Yeah, it's not even a question. Live service games just have a horrible reputation. It's the exception, rather than the rule, if a live service game's servers are still up after a year.
Speaking of the strength of the Crazy Taxi IP is defined by the fact that a whole lot of people today will even start that conversation with “What is a taxi?”
Temper expectations for Switch 2 sales. Calling it now it will underperform because by the time it releases the economy is going to be a disaster. People already aren’t going out or spending money. For the first time in a long time people’s savings are rising right now. Stores are closing all over the place. It’s just dead everywhere.
I’m still in the camp that it won’t be releasing in 2025. Nintendo announced they would be announcing details of the new system this fiscal year. But if you look at every previous system launch, they reveal these details a year plus before it hits the shelves. I still think it’ll be released in 2026, and it’ll give markets time to adjust. There is always uncertainty and panic whenever there is an upcoming election I the USA. My financial advisor advised me how the markets would go into panic leading into the upcoming election.
The supply of switch successor systems is like a liquid that will flow into bot-assisted resellers’ shopping carts. Increased supply alone will not simply not work. Nintendo needs to offer an opportunity for each Nintendo Network ID to purchase a reserved system over week one…or something like that. Nintendo needs to take an action to not screw over the end user. They can’t just blame the retailers when THEIR (overly produced) system is the next to get gobbled up by shopping bots.
UNLESS their pockets (and resources) are so deep (and vast) they can bankrupt the resellers with the quantity of units manufactured by day one where everyone who wants one can have one while. Essentially leaving the resellers stuck with their inventory
The only console I got on day one was the Dreamcast. 9/9/99! I was a kid though so I didn’t see it until after school that day. Midnight release would’ve been fun.
Poll suggestion: Have you ever paid more than retail for a console? "Yes, $100 or more from a scalper", "Yes, a little over retail for a bundle or scalper", "No, I never pay more than retail".
I’m getting Switch 2 day freaking 1, I want to be there for the entire Switch 2 generation especially as my biggest regret is not getting Switch sooner than I did.
As long as they fix the preorder process of consoles. No one has done it yet where it’s actually possible to get one (without going through crazy hoops or getting lucky). I’m hoping Nintendo does something creative to help the fans get one.
@@mikeuk666I’m sure Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. Nintendo isn’t gonna throw 141 million users (myself included) under the bus and not make Switch 2 backwards compatible, I’m sure this is behind the aggressive lawsuits from Nintendo.
I was there day one for the Wii U & Switch and I have no regrets. It's been a fun ride and now we get to see it off in the sunset as the best selling console of all time. 🤞
I love how every generation Capcom announces a new IP... And then it misses the release date, gets pushed back years, misses the release date again, and the quietly gets cancelled and people just forget... The hell happen to that sci-fi game for PS5 that was suppose to come out 3 years ago
I do think that they will be able to manage the scalping situation. If their solution isn't going to make 2x or 3x more consoles then maybe they can take some pre-orders on their site themselves and then send it out when they are ready to ship them. The key thing here is they can limit purchasers to something like 1 per account or one that has been active for more than a month or two, to try and stop scalpers from just making a bunch of new accounts to mass buy them.
Maybe ship one console per address and not allow another console to ship to that address for a certain amount of time (unless it's a replacement console). Of course, scalpers work every retailer that they can, so even "one per address" isn't much of an issue for scalpers. Perhaps the thing to do is work with resell sites to take down reseller pages as they go up.
@@TayoEXE By "do good for once" you mean, "Don't focus on other people doing what they really should not be doing" or "Ignore me breaking the very rules you told me not to violate".
In hindsight, for those who did pay extra on sites such as eBay to get either PS5 model and/or an XBS within the first year or two (almost three in the case of the PS5), was it really worth it?
I think the difference between the Switch launch and Switch 2 launch is with Nintendo coming off the Wii U, they definitely didn’t produce as many Switch consoles as they needed to in order to meet demand, but I’m sure with the success of the Switch they’ll be more willing to produce as many consoles as possible, within reason, for this next system.
@@Bam-rx3svI remember hearing back in the iPhone scalping day, scalpers are paying random individuals who aren’t interested in the phone to buy the phone in store. So your implementation doesn’t exactly stop scalpers from scalping. It’ll simply slow them down and force them to come up with another way to obtain the console. Not that your idea is bad but Nintendo will have to weight the pros vs cons. Such as slowing down sales to a crawl to fight scalping while potentially aggravating legitimate and on the fence buyers. Slow sales also slow down adoption.
@@Bam-rx3sv No, you can. People scalp things because it's easy money. The harder you make it to scalp an item (limiting purchase numbers, in person only, etc) the fewer the number of people willing to jump through those hoops. And because of the hoops, and taking more time, it's not like the few who do go through the trouble will make more money. They also have a smaller market of people to sell to because most (or at least more) consumers can purchase directly from a retailer without the markup. It's worth implementing these sorts of controls, even if they don't completely eliminate scalping. It still helps people get the console at MSRP. That's the goal, not necessarily eliminating scalping.
I don't understand Sony's fascination with making people sign up for a PSN account. Like it literally makes it so their game can't be sold in the vast majority of countries it just makes no sense from a business sense.
I remember camping outside of Best Buy for the Xbox 360 launch. We froze myself, my mom and my uncle tapping out taking turns warming up in his jeep, with our dunkin donuts warm drinks and hand warmers. We ended up being 2 people behind the last console sold. They only had 15 consoles. The next day we randomly went into a Target and they were setting them out in the middle of the floor in the entertainment section. My favorite launch console memory.
I remember the launch of the 360. I was one of hundreds of thousands in Canada who were already at home playing it weeks before it’s street launch because of a Microsoft-Pepsi “win every hour” opportunity to win and receive the Xbox 360 weeks before the release date. Those were fun times.
Speaking of digital, I have a friend who used to work for PS customer service, and he'd tell me some stories. There was one poor, older-sounding woman, who called due to wondering what happened to the Madden game she ordered for her grandkid because it never came to her house. My friend had to explain to that poor woman that she signed up for a PlayStation Network account, and bought a digital game, not a physical game.
Benefit of digital first/physical later: Bugs can potentially be patched out before the physical release. Now, whether or not they take advantage of that is a different story.
The Dead Space remake is absolute proof that you do not need a game to be 1st person to be terrifying. It just needs to be done right. That being said, RE7 is the scariest Resident Evil game I've ever played.
Open world massively multiplayer, likely loaded with mtx, sounds more like a f2p game than a $70 game to me. I loved Crazy Taxi back in the day but this kills any interest I had. I was hoping for something like a $40 reboot/remake. I can't imagine any world where Crazy Taxi is a successful $70 game.
I mean, this past year alone, TPC in general generated 1.9 billion dollars in revenue. Pokemon as an IP essentially is default profits whether it be games or other merchandise.
"The Pokémon Company's latest financials reveal the strongest year yet for the Japanese giant, having generated a record-breaking ¥297.5 billion ($1.9 billion) in the 12 months leading to February 29th, 2024."
Not everyone will be early adopters, though. Many will stay with the old units, plus backwards compatibility might be a thing for new games for a while, so I don't think we need to be sold 10M consoles immediately.
Part of the from the moddedhardware lawsuit would require MH to tell/give Nintendo the information of those who bought the mig switch. page 23: "Requiring Defendant to provide NOA with any and all invoices, purchase orders, shipping confirmations, receipts, and any other documentation reflecting revenue received by Defendant in connection with the Circumvention Devices, Hacked Consoles"
I never camped out because my parents never let me by the time I was old enough I didn’t care 😅I did catch a wild ps5 though that was fun it was midnight and it was a random Amazon drop
I used to have a secret for new console releases. Here we'd have people camped out at walmart for a day or so for the ps3 and the wii releases. Then they would sell out and scalpers would be selling them online. I'd just walk into Target that first day when they opened and buy one, because before bots could buy online, nobody went to Target for electronic stuff. Got my PS3 day one, and a wii the 2nd week when the craze was just getting insane to find one. Just had them on the shelf and picked it up. I miss those days.
I always get excited when you ask "what's up?" But then I'm disappointed when I say "nothing much," and then I ask "what's up with you?" But you don't answer.
This makes me want a monthly News Wave Live, where Jon and Evan get up to stream at 8am EDT to go over the news in a longer, interactive format, while still uploading the regular News Wave episode for the day for those who watch/listen regularly.
If a delay in getting a physical release means that I'll get a disc with a day one patch on it, then I'm all for it. I'm happy to wait a bit to have a better offline copy that I can return to down the line.
Yeah waiting around for the morning release for the new Wii was crazy it was cold and had to wait all night in the freezing cold with my friends but it was a memorable experience and I don't know if we'll ever get that back again that camaraderie and anticipation we used to get for a new console release
For your question of the day I think you need to do another age poll. It would be nice to see your age demographic for all these questions. I am 37 and I feel like your age demo is closer to 30
Minecraft on the GameCube is really cool but I’m even more excited by the prospect of a potential Minecraft Wii Edition with pointer aim and you gotta shake the nunchuck to break blocks.
Never been to a midnight release, but have pre-ordered and picked it up at 8am on the way to work. We then spent the day at work playing on the Wii. Good times.
I remember Nintendo higher-ups (I believe Kimishima, maybe Miyamoto) said it will be a 100 million unit seller. I thought it would be a modest success of 60 million, at most 80 million after the dismal sales of the Wii U.
None, especially not Nintendo themselves had dared to predict that Switch will outsell Wii U by 130m in less than 7,5 years... and the numbers will only continue to rise.
Nintendo couldn’t have predicted how successful the Switch would be but they knew that they had to hit the ground running with the Switch from day 1 and they also knew that many people doubted the Switch would be successful.
I hate split releases BUT I would rather them come out and say digital now and physical on x, that way you can choose if you want to double dip or not. Cuts out the guesswork.
Why would you buy a crazy taxi online game when GTAVOnline exists and GTAVI is on the horizon? This was one of my favorite games but I don't see the proposition I'd take just a modern but single player crazy taxi, even on the AA budget
I was a big fan of crazy taxi back in the day, but the moment they said massively multiplayer online I thought I'm out as I don't play online, I'm not subscribed to any of the online services.
A live service game . I understand those game are hipe and trinding but we actually don't like them. Come on Sega your not in the position to make domb moves like this. Just look into your own history for god sake. We can still play the OG Crazy Taxi today, give this game a decade or less, if that depending how it fairs when released, and the servers are going to be shutdown. Could take Sega with it.
19:05 I did vote. But the closest I came to a midnight release my local best buy announced a release of PS5 and Xbox series 1s during the hight of scalpers. You actually had to wait in line and they handed out tickets/cards to guarantee that you had a reservation. Store opened at 8 I was in line at 5. 2 ahead and 2 behind were there for Xbox so not a lot comraderie except talking about past consoles. Mostly us talking about Nintendo.
To this day I've still YET to purchase a single Playstation title on PC and don't plan to either. Calling it now, this is all a part of Sony's plan to eventually have their own (required) PC storefront for their own 1st party titles.
You did it to your self because of digital sales and the "success" of the switch lite switch 2 wont be backwards compatible and carts are going away because you cannot put new gen games of 64gb carts plus those "big carts" are very expensive.
You say "more modern games" being ported to older consoles, but Minecraft first came out closer to the release of the GameCube than it did to today, way back in 2009.
Crazy Taxi as live service game is going to be disappointing for me if they are going the live service route with it and i'm hearing the are doing the same thing with Jet set Radio as well. They should give us a remaster collection of the old ones if that's how they want to do them.Sega might end killing these IPs permanent by doing them live servce..Later
One of the hidden problems with scalpers that most people don't realize is it also hurts software sales. I mean if you can't get a hold of the system to play a game then why are you going to buy the game. Honestly it's something most developers don't even think about when it comes to Launch titles.
I sold my MiG switch cart on eBay a month or so ago since I had no need for it without the dumper and got a copyright infringement notice from Nintendo via eBay. I got a very strongly worded message warning me to never sell a product like that again, so Nintendo is going after sales of them everywhere
One of the most important features I would like for the switch 2 is backwards compatibility and an option for Nintendo’s first party games get an upscale, want to play xenoblade and Metroid 4 in a better quality
They need to come up with a gameplan so scalpers are getting screwed. Developers were scared to release games because half the PS5’s that were sold are in there boxes waiting to be sold from scalpers.
I think its just safe to assumed that any game published or developed from Sony is going to need a PSN account moving forward. It seems like this is their way to gather numbers for their shareholders.
Only way to really stopped scalpers is to get a price regulation that doesn't allow product to be sold for higher then a set price and seeking legal action against anyone selling it at higher price. Example if sold for $399.99 in NA then going after anyone selling for $410.99 or above. Or forcing owners to have register console online in the store they buy it in, and match consoles to CCs
It's more than a little ironic hearing Nintendo say they want to produce a "sufficient number" of consoles to meet customer demand. They failed horribly at that with the NES Classic, and when the Amiibo craze was going on, it almost seemed like Nintendo was intentionally limiting supply to create more demand. Which is exactly what they did with Super Mario 3D Allstars.
The Amiibo shortage was caused by the west coast port strike, while 3D Allstars was still available on store shelves until early 2023 due to overprinting.
NES Classic was because they didn't think people would buy them because people use emulators. You see people think Nintendo knows less about the internet than they think they do, Reggie practically stated that.
@SakuraAvalon Please, when it comes to consumers it's a lot of, "think you do, but you don't". Consumers in the past have proven to be all talk, no action and that's something companies won't risk money on. This is why Capcom hasn't made another Darkstalkers.
Yesterday, I was like "Switch 2? Obviously day one !" for no reason I just switched to "If retro-compatible, yes, day one. If not, let's see the launching games first."
You know that's a good point it's not like games can't do first and third person. GTA can do it, ratchet and clank can do it. Seems weird that Resi can't.
I waited 2 straight days in a line in the winter sleeping in a tent to get the Wii. There was about 200 other people in the line once the store opened and they only had 100 consoles. It was mayhem!
Wassup Jon(SW). I am not surprised Nintendo is going after the MIG Switch. It's always really cool seeing Newer Games get that Demake Treatment for Older Systems. Yh I don't think the PSN Sign-in for Concord will be that big of a deal, cuz I can't see it being a big hitting Game. Yep get as many Switch 2 Units ready and available at Launch, whether it's 5m or 6m not sure but as much as possible. Crazy Taxi being an Open World Online Game could be pretty fun, not sure if it'll be worth the 70 Bucks tho. Capcom Next was pretty decent, DR:DR is defo Day One for me and probably a Double Dip with the Physical Release aswell, RE7: iOS Version I'm not interested in but the next RE Game is sounding like it'll be First-Person and similar too RE7 in Scariness aswell. Path of the Godness looks very interesting, I'll try n check out the Demo but this Game seems like a Pickup when it goes Cheaper. Good Poll, never been too a Midnight Release, when I did go top Stores too Pickup Games, I would have it Pre-order and go in the following day rather than wait in line. Nice Comment, sounds a fantastic time 👍.
I'm excited for the possibility of any Mega Man news, but I'll realistically predict another janky Mega Man costume for Street Fighter 6 and some kind of Resident Evil game as the secret reveal.
It's up to how powerful "SW2" is. I still believes that "SW2" is a small upgrade over Switch, like 2x more powerful. BUT if "SW2" is indeed at PS4 level which is about 5x over Switch, or even past PS4, and that "Switch 2" is still a hybrid console. So Nintendo HAVE to prepare an insane amount of units then. It will break every records available. But I still thinks "Switch 2" will have 6GB or 7GB RAM, around 800GFlops, 850p-900p screen.
nintendo sues mig "switch" distributors - ha, i knew this bound to happen. minecraft is being ported to gamecube and dreamcast - that's cool, i guess. nintendo and their next system scalping thoughts - hope nintendo could counter them and still have enough for everyone. capcom next roundup - resident evil in 3rd person like classic re4, 5 , 6, 2 remake, 3 remake and 4 remake are fun to play. poll - no.
Why would you wait for a new Game comes out, if we have ALOT of Games to play already? Im sure that many ppl are existed to play a new Game, but most of them don't get finished.
Concord will require PSN? Well, this game is good as dead if it isn't already. PSN will only reduce the amount of players. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be scalped O_o? I don't want that to happen. I already lost enough sleep trying to get a PS5. I wasn't able to get a PS5 before Rift Apart released. If it wasn't for the pandemic I may have gotten one when Rift Apart was released since the hype may have died down a bit. 16:47 I did hear someone mention that an NPC that they were trying to rescue died because they somehow got left behind. I don't like FPS games. I didn't pick up Resident Evil 7 and 8 because of it. I did notice the internet going crazy over giant vampire mommy. I tried getting Triforce Heroes or Majora's Mask 3D at midnight but they didn't have it. I didn't bother trying again. 69% NOICE! Mike Matei had an interesting story about getting the Game Cube and rolling under the door as it opened. He said no one else did this.
My wife will not be happy with me during the Switch 2 generation... I have an o.g. Switch (came in a year late to the party though), OLED Switch, Switch Lite Zacian and Zamezenta, OLED Scarlet and Violet. Will most likely be putting more into the Switch 2 iterations. May have to pick up another job to pay for my addiction.
1:00 Soooo, Nintendo you're saying the Switch 2 will have a Switch 1 type game cart slot? Got it! Where you have smoke you have fire, just sayin. 🤔 5:50 I expect the same issue getting the new (Switch 2) system when it releases. It took me about 6 months to finally get my Switch 1 after the release. Will they be able to keep scalpers at bay? I very highly doubt. I'm still looking forward to getting my Switch 2 asap, I have my $💰ready Nintendo!
Oh wait, you said game system, I thought you meant new games in general, yeah I never went to a midnight release for a new console because after the Red Ring of Death on the 360, I never trusted brand new consoles since then, I want to make sure the system is fully functional before I buy it
