This also means that dlc for certain games will become unavailable as well, the 3DS Fire Emblem games are a huge example because you can't just get them from the e-shop, you have to progress to a certain point of the game in order to start accessing it. Maybe people wouldn't feel so pressured if Nintendo weren't so frigging stubborn and just remaster those games for the Switch with all dlc included. They promote the heck out of it in Smash, and there's also Fire Emblem Warriors. How are people gonna be fully invested in these characters if Nintendo won't re release their original games? I would understand shutting down the e-shop on old systems if Nintendo would use those servers to improve the Switch's online capabilities. If that's not the reason, then it's no wonder why Iwata's rolling in his grave right now.
It’s still possible to add funds on Wii U and 3DS since both along with the switch use the same account. You’d just have to add the funds on switch first. So we do have until March of next year to add funds and buy stuff. Still doesn’t make this decision any less stupid though.
The 3DS and Wii U are discontinued now. This is hardly surprising. I knew this would happen with the Switch being the center of attention and the focus for Nintendo right now.
I think the problem is they shut it down so soon. They shut down the OG Wii's shop just a year or so ago and now they're shutting down the only e-shops aside from the one on the Switch. I think they're trying to funnel players into either spending more money on the Wii U/3DS e-shop or trying to boost the players on Switch.
I predict one day when Nintendo creates a superior console that will outsell the Switch, you can highly expect the company to shut down digital stores forever on March 20xx. Just like Mario 3D All-Stars

As much as I agree with that apparently there’s a security reason why they more or less have to do it, and I got that info from my dad who’s an IT guy.
Disagree if it's security issues do what Sony has done with the ps3 and Vita stores remove all payment options besides prepaid cards and adding money to your Playstation wallet via the website ps4 or ps5 Nintendo could easily do that
The problem isn’t they shutting down the shop. It’s the games that won’t be available due to this. The retro games being a big problem. There is no reason they shouldn’t sell their games

I just don’t understand why Nintendo is doing this. I mean it’s more money in Nintendo’s pockets by keeping it open and what’s more, that it was stated that there was no plans to even bring these games on to the Switch. Maybe if people ban together, just like they did with the ps3 store we can keep it just a bit longer. Some of these games are absolutely hard if not impossible to find in their physical form. So to the people who love games from the 20-teens, let’s try our best to preserve this valuable store era! What do you say?

This isn’t a Nintendo problem, it’s a digital game problem. Any digital only store is only going to be here for a limited time because eventually, paying for the service to keep the shop online isn’t worth it to keep it online. Physical media lasts until it degrades, digital lasts until it’s not profitable enough. If it costs 200k a month to maintain, and they’re making 150k a month, they shut it down.

@@Veelofar theres no doubt it already has, but my point is more that nintendo is doing the worst at it. i'm sure the xbox 360 store wont last forever but it can very reasonably last as long as physical media or longer if the store owner respects their customers
I have a Wii U because my parents got it for me as a birthday gift couple months before the Switch came out, and even though I definitely sorta wish I got a Switch the following year instead, I still absolutely love my Wii U even though it's very overhated, I love Yoshi's Woolly World and the news that the eShop is shutting down, honestly gives me a huge heartache. It'll be extremely sad that buying things on the eShop will no longer be possible, and I'll definitely try to mod my Wii U as soon as possible. Thank you for sharing this news.
I really want to backup my games as I don’t want bad things to happen to my games. But I’m not the biggest fan of modding my consoles. Are there any risks to doing just this backup? Like a 360 red ring of death or something like that?
Don't expect Nintendo Switch Online to last forever either. Someday they will get rid of it and all the money paid for the subscription will go to waste.
@@MarioMania07 Not every game is guarantied and you have to pay 50 dollars a year for some glitchy ports of n64 games and you don’t even keep them you will lose access once you stop paying meaning you have to keep on paying them until they decide to shut down the switch’s online service.

I just don't get it. I've always been a Nintendo fan, I grew up with the gamecube and I have every other console that came after it but in recent years it seems likely they really don't give damn about their fans.
At this point you'd be better off just pirating old games and playing them yourself, these companies refuse to fucking resell them so if they aren't gonna play fair then why should we be held to that standard?.
I would love to mod my Wii U but I don’t exactly have a computer to hook it up to for modding, heck I had my 3DS modded by a friend cause I don’t have a computer

I modded custom firmware on my 3DS XL and it’s been AWESOME and it was super easy! I did Randomizers of all my 3DS Pokémon games, I got tons of amazing custom themes and with this announcement, I’m gonna put some 3DS games I never got on there. I been nodding my Wii U for years and the potential for all the games you can get on there is incredible
Also there’s some dlc that won’t be able if u get a like a unused copy of the game like smash 4 and decide to get the dlc on the eshop but turns out u can’t get, at least PlayStation decided to keep the psstore on the PS3 despite the PS5 having a store and outselling it and being “used” by everyone who has it
I’ve defended Nintendo’s stance on emulation and modding for a long time, but this is my breaking point. If you don’t want us to pirate you games, then sell them to us. After the eshop closes, our only options for buying these games are either 1. Pray you can find the game and system for semi-decent prices on EBay 2. Try to figure out how to emulate these games, assuming you own a pc powerful enough And the worst part is that neither of those options support Nintendo or any of the original creators, all that money is just going to whoever you bought it from on EBay. Nintendo doesn’t get a cent either way, so if you want us to pay for these games, *let* us pay for them. So many games will become completely unavailable after these eshops get shutdown, possibly forever. Even games with physical copies still have their own issues. Game and Wario is going for over $200 on eBay, the absolute cheapest physical copy is $80, and that’s without a disk. It has no reason to go for that much, and luckily right now we can get it digitally for only $30, but eventually that won’t be an option. Physical game prices are only going to get worse after Nintendo takes away the only other cheap alternative. I understand this had to happen eventually, these stores can’t stay open forever, but Nintendo saying they have “no plans” to preserve *any* of this content, as well as their treatment of legacy content, is what really pushed me over the edge. The switch does have some of these games, but only the NES, SNES, and N64, and only through a subscription service where you’re essentially just renting these games. The 3DS and Wii U had everything the switch has and even more both from those consoles as well as every other Nintendo system up to that point except for the GameCube and Virtual Boy, some of these games even had new features or were brought over and localized for the first time ever. The only reason I could see for Nintendo to not bring these to switch would be to incentivize people to buy NSO, but even then why not have both? Why not have NSO be an option to rent a selection of all of these games but also offer the Virtual Console alongside it (similarly to how the expansion pass allows you to “rent” the Mario kart 8 and Animal Crossing DLC)
I completely agree with that, I wish there was a virtual console to buy the games you want separately while still having NSO to have access to all of the retro games that are also available on virtual console.
Honestly, Nintendo are being idiots right now for doing this for 3 reasons. 1. The 3DS & WiiU have a lot of games that are exclusive to those 2 consoles so we can't get them anymore. 2. They're hindering their money income because of these exclusive games on the Eshops being unavailable now. The only way they can be played now is ordering their physical copies on eBay and Nintendo doesn't get the money from the game being purchased off of the website. It goes to the person your buying it from. And 3. They can use all the money that people spend on Eshop just to play them for either the switch to enhance them or so that the Eshops can stay online. If they were going to do this then they should've at least made both the consoles and their games all physical so that they'll get the money from them and use it for what they need to use them for. Now it's going to be a lot harder to keep the switch going because of this.
Nowadays, I've mostly just been using the eShop for watching videos, like Nintendo Minute, Star Fox Zero: The Battle Begins, or any number of their Splatoon videos. (especially the Squid Sisters concert!)

Everyone needs to grab "Clash of the Elementalists" on the Nintendo 3DS eShop before it closes! The game is cheap but the gameplay is awesome! There's also a multiplayer mode but no download play, so make sure that everyone you know that has a 3DS gets this game! It's a DSi Ware game, so it's unlikely that we'll ever see it again!

As soon I I heard the news I immediately soft modded my Wii U and downloaded some wii I games for free and I’m thinking of modding my 3ds and my sister’s 2 ds as well
What if there was some kind of operation where you could ask Nintendo to make and send a physical/digital copy of an old game specifically for you? That way, they wouldn't have to spend so much time and maybe money constantly paying to keep low-profit E-shops online or making physical copies. . . . Nah that's makes to much sense (and probably too much of a hassle)
Dangi actually liked playing on my Wii U for Mario Kart 8 and Mario Maker. And I never tried bario bros u. I don't wanna play deluxe because it's not the same. And I just like old consoles just to experience them. Like the NES. I wasn't alive when it was popular but I wanna get one just to experience it. Same with other consoles. Xbox Ps2 N64 NGCube GameB SegaG and other stuff.
Emulation is bad but do we have a choice if nintendo genuinely does not want to work with the fans and just release legacy content on their current systems?
I honestly don't think this is a big deal. Granted I've only been playing my switch for the past couple years and my pc. I still have my 2DS but I'm not likely to download anything on there at all. My Wii U is in my storage unit and maybe someday I'll bring it to my current apartment that I live in now, but there's also a chance I might just sell it because well there's some money issues going on unfortunately and I really only play my switch and my PC.
@@Hauntaku because the DS was the first system I ever bought I have so many games I can play on my 2DS which includes my various 3DS games and the games I downloaded from the eShop as well as the many games I had bought for my original DS Lite. As much as I really love those games and despite mostly playing the DS in my young adult hood, I have very fond memories of that console probably even more so than the Game boy even though I grew up playing that, but yeah I most definitely play my switch way more and like I said I haven't even touched my 2DS and Wii U and years
Honestly, I knew this decision was inevitable but it’s stupid that they are doing it now. Yeah the Wii’s e-shop was shutdown but that was only after the Wii U lifespan was over and we had already had a few years with the switch. If Nintendo releases a new console soon then maybe this would be understandable but since there has been no major announcement of a new console this is just another unnecessary restriction on Nintendos marketplace.
just like gamecube, emulation will be necessary to play these games at all. Or hunt down physical copies which nobody wants to do. so technically your only option is get them virtually. nintendo sueing individuals simply because they emulated some games only hurt themselves. they don’t even make any money from physical copies sold on 3rd party sites. like eBay. or wish. and emulating games doesn’t even hurt nintendo at all. the only time it wouldn’t make sense to emulate a game is when you emulate a game which is being officially sold. even then, you still aren’t hurting nintendo. but if you some how get a shit ton of people to emulate a game that is being sold, then that could potentially make a small little dent in nintendo’s earnings. then it would be somewhat reasonable to take the emulator down. however if it was a old game, like paper mario: thousand year door, theres wouldn’t be a reason, because you don’t make money from that specific game, so it makes no dent at all in your income, back to 3ds and wii u eShop. the only reasonable reason why nintendo is shutting down both eShops, is money, if it becomes less profitable, then maintaining it, say, you make 600k off something you still need 1M to maintain it, it wouldn’t be profitable, and it wouldn’t make sense to keep up it. so saying nintendo is keep it up is stupid
or for Xenoblade download an iso and play it on the emulator which I did I just downloaded USB helper for Wii game cube and Wii u games and DLC and bam there you go. Xenoblade chronicles x and it plays better on the pc than the original hardware no lie I emulate Nintendo games cause of this reason and mod my consoles that's how I -- solve this problem.
