Reecee, the problem with the industry is that it's gotten too big. Thanks to more powerful hardware, the budgets, time, and manpower to create games has increased drastically. Triple A games are costing around $200-300 million to develop. Innovation and creativity are suffering because companies find it to be too big of a risk to create something new when a single failure can prove devastating for a company now. The sheer scope, the amount of time and money, is not sustainable. Sony used to have a varied library of IP under their belt. Now? It's mostly third person narrative focused walking simulators. As for Microsoft, they're trying to become the next Netflix, but they fail when it comes to delivering quality games. All these acquisitions and it doesn't seem to be helping with their game output. We're at the mid point of Sony and Microsoft's systems, and it's a generation of nothing. Outside of Nintendo, this is honestly the most boring generation so far. Four years and both systems barely have any exclusives. It also doesn't help that the cost of games and services keep increasing thanks to inflation. Satoru Iwata saw where the industry was heading, and that's why Nintendo's not tried to keep up with Sony and Microsoft because we're seeing the consequences of making games so massive in scope, focusing on hyper-realistic visuals, and the push for live service games. It's for that reason that I'm fine with the Switch 2 being on par with the PS4. I'd be content if docked was 1440P and handheld was 1080P with hopefully more games being 60FPS. I don't think the industry will crash like it did in 1983, but I think there's going to be a massive shake up in the AAA industry. It's not feasible to continue going in this direction. Western gaming is crumbling, but the Japanese side of gaming is thriving. Sony and Microsoft need to take some pages from Nintendo's book and see AA games and games of smaller scale return. Not every game needs to be on the scope of Starfield and The Last of Us Part 2. Sorry for the huge essay, but I wanted to ramble about this to you as I'm not happy with the current state of gaming and where the industry is headed. And Happy 7th anniversary to the Nintendo Switch! Quite possibly my favorite system of all time!

The Switch was probably planned to be released in 2019 if the Wii U didn't fail
