Whenever is see boards in this state, I often think another repair Tech sent it in anonymously to test ones skills. It can’t be possible for someone to create such a masterpiece. Grand effort gets a 👍🏻 from me. 🇬🇧
RU-vid doesn't help either... to some degree. People see what looks like really easy repair work done on a video and think hell yeah man, I can do this. And they quickly find out, no... they cannot.
@@hansuwe9114 I gathered that. I meant that others would just post all successful videos, when the reality is that not everything is a success! Keep em coming 👍
It always nice to stream both winning n no fix videos cos that actually shows how transparent the technician is. If also helps the learning technicians to understand that there is win n loss. It truly helps the mind n understand the nature of business. Great video man thx nice again
I agree that in some cases you don't need every ground pad but in cases where there are vias that connect to those pads then I think you may need those connected. In cases where there are two vias connected on one pad you may need to at least connect the two vias. Sometimes they are needed not just for full power delivery but some devices need them for detection of a proper cable capable of full power. It's tedious but sometimes necessary.
Thanks for uploading especially this video as it takes lot of courage to shows the failure, many youtubers can't do it so that their channel will get more subscribers.Keep uploading we will always supports you .Even I don't skip ads every time I watch your videos.
A coin on the joycon dock connector to protect it from the hot air, that's pretty clever! Even though this board was a fail, I still learned from your video, thank you very much.
Too risky for such a small reward, especially on the switch ports with the 2 rows of pins easy to bend them and u can’t see what ur doing behind the first row
It's also refreshing for an American to pronounce the word "Solder" correctly too. The Americans usually say "Sodder" which is grammatically incorrect.
You should for sure just correct every grammatical error you come across, people really appreciate that. It's almost as if people have other things to worry about or don't give a flying fuck.
Little tip: enameled wire can be found and reclaimed from broken audio speakers of cellphones or transformers from cellphone or laptop chargers. I never buy wire because I always use reclaimed wire and always get a good result. Greetings!
@@NorthridgeFix How can I identify if it's a bypass capacitor? Also, what are the temps you were using for the hot air? Love your videos, you are a real pro! Seems almost easy when you do it 😃
@@laboratorioassembler WOW! It's new to me. Firstly, THANKS! :) As my understanding according to what you say, I f it has one side shorted to ground it's a bypass cap, So how can I measure if a cap is good or not? The way that I know is that one side should beep in continuity mode and the other won't..
great attempt brother. Fix or None, its an experience that viewers value and learn from. The way you drown the pads in flux and then go over it with soldering pen with some solder on them is still a technique I am yet to master and this video I learned how the ground pads dont need to be replaced and as for the pads and soldering application for reflow, its best to flux out and make sure the flux is coverin the pads and then run the solder pen with solder quickly and the pads will flow and pickup the solder quickly. Thaanks Alex. :). Wish you would disclose the solder tip size? I am still waiting since March 23 haha. Please comment here or text me back if possible when you're free for a second. Weller wXMP what size tip or part number, thanks in advance :). - Ari
I have been using conductive gold and silver paints on repairs on my Soviet quartz watches as I haven't the skill to do little wires and I can make nice little tracks if I mask it off carefully enough. The problem is when the battery's go on these old CCCP quartz beasts, usually the owner just chucks it in the drawer and forgets about it and few weeks down the line the battery explodes inside and because the circuit board traces are micron thin tracks, the battery acid neatly dissolves unprotected areas before munching on the viton sealing rings turning the whole insides into a black goo corrosive mush and a lot of work as the coils end up dissolving as well.
I'm skeptical the guy reflowed the CPU that's why it's a no fix situation. He probably learned a hard lesson on that attempt. Anyways still flawless repairs. Keep posting videos Boss. God bless.
It's not that it's unfixable -- it can be fixed. Unfortunately for customer, the value of the device is too low for a busy shop to explore that rabbit hole.
@@deathtrap1976 : Hello. I am confident that Northridge Fix (NF) can repair that board. The real obstacle is money. If customer give NF a blank check and challenge him to fix it, he will. Ugly boards are repaired by competent techs every day as long as someone is willing to pay.
Someone made a total mess and passed the remains on thinking it could be fixed. I hate working on something someone else has ‘tried’ to fix. Hacks me off the quality of work that cowboys pass off as good.
Hey! I stopped by a few times and after watching your videos, I’m extremely interested in tech repair. Are you still offering your classes or do you plan on still pursuing your monthly classes on repairs?
NorthridgeFix I was the donut guy who brought in the dozen! I hope you enjoyed them because it seems like you’re putting in a lot of work on your end. Don’t forget to take a brake every once in awhile. Thank you for helping me with my PC. I watched your recent switch video and I saw you pointed out my comment and it made my day! Will sign up for your classes as I’m local!
I don't understand the assumption that the previous repair attempt involved replacing all those ICs. Isn't it just as likely the other guy tried to simply reflow them the same way you did? Perhaps the issue is actually with one of the ICs, but the other guy tried the basics too (and botched the USB-C port and left a mess to boot) but gave up under time and parts constraints?
I’ve seen nicer donor boards. In every field there are people that work on things until they can’t be fixed. Then it passed to someone else. I feel your pain brother. Same thing happens to me.
As a system software developer, at least I had the advantage of backing out the previous developers changes through version control. This was very upsetting to see; it seems who ever worked on the board took the shotgun approach, no plan.
It sucks, switch most of the time has shorts somewhere and if its not generating heat its very hard to repair since there is no schematic, cant tell there traces go,like. I have one right now i have short in 2 areas, pulled chips off still shorted, it turns on but gives error 2002-4364
It is getting very difficult for me to remove shorting from tv mother board if I use benchpower supply the main ic is getting burnt sir iam your regular follower please make a video on short finding when you are free . Love from india
Love what you do and how you teach. When you reflow with the heat gun what temperature and airflow do you use... I seem to either burn the board or not melt. Doing my own stuff. Keep uploading the vids and thanks from the uk
men i didnt have a donor boards here that things didnt works. where di you find donor boards..? i need a little resistance where its the p13usb accidentally i blows up and didnt notice that men im stock here please hep
How much is the temp and air flow of the quik? U used to solder back the type c port. U did not remove the solder on The bridged cap next to the charging IC.. do not if u do it off camera
Great video on why diy repairs,, or repairs at non reputable repair shops need to be avoided. Teach people to even check some reviews, most don’t, most people look for cheap promises and disappointment
