caption. "I'm Back!!" But Speaking of Zelda, I think we did get a hint on at least one of the new mechanics never done in an Open World game before, plus having an insane amount of vertical open world usage, which also isn't done in other open World games. It will be fun to see the insane tricks they used to show almost infinite-looking draw distance to unprecedented details (at least for the system) to the lands below as you travel through the higher sky areas. The development costs for TOTK are probably extremely high.
Nice to see people actually excited about RPGs. Watched two reactions where one person complained about RPGs and then the other was looking down whenever RPGs showed up.
Them shadow dropping Metroid Prime Remaster this early in the year makes me think Prime 4 will be their big holiday game. Maybe not but I think it’s very possible.
This was the biggest best Direct ever imo. Nothing with a release date past July makes me think we’re getting Nintendos next system at the end of this year or start of next year.
The eShop voucher games have always been accurated list. It's basically any full price Nintendo published game plus a few that they distribute like dragon Quest for example.
As for the Nintendo Switch Online, you mentioned the DS from the Wii U eshop as a possibility for the future but there was also the Sega Game Gear from the 3DS eshop. Since we already have the Sega Genesis on the NSO expansion I think it would make sense to have the Game Gear on the standard NSO with the Gameboy.
Always fun to watch a Nintendo Direct with you guys ! Pretty happy with this direct. Never played a Pikmin, Pikmin 4 looks pretty good, lots of remasters to look forward to : Ghost trick, Etrian O, Baiten K and METROID PRIME (never finished it on the cube) !
Baten Kaitos is one of my all-time favourite game series and I'm so glad they brought them back. They are so unique and unlike any other game I've played, I definitely recommend them (plus they are two full games bundled together).
@@KreshWC yeah I did play (and finished, over 80hrs), Baiten K 1 and really liked it (even tho card based combat aint my thing) however I have never played the second one ! Would love to. Maybe if it gets succes, they will make a third one ? 🤔🤔
@@xaintegaming If you liked the first then you will enjoy the second, it improves on the battle mechanics a lot more but I assume in the remaster they will both be great. I hope they do good and we finally get a new entry in the franchise. Maybe now that Monolithsoft is more well known thanks to the Xenoblade series more people will try out Baten Kaitos and we can finally get a third game.
As much as I wanted the new Namco remaster to be Kid Icarus Uprising, if it was the Baten Kaitos Remasters than I'm fine with that because the Baten Kaitos series is one of my all-time favourites. I know a lot of peaple are thrown off by the card battle system when they first see it and honestly so was I at first but the battles are in real-time and quick-paced and oh so satisfying to string together attack combos between all your party members that it quickly won me over. The story and especially the music are both magnificent, the only complaints I hear are the voice acting which we will see if they fix. I'm so glad these games came back because I always thought they were done and forgotten and hopefully more people give them a try this time around especially with both games bundled together.
The cacophony of five people talking all at once was unbearable. I say five because John's volume was so low he was not part of the din. Sorry guys, I had to switch to the Nintendo channel.
That’s what you get when you watch a reaction. I usually watch the GVGang before the show, then mute them and watch the Nintendo stream, then come back post-show.
A 10 would be much more first party stuff, not all these very Japanese-y dialogue-heavy games. The variety to whats coming on the Switch could be way better. There's 0 Mario titles. Stuff like Samba De Amigo is the type of the very few people actually care about too.
"What is a 10/10 if this is a 7/10?" More variation in genres. Less of a focus on Japanese games in favour of western third party games. More new original games and less remasters/remakes of old games. Less of a focus of expansion passes and DLC. More first party games we don't already know about. For me these directs are way too JRPG focused.
Switch is the home of JRPGs, that's just the nature of things. Japanese devs prefer to develop for Swit h, and it shows. If you want more western 3rd party games, you have playstation or xbox for that.
@@Cobaltios Well if you want these exact games I guess it's a 10/10. But I think a better balance between different genres and audiences would be more beneficial in the long run. They seem to paint themselves into a corner by focusing so heavily on Japanese developers. What is stagnant gaming genres on other platforms would feel refreshing on the Switch simply because they don't have much western style games targeted at a mature audience.
really sad that people keep trashing TOTK graphics and calling it worse than ps3 era especially with that $70 price. no wonder Nintendo ip lose to ps nowadays
@@RexZShadow lmfao tlou alone have obliterated every Nintendo ip right now bruh. Even gamers don't know who Mario is but they all know joel. It's the sad fact
