Thank you so much for watching. I'm working on the script for the next one right now. I hope to get a lot done next week when I'm off and my wife is working :)
Thank you for your kindness. and for watching, commenting, and subscribing. My only goal is to make something that I'm proud of and that makes people feel nostalgic about classic gaming... and maybe smile a little.
I think nearly everything has been done, but you can do whatever you want... just put a slightly different spin on it and be yourself. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for watching. It seems that there's a pretty big retro community in Australia. Am I right? I see a lot of comments and subscribers from down under. Thanks again!
Thank you for understanding about the delay between videos. It really is time-consuming to edit the way that I do, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I really want make videos I'm proud of.
Thank you so much for watching and saying such kind words. I truly appreciate it. Sorry I'm just getting back to you. Life has been quite unpredictable lately.
Thank you for the support :) I will try... I wish I had the first 50 issues done. It would be pretty cool to watch them in succession and see gaming history unfold.
Thank you so much. I'm trying to do them... one by one. There are so many other ideas I want to record and I have so little time. I'll try to get them all eventually.
Thank you for watching and saying such kind words about this video. It really means a lot to me. Sometimes I start to wonder if these videos are having the desired effect. Then I get an awesome comment like yours and I'm overjoyed that I could bring out the nostalgia. Sorry about the water heater explosion :) Thanks also for noticing the Saved By The Bell reference. No one else has said a word about it.
Thank you for watching. I'm glad I could send you back to 1988 for a bit (even if you weren't there the first time lol. The next episode will be 1989...
Thanks James. I don't know how I missed your comment. I'm so glad you said this episode was "pure nostalgia" because I'm trying so hard to create that feeling in this series... It's nice to know that it's working :) Can't wait for another chocolatey batch of easter eggs.
Thank you again Hek. You always have the most encouraging things to say... it really energizes me and reminds me of why I started RU-vid! Any new videos in the works, man?
I'm working on it... I promise. I have too many plans and too little time. Eventually NPTM and Is It Fun will be the only videos I really make, but for now I've got a few plans :).
Wow! Thank you! I enjoy them quite a bit, too. I wish my life wasn't so busy all the time. I am such a perfectionist. I put ridiculous amounts of time into each episode. I hope to have another one out in a month or so... i have a few other projects to finish up first.
Thanks. I don't mind not getting paid, but I wish I had the free time needed to do them on a regular basis. It's really fun, but life pulls in so many ways. I just wrote the script for issue #4 and I'm gonna do #5 as well. I have like 9 episodes of Is It Fun and I need to bring NPTM up to speed. Thanks for your support, bro.
Holy RU-vidrs Batman! That's quite a crowd of amazing guys! It's hard to believe you mentioned me in the same sentence. I am humbled. I will keep trying to make videos that you'll enjoy. It is so rewarding to time travel back into the 80s and 90s and see what gaming was like..
I totally agree. and to be perfectly honest there are times when pouring over these magazines is more enjoyable than playing the games. :O Nintendo Power drips with nostalgia in a way that can't be matched.
This is a great effort to preserve our gaming heritage. For those old enough to remember, Nintendo Power was the most important source for gaming news back then, and each page seemed to always be filled with information, images...pure wonder. I'm going to miss Nintendo Power, but I am content in knowing that through efforts like this, the magazine will never truly be forgotten.
I think I have that CYOA book... was it called "Double Trouble" or something? Mario's face is looking in multiple directions or something? I have quite a few CYOA books. They were the video games of reading when I was a kid.
Geez does this series bring back memories. I'm not that old (almost 18) but I've been getting Nintendo Power since I was five years old. Puts a smile on my face watching these videos. Thank you!
Thank you! I didn't see much on YT about Nintendo Power and I love the mag, so I thought it would be unique for the retro gaming community. As far as editing goes... OCD perfectionism is a blessing and a curse! lol. I'm glad you appreciate it :)
So funny you say that. I just recorded episodes 4 and 5 and in issue 5 there was a letter from a teacher about how kids learned problem solving from NES games. I actually talk a bit about it, too. lol.
I wish there was more quality content like this on youtube. Great show my friend. I really enjoyed it. L1 Games told told me about your channel and, after watching this video, I subbed. :D
I've just discovered your channel today, and I've been marathon watching/listening to your work. Fantastic stuff! you do a great job of reminding me of these good old days of gaming. Subscribed!
Dude you have the most amazing comments. You time index everything and have such thoughtful things to say. I really appreciate you, bro. We'll have to Skype again soon.
Well all I have to say to that is well done. If those are your goals then mission accomplished. :D I really enjoy the retro gaming scene as well. I actually prefer retro over current gen games most of the time. I shared your channel with some of my friends so hopefully that will help you grow a little more. I appreciate your work and will keep watching your videos in the future, showing my support, and will help you anyway I can.
Just subscribed. Thank you so much for these. NP was a big part of my childhood. An issue in my mailbox always made for a great day! So sad to see it go by the wayside this past December, but rest assured I scooped up the final issue. Thank you, again! Great work, and I look forward to more. (My personal favorite was the Link to the Past issue...can't wait)
You're welcome! I look forward to those, gotta get you a weekly tv show! You're tapping in to the nostalgia vibe that I look for in a RU-vid channel, lotta replay value in your videos as well. Thanks for all of your hard work.
Just discovered your channel a couple days ago. Just watched all your Nintendo Power Time Machine videos now. Just subscribed. ;) Good show, man. You made me feel like a kid again.
This is the best video I've seen on youtube in a long time. Makes me want to dig out my old issues from the basement (I think that is where they are)... though, they're probably, sadly, moldy by now. --Damn you, water tank explosion of 2005! Great selection of game music for this video. I can instantly hum them all! And Bonus points for "Lisa?"
That would be interesting to do, but I think I'll wait and see if more people subscribe or wait until I have like 20 episodes of NPTM. I think a behind the scenes would come off as kinda arrogant if I did one too early in my RU-vid career. I agree though. I love behind the scenes stuff.
Woah the power pad ad takes me back. A friend of mine had a power pad when I was young, I can remember working up a sweat running on the bloody while my pal smugly used his hands instead.
School yard rumors... My buddy Jason used to always make up stories. He told me his Aunt brought SMB3 back from Japan and that Wart was the final boss again... Of course when it came out I discovered he was lying and from then on whenever he lied I told him he was pulling a "Super Mario Bros. 3"...
Wow Wow Wow! This channel is WHY I'm into this hobby all the way. This episode is great. I can only imagine what the next show is going to be like. I must say, you are my favorite RU-vidr here. You are so awesome in what you do. I do have fond memories of Track and Field 2 with the exception of the same things you mentioned. Brings back memories of Junior High with all the guys at lunch time talking about secrets and rumors and trading games. Good times.. good times... hell yeah! : )
Wow, after all of these years, I finally realized why my father gave me the nick name of "Nester" . His name was Howard. He on day saw me flipping though a Nintendo Power and saw the strip of "Howard and Nester" . The rest is history that I just figured out like 30 years later.
I love the way how you appreciate magazines as time capsules. I have recently had to say goodbye to Nintendo Gamer that was a UK mag. I also have got Nintendo Gamer the Australian mag that went out of print in 2003 and it was unrelated to the UK mag that was called NGC mag at the time. The UK one was formally Super Play and then went onto being N64 mag, then NGC mag and then NGamer and finally Nintendo Gamer that was meant to be for the WiiU until the publisher pulled their pin.
DiGG`n the concept man, always wondered what I had missed out on in the back issues....LoL, thanks for the trip down mem`ry lane it`s much appreciated!!!
Just wanted to say NEScomplex, that your channel is good as they come. Watched every episode. cannot wait for the next. I came from the game chasers :)
The last thing I want to watch after a long day at work is a tired, frustrated dude groaning about games. Thanks for noticing my demeanor. I love gaming in the 80s and 90s and I really do get excited about it. Those were great times and the games are STILL fantastic.
You know I can never tell what jokes people will find funny, but I just throw it all out there and hope for the best. I'm glad I could assist you in making milk come out your nose.
Captain N was so weird, but I liked it. I used to love that Mario cartoon. My parents didn't buy me video games until I was in Jr. High and the N64 came out (I got a SNES), so I loved anything that was related to games at all. I used to have a choose your own adventure type Mario puzzle novel that I consumed. Would love to get my hands on one of those again.
Unfortunately my first issue of nintendo power was the final fantasy players guide, so I missed out on quite a few nintnedo powers until my subscription started to kick in, but its good to see some of the content these magazines had especially on the older issues I missed out on as a child.
I actually looked it up on Amazon after I commented and added the one I had to my wish list. Double Trouble was the first of the Nintendo Adventure Books series. I had #3 - Monster Mix Up. My parents didn't buy many video games for me until I was in Jr. High. Maybe that's why I loved the CYOA's so much. My favorite was Daredevil Park about a kid who won a trip to a theme park preview. I remember you could die by electricution at the beginning if you chose to watch TV while you took a bath.
Also the Australian Nintendo Gamer was a mag that introduced me to the amazing RPGs for the GameCube and GBA in 2003 and that was more to compensate the loss of RARE the year before.
Just wanted to say that during this episode my headset which could only play out one side for the past week miraculously fixed themselves as I watched this video. So I guess thanks for fixing my headset!
Just watched a video by Metal Jesus Rocks which is another collector like you and he showed some of his retro magazines and he mentioned a magazine "Nintendo Fun Club News" which predates Nintendo Power. They made 7 copies before they changed the name to Nintendo Power and I was wondering if you had any copies of them?
What a great video! I totally forgot about Captain N, I loved it as a kid... The only thing I don't like is having to wait for the next issue; with this quality of editing is going to take some time... :-( Thank You!!! (ps: the frog game may have a weird story, but it is really fun)
