That was part of their undoing though. They tried too hard to innovate and by the end of their time in the console market they were all over the place. They made the 32x for the genesis, then released the saturn at the same time. Thus negating the entire purpose of the 32x. Saturn having multiple chips was too difficult to make games for, then they made the dreamcast in an attempt to skip 2 entire generations. But because everyone else was so far behind, devs didnt see the point in supporting it since n64 and ps1 were so popular. Nomad is a prime example of just because you can doesnt mean you should. If its screen wasnt so terrible itd have probably sold better.

Sega did some intriguing things that don’t get talked about enough, like stuffing a Genesis/MD and a regular PC into a single computer. The Sega TeraDrive runs both regular PC and Genesis/MD software without emulation. There was also a GPU that would allow you to play various Saturn ports and it included the console’s controller ports. Young gamers might not think it's special, I can assure them it was because console ports weren't as common as they are now.

As a kid, I was a Nintendo fanboy who grew up to love Sega stuff also. Played the Genesis over friends' houses. Ended up buying the Saturn and Dreamcast (though I owned a Playstation and N64 first).

@@protocetid My favorite example of Sega being too ahead of its time was the motion-controlled fishing rod for the Dreamcast. They essentially invented the Wiimote five years before Nintendo, but didn't realize what they had. There was even unofficial support for it in one of the Virtua Tennis games, and it worked. But no one knew about it until years later because the feature was totally unadvertised. Which is basically the most Sega thing ever. (*sighs*)

@@bitwize yeah , virtua Racing has the Sega VIrtual Processor chips in it which is Sega response to Star Fox Super FX. :D pretty great game.

It's true tho, the Nomad is so big that it just stands there and no need kickstand to support it

US only, it being very late. Even the Turbo Graphx bring the same games on the Express even if not the same experience. I think it fit well for the time regardless of battery life it's impressive for sure. But you don't hear it compared to the GBC/Neo Geo Pocket & Color, Wonderswan or so which were also 8 bit handhelds than the 16bit Genesis on the go.

@@protocetid Not all of them. But some. The vita was capable of handling games at that level, the devs just didn't have the time to split efforts to make the games run well on vita. It was the promise of the vita but not the result. Sadly. But yeah Sony could be making a ps4 pro portable right now. But they won't.

Rigth those bullshit little buttons on the Swtich pre tending to be a dpad are a joke, I really hate the joycons crappy thumb pads and triggers it’s bad all around besides the regular face buttons and even those seem to small

@@GhibliNova I beg to differ. I travel with my Xbox to hotels and never experienced problems running my physical disc. However recently I tried running a cartridge on my switch and it absolutely denied me of running the game without an update. Like WTF?

@@onetwo6039 thats because Xbox hasn't cut the servers yet. You can play offline for a certain amount of time, and then you need to reconnect to the internet. well when the servers are cut. nothing will work. it's not a matter of opinion that's how the system works

Genesis and Nomad are a System 16 arcade board, a powerful machine in its time that could definitely do 3D graphics like Outrun and Space Harrier. They could even render thousands of flat shaded polygons per second.

It can't play Sega CD & 32x games though.
