It's funny seeing old Scott right next to new Scott. The quality was always good, but it is very apparent that he has made serious efforts to improve everything.
Scott: Here's an hour and a half long video about stickers Nintendo puts on their boxes. Me: Thank you for this bountiful feast, you are a generous soul and I love you.
It's a diagnosisbthat gets thrown around a lot, but I wonder if you transcribed this video and gave it to a therapist, how many times they'd slam it with a stamp reading "OCD".
Super Famicom boxes would send you into outright *apoplexy.* The box art is orders of magnitude superior to the NA and EUR releases, but holy fuck! One long edge of the box has the game logo, the other has the Super Famicom trade dress, the game ID, and (optionally) a smaller version of the game logo... Though *no one seems to agree on which side is which.* So if you want consistent spine-facing, your games will face all sorts of different directions, seemingly at random. What's worse is that some developers can't decide whether box art should be landscape or portrait orientation. The majority is portrait, but then you've got devs like Square who put out many a game with landscape orientation box art... And it's not even *all* Square games, either! If it was, you could forgive it, you know? Just put all the Square games on one shelf! Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Romancing SaGa, Front Mission... All landscape... But then games like the Seiken Densetsu series and Hanjuku Hero are portrait...just for shits and giggles! Even with the SFC launch titles the wheels had already come off the wagon... Gradius III was in landscape orientation *and* fucked up the trade dress versus logo spine display compared to all Nintendo's first-party games.
I remember another one of these labels, the “Nintendo Selects” line, and I hope these discounted games come back for the switch. Update 1: Well, looks like there’s some rumors about Nintendo Selects coming back for the Switch. If this ends up being true, I’ll be so excited!
Everyone in the comments regurgitate scotthewoz manuerisms its kinda disturbing to me tbh. Take me back to the days of scottthewoz having like 6k subs, and started to explode because of a jontron subreddit takeover. This man became a meme back then it was legendary
seeing someone know wtf picross 3d is amazing. that game KICKED MY ASS as a kid, whenever i'd play on my sisters ds lite. so happy to see someone actually liked it too
36:01 my dad had one of these and gave it to me as a kid. Knowing what it is now I am incredibly pissed because I left it out in the rain on my play set outside and it was totaled :(
I just noticed the European versions of wii games have different spines. All the fonts are exactly the same like the switch and even on the nintendo selects versions we don’t have an emblem of some sorts.
I understand the problem when your organizing the games alphabetically, but for me it makes the most sense to organize my games by release date. But I'm only collecting a few games (all Sonic games plus whatever outside of those I want) so it makes more sense to order them by release
The original PlayStations Greatest Hits was the epitome of discounted games. It was a big reason why Sony was so successful. Everyone else including themselves tried to recapture that magic later down the road.
A lot of my ps2 games were the burgundy ones , we didn't really buy videogames a lot so i was a little late to getting a PS2. Some really great memories. Also why hasn't taito rereleased taito legends?!
You must see our PAL snes and n64 Nintendo Classics 😭, they s**k (spoiler: we had reprint also for NES games, like Zelda... which was reprinted as a... normal grey and not gold cartridge 🫣😵💫)
