the wii was successful because it appealed to old people. my grandma LOVED hers! sadly she passed before we could get her a wii u and switch. even so, she loved her wii so much she barely noticed either of those releases. we also got her gamecube games for her wii, some were hit or miss. she never would touch games before trying my nintendo gamecube, and even then it was rare she would like them. the wii made her really exited for new games and a bit of an addict. though the GameCube laid the seeds, the wii converted my 89 year old, almost amish Gma into gaming, which is impressive because she was stubborn in her ways. i miss her. her MII gets remade on each new console, and in some games we play against her with her AI set on hard mode.

I honestly marvel at how thin the Switch is. It plays console games and yet it still has to make space for a touchscreen and battery while being light enough to hold... So I'm actually impressed that it's as strong as it is

Actually the Hentai stuff started with 3DS with games like Senran Kagura Burst. Also Nintendo had a fair few M rated titles on the GameCube. Nintendo trusts their Parental Control features these days & groups like the ESRB for almost 2 decades now, while Sony is the 1 censoring & banning Hentai games.

Nintendo has exclusive just as good as Sony, and if I dare say better. More genre defining games than Sony that's for sure. Sony exclusives don't last and most don't age well and a lot don't inspire. And honestly Sony is known for copying, now I didn't say Sony doesnt have good exclusive but i wouldn't say they are better, or they have better franchise compared to Nintendo.
Tbh recently one of my friends got annoyed because all her friends got Switches and don't own a PS4 like she does, so she said the Switch is for children and I probably got more annoyed than I should

Atelier is a long running series of JRPGs with a lot of emphasis on crafting, maybe something was censored on other consoles and not on Nintendo, but Atalier games are not hentai.
@@ian_bruh1 Lol me and my cousins still play that, first got New Super Mario Bros Wii since I was 6 in 2010, and I kept dying all the time (mostly the first 2 levels) and I never gave up playing it, till my parents told me to come upstairs and eat dinner everyday. Took me until 2016 (6 years from 2010) to finish the game and complete everything with 100%. Pretty nostalgic times. Great game, but I was more attached with Super Mario Galaxy 2, which was how I became a Nintendo fan. ALSO, I still need to get the SWITCH. AND PLAY ALL DAY. So, enjoy

I like the Wii because of its third party library. A huge step up from their previous two consoles and exclusively got many of the mid-tier games from Japanese developers that almost certainly would have been PS2 exclusives a generation ago. It revived 2D platformers, light gun games, and many dead series. Unfortunately, the image is that it's a party machine with only gimmicky casual games like Wii Music and Just Dance. Its offerings for core gamers is actually very deep.
The Wii could've used the zapper mode a lot more than it actually did. My childhood was all about the Sega rail shooter games (played them on PC). I really wish they had released the first House of the Dead as well as Virtua Cop 2.

The Switch is the fastest selling console of the generation (means it sold more in its first 2 years than PS4) It was no 1 publisher of 2018 (meaning it sold more games than PS4) Also has the highest rated/best selling exclusives of the generation. Imagine being 6yo platform with 90 million consoles sold getting crushed by a 2yo console. Guess there's a lot of kids with PS4s just for fortnite.

I honestly really love Nintendo. Sure, they were focusing on games for children, but now with the switch, they fixed most of that. There are now lots of games for lots more people. I’m going to get one soon with my savings (I’m twelve for context) so yeah! X box is great, so is ps4. But I think Nintendo is really good. This is coming from a x box gamer. Edit: got my switch! My brother (he was 14 at the time, I was 8) tried to clean a Wii remote by pouring water on it with batteries inside. We had a party that day and the Wii Remote only started working the next day.
Gimmicky or not, the Wii was revolutionary in its own way. It was a new paradigm for how to think and play games, everybody was caught off guard in that E3. People went crazy in that keynote. The Wii U was the proto-Switch but the marketing team did one of the worst job in the world, they tried to capitalize on the brand Wii - instead of Nintendo - but failed miserably to sell it as a new console, people thought it was like the Wii balance, an accessory... Hahahaha... Choosing ARM instead of x86 will prove to become a great strength for Nintendo. The custom SOC market for ARM based chips are bigger and bigger and the chips themselves are getting more powerful as well and they will start to compete in the Mac/PC market as well. Most mobile games are designed for ARM so it's much easier to develop for rather than Power PC based hardware like Nintendo had in the past.
Only casuals didn't know what the Wii U was. Real gamers knew it was a new console but didn't care because it was wack. The thing was barely more powerful than the ps3 and xbox360 even though it released 7-8 years after those consoles. Huge fail on Nintendo's end. Thankfully they redeemed themselves with the switch. It's still weaker than the competition but it gets away with it considering it's actually just a handheld console.

I will not buy anything sony unless they undo there censoring games. If i chose buy next gen it will be xbox and Nintendo. I supported sony for 2 gens but not any more. Im also now refusing to buy games from Actvision or Blizzard and im looking at wether to cut support for EA and Bioware. Im not happy with what ive seen lately at all.
Nintendo is the only company that doesnt just keep making the same system but stronger. They are innovative. They actually make different systems which has bit them in the ass at times but.....taking the chances they take to be different is paying off now!

I like when people talk sales as a marquee for what makes something good. Wii wasn't actually better than the 360, and Switch isn't better now. Fun experiment: Gamespot has a trade in program right now, for Switch owners to get the version with the improved battery (the dock still sucks, but ignore that for now). But hey, guess what! Most Switch games don't use cloud saves. So to transfer, you need BOTH systems, both with an AC connection, both connected to WiFi, and both to remain as such for like.. 4 hours. The Switch might be portable, and some people think BotW is the best Zelda (despite the fact Ocarina, Link to the Past, and Wind Waker exist), and that some games are a nostalgia addled burst of fun, but it's still made by Nintendo. And despite a lax stance on censorship (hypocritical to their last 25 years), the decisions behind the Switch are all pretty shitty. The EXACT SAME SHIT Sony got railed for (like backwards compatibility) everyone IGNORED for Nintendo's sake. Considering half of Switch's games are just uninspired Wii U ports and minor upgrades, it's more than a bit of a piss off to see the Nintendo = quality argument, even when it isn't true.

Nintendo’s branding with the Switch is brilliant. Prior to this generation Nintendo was the “family friendly” console maker. However, they now know that enough of their fan base has grown up around games to not freak out if they allow more mature and uncensored third party content on their platform, but still maintaining their family friendly image by having the games that “sell” the console be big family friendly first party games like Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, and Smash.
I still have 2 Wii's hooked up in m house(both homebrewed), they are still fantastic emulation boxes I use on the regular for retro gaming, and every once in a blue moon my family still likes to pull out Wii sports, or Sega Bass fishing, but be warned some games have already jumped up in price like the SNK collections, or the Data East Arcade Classics(going on average of $100 USD last I checked), so while you might find a system for cheap, you better hurry if you want some of the better "hidden gems" of the Wii library without having to give an arm and a leg for them. I'm glad I got in when most people did not give two craps about the Wii, and held onto my collection. Same can be said for my DS/3DS collection in which I've noticed some titles rising in price.
Octo Guy the switch isn’t competing against the ps4 and Xbox one. It’s competing against the coming next gen consoles. By that time it will be almost impossible for the switch to get multiplats. The sales will slow if Nintendo doesn’t come with the exclusives for their true competition
Octo Guy they are competing (but not the same gen), but sony is selling on par with the switch in while they’re on a decline.Their 6th year on the market and the next PlayStation 5 (which is actually the same generation as the switch) is coming up. That won’t bode well for future switch sales.

Microsoft is buying up studios that used to release Sony games and wont now. Sony has said they are buying more exclusives as well. its probably literally more cut-throat and costly $$$ NOW than it ever has been!!! Sony has a handshake agreement, (not even set in stone), from Sony proper, (not the games division), to share technology with Microsoft proper (not games division). And at most Sony will begin to use Microsoft servers instead of Amazon servers they use now if they get heavier into streaming (which they started with PSNow). That is not "working together". As that means Sony will be trying even harder to get you to pay for their monthly service, not Microsoft's!!!
"Console war" might be over -- but only in semantics. Its not going to be about the hardware soon -- its going to be about "monthly subscribers" and "Online member". "Xbox has 50 million active subscribers, Google Stadia only has 40 million lifetime who have lapsed on their subscription" -- its going to be phrased as that kind of thing.

It wasn't that hard to nail down was it......add pads to an iPad and call it a console. Honestly we all ate it up because....Nintendo. the vita had basically the same functionality and more releases and we ignored that but brought the DS by the bucket load. Nostalgia sells. Also 3 quarter's of Nintendo's sales are from kids/parents. The amount of 5 to 10 year olds I've seen playing g on these things is astonishing

I'd say it's the other way around. I don't like the Switch's games library as much, but the fact that the console is a hybrid makes it more convenient for me.
My stance on this video: I feel that the console war is still going on (although it’s coming to a close), but Nintendo has not been participating in the console war for a while. Since Nintendo is always hung up on the idea of motivation, they do not want to just sell a super powerful box like everyone else is. Nintendo decided to make their next console portable, this worked because it was much cheaper than the other consoles, and it is inhabiting a market that no one else is, this means that if you want a current portable console, you want the switch. The Nintendo switch (and especially the new switch lite) is not meant to compete with the other consoles, it is meant to co-exist with the other consoles. That is why the switch is doing so well and why I would’nt be surprised if the switch lite sells better than the switch. (Insert TED Talk joke here)
The fragrance of DANK MEMES you’re completely right, Nintendo is doing their own thing and that’s what makes them so successful and great. To me Xbox and PlayStation are pretty interchangeable with the exception of a few console exclusives while the switch really holds its own. The only reason I bought a PS4 over an Xbox is because I had more friends with ps4s, beside that it didn’t really matter which I got because they both are similar to me, but the switch is truly unique
Besides that, the Switch itself just seems like a smart, introspective decision on Nintendo's part. The Wii U may have struggled badly, but when it comes to the handheld market Nintendo has been dominating for about the last 2 decades. So to just combine that with their "normal" console was a genious move, they stuck with their strengths and it paid off massively. Now if only they could get their online game up to speed...
What are you talkin about? Wii U has Netflix, internet browser and can play Wii disc games. Switch doesn't have those features, so Switch is more of a shitty downgraded version of the Wii U.

Nintendo wants to change their perception of their audience to be all ages, but the past can really haunt you and I feel like they used to market themselves as a kids console compared to the marketing that SEGA did when bashing on Nintendo.

The switch brings out lots of features compared to other consoles and that’s what makes it so ahead of its time to only be able to use it docked when you are home and to use it out there in portable mode its just incredible. To all of you PlayStation and Xbox kids, you gotta accept that Nintendo is winning a war that they aren’t even trying to participate in.
Being a portable console doesn't make up for the fact that most games run like complete garbage. And no it's not just fortnite. I own a switch and a ps4 but I stopped playing the switch because ps4 is just better overall.

@@GameDjeenie That's because it had a DVD player function at a time when DVD players were very expensive. It was the cheapest DVD player at the time and could also run video games, so it makes sense that a fuckton of people would buy it.
