Nintendo Direct 2.8.23 | Stephen & Mal React! 

I love that Stephen mentioned the last direct having a bunch of farming games but this direct had over half a dozen detective type games!

Europeans like "oh no! We have to wait until December!"

For people who didn't see, the thumbnail for the trailer of Pikmin 4 on the Nintendo of America youtube channel, it showcases Purple, White, Rock, and Winged pikmin! So happy the game is featuring every pikmin up to date and of course the cute addition of Ice Pikmin!

I'm really glad Mal got into Pikmin so much after the 3DX LP.

I am so super pumped for Professor Layton! It’s crazy how I barely know anyone who likes the game but we all came out of the woodwork to collectively scream about the first Hershel Layton game in 10 years. Layton is my favorite game series and I still listen to the score all the time.

Metroid Prime brought me to literal tears. When they said "Out Today" I lost my mind and went straight to the shop. Also, we know Mario Kart 8 DLC won't be done until the end of the year....but what about adding Super Circuit to the Mario Kart LP lineup now that it's out on something other than the GBA?

When they realized dungeons are back in Pikmin 4, I could see the PTSD in Stephen's eyes.

GHOST TRICK! Super excited for that, finding a DS version is next to impossible and/or very expensive

Yo Minish Cap and a new professor Layton game, yes please. Can't wait to tell my mum as we both loves those games, she would help and "borrow" my copy of Minish cap, I still have and almost tempted to replay it.

I'm excited for caves possibly returning, since it was my favorite part of Pikmin 2. Also Ice Pikmin seem super interesting!

Layton is a huge surprise, because Level 5 (the dev) shut down their localization team. I didn't think we'd ever get another Level 5 game. The possibility makes my heart happy!

There is actually a Layton game on the Switch. It's the Katrielle Layton game that came out on 3DS. Also, who's ready for Stephen and Mal to forget that Cryonis exists again?

Pikmin 4 and the Xenoblade 3 story dlc. All the new stuff that they're introducing in Pikmin 4 look so freaking cool, the night time stuff and the new Pikmin type as an example. As for the Xenoblade 3 story it looks like it's going to be everything I wanted from it, more info about Alvis as well as what happened to the characters from 1 and 2 after their stories were done. Overall this direct was absolutely fantastic and my wallet is going to hate it for the foreseeable future

One of my most underrated gifts today from that Direct was Fantasy Life i. The 3DS game was a LOT of fun to play with friends! I never expected to see it again though.

It's great to see Stephen & Mal react to the Nintendo Direct 2023. I was checking the StephenPlays channel last night and this afternoon for this video but didn't see it appear until now. Odd but RU-vid can be odd some times. Games in this direct that I am interested in: Pikmin 4, Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime Remastered, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, GB and GBA games coming to NSO, Mario Kart 8 DLC

The thing that excited me most from the Direct wasn't shown here. It was the short teaser for Splatoon 3: Side Order. As someone who is hugely into Splatoon I am very interested to see what on earth was going on in that teaser. The second most exciting thing for me was seeing Alvis in the Xenoblade 3 story expansion. I haven't played through 3 yet but having played through the first 2 I am also very interested to see where that is going.

I'm glad to see Metroid Prime finally come to Switch. I was hoping for Metroid Prime 4 news, but maybe next time on that one. I also wasn't expecting that brief scene for Wave 4 of Xenoblade 3 DLC. That caught me by surprise.

Shoutout to the Layton fans: you did it. You made it to a new mainline title game. Everyone is talking about the ice pikmin but what about the super cute pupper thing in the Pikmin 4 trailer?? Overall this direct was pretty nice. Good job Nintendo.

I just realized something about the Pikmin series. In the first game you played with one Captain. In the second you played with two Captain's at once. In the third game you played with three Captain's at once. Now in the fourth game it seems like your playing with four Captain's once!

I am most excited for Golden Sun. Finally can play it on the Switch! (Pikmin 4 too, but come on....Golden Sun!!!!)

I am so excited for Ghost Trick! I never got the opportunity to pick it up on DS and now it’s so expensive. I think I’ll really enjoy it because Layton and AA are some of my favorite franchises.

I am so ready for another Katamari coop LP. I have no interest in playing the games myself, but the first one was already extremely entertaining.

I'm looking forward to another Katamari LP. The first one was a blast 😄 Also, I'm a bit surprised that they didn't include the trailer for the Dokapon Kingdom re-release they announced recently. Seems like an obvious thing to include in a Direct 🤷‍♂️

I'm sooo excited for Professor Layton after their English studio closed down for awhile there. Also Ghost Trick which is one of the best DS games ever. And Fashion Dreamer which is confirmed to be developed by the same team that did Style Savvy/Style Boutique (these games are so fun). Also XC3 wave 4 + Baten Kaitos. This was just a really great direct for me lol

You should play Ghost Trick when it comes out! It's a great game with not nearly enough exposure and I love watching blind Let's Plays of it. A lot of the Ace Attorney people worked on it.

Hyped about Pikmin 4, Ghost Trick, Advance Wars, and Fantasy Life. I screamed about the new Layton game. (edit: Forgot about Sea of Stars, there was so much in this direct!) Also regarding the previous Layton games: the phone one with the girl you're talking about is Layton Mystery Journey which was originally on 3DS, ported to mobile, and got a deluxe version for Switch.

11:00 Mal is mixing up Layton Bros. for mobile and Layton’s Mystery Journey starring Katrielle Layton or as Mal called her “the girl”. And yes she did get a game on Switch as well as 3DS. We’re in the second half of the Booster Course Pack. If the schedule was like last year’s half, it’ll be done in Fall of this year.

Tbh, ghost trick was the biggest surprise for me. I love that game.

As a Fire Emblem fan, I cannot fully express to people how wild most of the Emblem choices were for the Engage DLC. Also excited for Octopath 2 and some of the detective games looked cool. Happy for Advance Wars, Samba De Amigo, and Professor Layton fans.

I've never seen any of the Layton games so since you guys said Mal loves the series I would like to see you two stream them.

For me, the biggest surprises were Baten Kaitos and Fantasy Life i. But... The thing I was most excited about wasn't even announced in the direct! Marl Kingdom Chronicles has been a long time coming and I am glad it's happening! But that wasn't announced here, so... Baten Kaitos Remaster is incredible! I love these games, especially Origins! And Fantasy Life... I wanted a sequel for who knows how long! I think this year wants me to be broke... Or to lose all my time to all of them since they are all RPGs....

As a huge Fire Emblem fan, seeing the second wave of Engage DLC being added today was an amazing surprise!! Plus Veronica is one of my all-time favorite characters so seeing her revealed (although the DLC was unfortunately leaked) was just spectacular. I'm also huge on Splatoon, so I'm super curious to see what that has in store as well :) I love two of my favorite franchises getting more love

Super pleased to see a new Fantasy Life coming soon. Been super hard to fill that game hole! But I also hope the crafting minigames no longer destroy my thumbs ;)

Man, I gasped and geeked out so much during this direct.. lol Seeing Professor Layton got me good, as did Ghost Trick and the GB and GBA NSO news. I'm pretty sure I blurted out something like, "HABABLAGHBAFDSA METROID FUSION!" when I saw it would be released eventually on there. 😅😂

I hope that Bolson Construction Co. can build you a garage to house your motorcycle, your 4 wheel off road vehicle, and your hovercraft.

As a Xenoblade fan my god that like 20 second clip of the dlc story is living in my head rent free what does it mean. I'm not sure about Pikmin 4 I wonder if the caves won't have time progress like Pikmin 2 but since it looks like we'll be able to explore at night now that'll be a new interesting dynamic.

I'm growing ever more excited for Tears of the Kingdom. Twilight Princess may still be my favorite Zelda game, but BOTW is my favorite to play in terms of gameplay itself. I'm also very excited to finally replay the Minish Cap as I have quite some nostalgia towards it

Tears of the Kingdom looks sooooo good! Also hyped for Xenoblade 3 and Splatoon 3 DLC. Might be the last video games I buy for a while though. I'll be in university by September!

Some of my thoughts on the direct (Semi long comment, sorry in advance): *I’ve still never played the Pikmin games myself, though I’d like to at some point, but I’ve enjoyed the lets plays that Stephen and Mal have done on them; this I’m looking forward to when they inevitably play Pikmin 4. *I love Ghost Trick, I have the phone version and had a blast playing through it; I’m super excited that it’s coming to the Switch! *Im excited for Breath of the Wild 2: to come out, the first one was good and I’m sure the second one will be too.

Games I'm excited to play are Pikmin 4 since it has been awhile since I played. Ice Pikmin are awesome considering we already had Fire ones in Red Pikmin. Next game I wants is Tears of the Kingdom. Looking forward to it!

Loved this Direct, so many surprises one after the other throughout it (the biggest one undoubtedly being Level 5 back outside of Japan with a completely new game, a new Fantasy Life and especially a new Layton)!

A theory: we have gotten nothing abouts a new Mario game because of the Mario movie. Once the movie is out they will announce the next Mario (possibly Odyssey 2) game as the big holiday season release.

Please do a First 20 about Ghost Trick, that game is amazing!

Tears of the Kingdom is great and all, but Ghost Trick is *coming out on Steam* and I'm so hyped for that, it's such a good game.

After watching this direct, I’m now leaning towards on buying the switch online expansion

I’ve been in a Fire Emblem mood so I wanted some Fire Emblem news. Didn’t think I’d actually get but I was pleasantly surprised about the Engage DLC and the original Fire Emblem making its way to the Nintendo Switch Online.

Excited for New FE Engage DLC,when I get done with the game first. Game Boy Games coming to switch. Gonna like it when FE7 comes whatever month that happens. Ghost Trick, an amazing game. Loved that they showed Chip Trading for MegaMan Battle Network Legacy Collection.

It doesn't take much to please us Golden Sun fans so I'm more than happy to say I'm pleased. Totally unrelated but did you know the Golden Sun games had a mutiplayer mode where you basically can take your party members and fight against your friends? I have some strong childhood memories of trying to beat a cousin in that and I'm very looking forward to actually being able to play that again now that I actually have the knowledge and common sense above a 10-13 year old. So much to love from this Direct. Always happy to see Pikmin. Happy for the Advance War fans considering the events that made it unclear if it would even get to see the light of day. And as someone who's also been a fan of a series who's haydays were on the GBA and hasn't seen the light of day since the DS days, I can empathize with their pain. Amigo coming back out of nowhere was certainly a surprise. Same with Katamari and Layton. I wasn't sure if those series would ever get a chance for a comeback either. So many things to love about this Direct, probably one of my favorites in a long time. But then again, may be bias on that for reasons.

Hands down, the best part of this was the GB/GBA releases. I've been waiting for that for so long.

Stephen was right, Fashion Dreamer is a new game in the Style Savvy series, which you should know about because I sent you a copy of one of the 3DS ones! (I don't blame you if you never played it, I've seen how many games you have)

Rayman Legends is a classic but the OG Rayman 2 The Great Escape will always be the best one to me. Sad to see such an icon go but we still have access to it's legacy.

Bayonetta Origins is happening in March. I know not many people care about the series, but I do and I am so hyped.

I let out a loud happy scream when Layton appeared! I adored all of the previous Layton games but it has been so long since the last game that I thought they had left the franchise to die. Excited for more people to play Ghost Trick! Fantastic gameplay, story and music! Also looking forward to Raincode!

I also find it curious there's nothing on Mario just yet, aside from the Kart, and I have suspicions they want to keep anything they'll do separate from Tears of the Kingdom. So agreeing that we might get news in the next direct. Or they might finally give us Galaxy 2 on Switch and make y'all scream in frustration. :)

I'm most excited for Cereza and the lost demon because I love Bayonetta, but that wasn't new because there was a playable trailer already. So I guess the most exciting new thing is Matroid Prime HD

It's very cool that birdo has been added as a DLC racer on Mario Kart 8 deluxe she hasn't appeared in a Mario kart game since Mario Kart Wii back in 2008 also the new race track yoshi's island looks absolutely brilliant oh yeah by the way let's hope Nintendo does add GameCube games onto Nintendo switch online now that will be really awesome and exciting for all of us gamecube fans especially me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I literally hooked up my Wii u last week to start getting games on there before the shop closed and of course one of the games was Minish cap. Then they were like you know what here's GBC and GBA virtual console, still a bit annoyed about gba being in the expansion pass since I probably won't have enough money after getting all the games I want. I'm excited for Pikmin 4 the pupper is so cute and it's interesting to see the dungeons come back, I love seeing fantasy life come to switch I have the original but haven't played much of it so that's probably a game I'll go back too, and Splat 3 DLC is also interesting because wave 1 doesn't look like it has much to it besides bringing inkopolis back but I hope side order has some story to it. Ghost trick is a game I am interested in playing I heard great things about that game so again glad to see it get ported to Switch, and finally I'm excited to see what other tracks will be added to wave 4 in the booster course because Yoshi's island track is looking beautiful and I'm glad to see Birdo coming back and hope more new characters get added into mk8.
