Great video as always. Thanks for the quality content. It would be nice if you had on-screen multimeter readings, you always tell us the mode and the reading but having it on the screen would be cool.

each time you have a successful fix, it's nice to see you smile all the time... some time you look frustrated or challenged but once you find the issue and on top of all it works, nice smile and it shows that you are really satisfied !

No corrosion, no signs of liquid damage, yet the liquid submersion indicator has turned red. I remember a few years back when the LG G4 bootloop was a big discussion topic in forums, a lot of people complained that they were not covered by warranty because that sticker had turned red. Starting from those years, I remember having read A LOT of complaints on the internet of people claiming that they were taking good care of their devices, not having exposed it to water or extreme humidity, yet not being covered by warranty (for known issues with specific phone models) due to these freaking stickers having turned red. Then a quite frequent belief appearing in forums that the stickers are made on purpose to easily turn red to easily void warranties when seems fit. I remember at that time I checked my phone's battery sticker and of every older phone I had sitting on the self and all of them had turned red, knowing very damn well that none of my phones were ever exposed to water or extreme humidity. 🤔 Talk about conspiracies.

Capacitors before give tell-tales such as darkened, peeled or swollen bodies, now you have to trace measure and gauge at different points. Interesting these CAPs still cause problems in modern electronics.

Soldering Question: I see sometimes you add solder to the tip only and apply it to the pads or legs. Then sometimes you heat the pad etc, and add the solder directly. Is there a case for one over the other? I've only ever done, heating the point then sliding the solder wire to the spot. Thanks.
@hawk2798
@hawk2798 Год назад
Nice question. Can someone answer?
@robertpage2023
@robertpage2023 Год назад
For me, it's just experience and knowing your tools and technique combination. Pads are thin and take little heat to get solder attached but it's how many pads in the area to re-tin versus the amount of solder needed to cover them. Get some old boards and remove the components and then remove the old solder using copper mesh, alcohol clean the area and reflux, then use only your solder iron with the different tips to get the feel for how much heat and solder you need to re-tin the pads. REPETITION is how you learn. I use a combination of techniques for big chip removal and replacement such as bending copper wire into the outer shape of the chip's feet to heat them all up at once. Usually there is enough heat from using this technique that will also melt the solder under the chip. It's a great technique for when a heat gun will be too close to something that will melt. And always make sure that you are venting your solder gases away. Even if you have to set up a box fan in a window blowing out, that will keep the solder gases from being breathed. I use a bar of salammoniac to keep my solder tips clean along with a stainless steel scrub pad. Sometimes if the board I'm working on is dirty I will have a wet cotton towel near by to wipe my solder tip on. Clean solder tip, flux and heat setting all takes experience to control as well as how much solder to keep melting on the tip. I used to do a lot of copper work on chimney flashings using a 50/50 tin/lead bar and large soldering coppers that I heated using a propane fired oven. The flux I used was called "cherry juice" as it was redish pink in color. Occasionally I would also solder galvanized sheet metal that I first had to brush on hydrochloric acid in the areas I was soldering to break down the zinc coating so that I could make the tin/lead solder stick. I used the same soldering technique there that I use in my micro soldering. My first micro soldering gun was a Sears electric solder gun that I used with electrical acid core solder. Electronic soldering gear has come a long way since then.
@j.m.5995
@j.m.5995 Год назад
It's simply a better technique
@rd7935
@rd7935 Год назад
It helps you have better control over the amount of solder that you apply to the pads, and it is also better for small areas where you only have the soldering tip in there, as opposed to the soldering tip + the solder wire, which you need two hands to do and blocks your view more

Honestly you can do it either way. Alex is just showing multiple ways to do the same thing. For some people one way is easier than another. So in the end it's all about what you feel comfortable doing.

Well im not a soldering pro but from what i understant is it makes the solder stick only to metals. After soldering the chip he also uses it to remove any bridges between the pins. Also very important is that solder prevents oxidation. At first i also didnt understand why the solder is used but thanks the videos like this now i see how it would be almost impossible to do certain soldering projects especially microsoldering. Im not talking about soldering together two wires, thats very basic level of soldering.
