Lol probably not anymore. Now all these games are gonna be more expensive. Not hating, just a usual trend. I love the wii so get ur games while you can.
I actually liked what Metal J did with this hidden gems video because some are already pricey so you can say he made the prices rise up. it’s really not him and I’ve blamed him once in an earlier video but it’s really not his fault and I feel bad I accused him of it, he’s just talking to us gamers but unfortunately there’s also scalpers that watches these just to go buy em all up. But yeah Gamestop has a few of these and they are really good. I snagged my copy of pandora a few weeks ago for $20 at gamestop. Great game!
Some of my favorite hidden gems are. Phantom Brave Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love Castle of Shikigami III Tatsunoko vs Capcom Epic Mickey Muramasa: The Demon Blade Klonoa Sin & Punishmenr: Star Successor No More Heroes 2 Wario Land: Shake It Pandora’s Tower MadWorld The House of the Dead: Overkill
I played COD WaW exclusively on the Wii back in 2008 as I couldn't afford powerful next gen consoles like the 360 and PS3, so back then playing Call of Duty on the Wii was all I knew. Looking back, it was a great, unique, and memorable experience ^_^.
I'd say Opoona is a game I don't see mentioned much, Rodea the Skysoldier is another interesting one that was released on the Wii U with a dual pack that contained its original superior Wii version making it a weird kind of last "real" game released on the Wii if we don't count Just Dance every year.
ManlyBadassHero Good call on Opoona. Klonoa, Bit Trip Complete, Geometry Wars Galaxies, Ultimate Shooting Collection, and The Sky Crawlers are a few other great games that are often overlooked.
heh, funny u should mention that. I was actually one of the lucky ones to get a first run copy of rodea on release, as I had already knew about it since it was originally announced for the Wii a few years prior. Plus it was a game that yuji naka heavily worked on so I knew I had to have it!
HE DID IT. HE PRONOUNCED KAMEN RIDER CORRECT. You don't know how rarely thst happens with bigger RU-vidr. and just giving the franchise more attention is awesome. There were more for this series on the Wii, Japanese only. And the shows are awesome too
One of the really positive things about the fact the Wii was underpowered,I think, is that it gave an outlet for developers that wanted to focus more on gameplay than overwhelming graphics engines and yearly-release shooters. It's just too bad that those were buried under mountains of shovelware.
Overall, yes. It's an exaggeration to call it an overclocked GameCube, but its specs are trash. However, I do like the Wii's form factor, the easy alternative it offers to buying component cables for a GameCube, and most of all the UI for the system. The XBOX 360's pins are a headache to put in the order you wanted, and the PS3 only allows you to sort apps into folders, not put them in a set order. Wii and Wii U were both VERY good at allowing you to customize where everything was laid out.

Which console would you say is the best for on-rail shooters? Wii is pretty good, but the accessories are a bit odd and not all of them work with every on-rails game that the wii has (top shot elite is one example). I just ordered a "perfect shot" by Nyko, but the design was worse (less comfortable) than the no-brand 3-d printed ones I ordered from amazon. I like the idea of a two-handed gun (i hate the wii zapper) because your hand/arm can get tired after holding it for a short while
A lot of games I never would have even heard of if it weren't for your hidden gems videos. These are always a treat. And I like how you can suggest a game that may not be perfect but has the fun factor which most game review sites stay far away from. Thanks dude!
I'm glad you mentioned Pandora's Tower. That and The Last Story got overshadowed by Xenoblade Chronicles, which is unfortunate because all three are great. I'd also recommend the Wii beat em up, Spyborgs, especially if you're in PAL territory because the version they got is technically a later version of the game that balanced the A.I. much better.
Ryuko Chan! I need to go back and finish all three games. I spent 30 hours with Xenoblade and then ended up moving and didn't pick my place back up when I got to my new house years ago so I may end up starting over. I'll probably play the other two first though.
I have a collection spanning PS1, SNES, and Gameboy to PS3 and Switch, and I've never spent a cent on dlc. I never will, either. If you're a developer and have more content you are going to release and charge money for after people already bought your game, my attitude is "well, I guess that extra content must not too important if you didn't think it was worth including on the cartridge/disc." Otherwise you'd just make a part of the complete game everyone buys. Seriously. Fuck dlc. Fuck non-physical game formats, too. Maybe I'll start buying digital if my physical games literally deteriorate into being non-functional, but so far literally everything I own, even cartridges from the late 80s, still works flawlessly. I could rant so much about game industry practices.
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars is a hidden gem on the wii and overall a very underrated fighting game. If you're a fan of the Versus (series) Capcom games or fighting games in general, definitely check that one out!
I completely agree about Gormiti and Generator Rex. They're both keepers in my collection. If you like them, I highly recommend Secret Saturdays: Beasts of the Fifth Sun. I enjoyed that game so much that I tracked down the cartoon which is pretty awesome too.
I've just posted a video showcasing some downright bizarre Wii games - I hope you enjoy it - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xQWNU9hNH2s.html
I appreciate you showing love for the Wii, and really showing what any given platform or console has to offer. There seems to be a collective blind ignorance when it comes to the Wii, and looking at your past collection of Wii hidden gems, I instantly spotted two of my all-time favorite games for any console. Those are Sin And Punishment: Star Successor and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Your channel will always be my speed, as I am an open-minded gamer, just trying to find fun games to play.
Wooowww!!! Looking for Wii hidden gems was how I found this channel 5 years ago (back when I got my Wii) and your channel has only got better through all this years Thanks for all your passion and dedication Jason
I absolutely the Wii coverage! So many people dismiss the Wii as a gimmick, but there's so many amazing games that never get talked about. I play them on my Wii U with HDMI, it's awesome!
keep putting out these videos man, love being reminded of all the great games right under our noses. I mean most these you can find for as low as a dollar its crazy
Some of the really good and interesting Wii games came out in Europe only, like Disaster: Day of Crisis, Project Zero 2: Wii Edition and Another Code R. I highly recommend you check them out.
I stayed away from the Wii for many years but decided it was the right time to pick one up a few years ago. I was very surprised on how many fun games were available and actually enjoyed the unique controls the Wii can offer. Also, a great plus is that so many games are cheap so it's easier to jump in and get started.
That Shiren the Wanderer game reminds me a ton of the Pokémon mystery dungeon games. Those games are sweet. Can't wait to check it out and all the other games. Thanks for the sweet video Metal Jesus.
First up is Torneko no Daibouken which is spinoff series from the character in Dragon Quest Ⅳ. Shiren gave birth in 1995 as a second mystery dungeon game after Torneko and has now 8 titles in various consoles. Compared to both games made a significant influence in popularity in Japan, Pokemon mystery dungeon is nothing but just a baby. Plus, Torneko and Shiren are much more deeper even in gameplay. Oh, I almost forgot. Besides those games, there is Chocobo's mysterious dungeon series made by Square and Banpresto.
I really like your channel. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MY Wii U. Some people don't realize that you can play on it hundreds of old school games, from the NES (I was a teenager when this platform came out and thanks to the Wii U I am able to relive great times) onward.
It's probably not considered a hidden gem, but Tatsunoko vs Capcom was a Wii exclusive and is one of the very best fighting games ever made. At one point they lost the license for Tatsunoko and stopped producing them (not too long after the game originally came out, couple of years maybe)
*A word of advice regarding Pandora's Tower* The NA version (not the JPN or PAL ones) has a game-breaking bug that happens randomly. In short, the last "level" is actually 2 interconnected towers and there is a good chance that you will need to go back to heal Elena. The bug occurs as the game doesn't seem to know when to load a certain cutscene when you're about to return to the towers, freezing the game and prompting a reboot. What's more concerning is that due to its random occurence, XSEED games themselves don't know HOW to fix it, thus they cannot patch it or re-release it. For my part, the bug happened 2 times... and then the game didn't glitch again. Now, I know that the game was released on the Wii U eShop, but I do NOT know if the bug is still present.
I love first person shooters on the wii! Red Steel 2, Goldeneye 007 and Metroid Prime 3 are my favourites. I tried Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on the wii and the controls were solid enough but for me the framerate was far too low for me to consider it playable.
Goldeneye 007 is the only FPS game on console I've ever finished. I finished Modern Warfare on DS once, but I never got it for the Wii. I wanna pick up The Conduit some time but I'm dedicating all my resources into buying a gift for someone.
Same! I actually went back and watched his light gun video a few days ago and it inspired me to go pick up a few games in the video from a local game store later today! Now I just need to track down the zapper....
It's weird to me to hear about a Heavy Fire game being good. I have Heavy Fire: The Chosen Few for 3DS and I think it's crap lol I didn't know there were any good ones out there, I just figured they were all terrible after the one I got. Interesting vid thanks man
I agree it looks worth a fiver, especially considering I spend 20 dollars on the crappy 3DS game lol Hopefully I can catch you at the missouri game con, I'll give you the game i'm talking about if you want it, just in case it comes in handy for a future video or something. Unfortunately at the moment it looks like I won't be able to make it because of family but my fingers are crossed.
It is amazing, the Wii that is. They had such a collection of rare and great games, just not publicized the way it should have. I was one of those that bought a Wii when it came out, and saw it as a glorified Gamecube, and shoved it away. Very surprised in what it has and can do. Thanks MJR!!!
Everyone owned a Wii at some point when that was a thing and because of that people aren't afraid to release games on the system. Because companies know their product will sell well. Like with a lot of commonly owned game systems, the Wii, PS2....
The best game on the Wii is in my opinion No More Heroes, which also doubles as one of my favorite games of all time. Fantastic gameplay, amazing characters, a mind-blowing soundtrack, and lots of symbolism, this game is a must-play. And the sequel, also on the Wii, is also an absolute masterpiece that anyone should give a try!
If you like Shiren the Wanderer, Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo's Dungeon, also on the Wii, plays very similarly. There are actually a lot of them for a variety of franchises on consoles from the Wii all the way down to the SNES. I've seen Dragon Warrior (Talloon/Torneko), Final Fantasy (Chocobo), and even Pokémon, and each franchise is tweaked to play just a little differently; the franchise is called Fushigi na Dungeon or Mystery Dungeon. Also, I've been on the fence about Pandora's Tower for a long time, now, but seeing it in action has finally convinced me.
Never expected to see a Kamen Rider game here, Jason. You should probably check Kamen Rider Climax Heroes series that were also released for the Wii. It's japanese, but it plays the same way as KRDK.
I'm rewatching these. I might go to a flea market soon. Honestly I have no problem dropping $2-4 on something that could be decent. And besides, all the rare nes games were overlooked.
I always look forward to seeing games people never played before. I have half of these you have mentioned. Always thank you for making videos. I have a library to check out with games so I will let you know
Pinball Hall of Fame the Gottlieb Collection and especially the Williams Collection work particularly well with Wii motion control for nudging the M/C and flipper separation on Wiimote and nunchuck. One of the best pinball simulations ever!
I watched the previous 3 Wii Hidden Gems videos and was surprised you haven't mentioned Dreadly Creatures or Fragile. Both are great games that didn't get much recognition.
Thank you for making these Wii Hidden Gems videos. The Wii is somewhat underated imo, as people tend to think that the Wii is a complete dumbster fire, with not much of anything worth playing. These videos really help showcase that there is other games worth playing on it. I currently own quite a few titles myself, some of which you've shown in past videos, and a few I've bought along the way. Yes the Wii has garbage to dig through, but if you can spend the effort to do that, then you might just be surprised what's buried in the lot. And that makes the Wii one of the best hidden gems consoles imo.
Loved the Wii for horror games, really enjoyed Calling. It went beyond using your Wiimote to try and mess with you, later on it even starts to send messages to you through your Wii inbox. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Project Zero 2: Wii Edition were also great horror games for the system.
Great shout out for the Zapper when playing the CoD games on the Wii! I love playing FPS games with the Zapper. Like you said MJR, it's a one-of-a-kind experience only found on the Wii (and Wii U). Good call.
Haha no, even if you were serious I wouldn't care. You just made me realize I should switch it since I was thinking about it long time ago! Its way too old. Now, since we're friends, go ahead and subscribe to me, thanks! :D
I'm new to Wii collecting. I mainly got it to play De Blob again, but I've been amazed at the library for it. I've been a playstation guy for the most part of the past 20 years so a lot of these titles are new to me and I'm having a blast playing through them!
I'm surprised not all the Operation Rainfall games made it on the list. I suggest Xenoblade Chronicles, and The Last Story. You've already done Pandora's Tower, so that's one down.
Hey you mentioned Fatal Frame, my ultimate Wii hidden gem is Fatal Frame 4. Only released in Japan (and I know you don't do imports in these roundups, right?), there's a great community story behind it. Some extremely dedicated fans not only translated the entire story to make subtitles, and all the in game text with new graphics where necessary; they also made an SD card loader that allowed us to play a legit, imported disc copy of the game on an unmodded Wii. Amazing work. The game is excellent. Unfortunately the controls are quite bad and the story doesn't come together quite as well as say, 1 and 2 (not sure how much of that is down to the original or lost in translation). But it looks and sounds awesome and the atmosphere and scares are up there with the high points of the series (which puts it among the best in the genre). Despite its issues I'd say second best in the series after FF2 Director's Cut. btw, Pandora's Tower looks ace! Never heard of it, looks like one I would've bought if I was aware. Love the little zoom view for the chain.
RandomThoughtGuy - I remember and I am so happy I was very opened-minded to pay for the game. I never beat it, I still own it, but I had a great time getting through 45% of the game. I remember fighting a huge bird or something and it was flapping it’s wings and my cat ran to the TV screen to paw at it.
Very nice. But if you haven't already, I would suggest finding Ultimate Shooting Collection. Yes, that name is as generic as can be, but what this collection has is three arcade top-down shoot-em ups: Radio Allergy, Karous and Chaos Field. All three of these were ported to the Sega Dreamcast in Japan in the mid-2000s but those versions are rather rare at this point. However, this collection for the Wii can often be found pretty cheap. And you can use the Wii Remote, the Classic Controller or a Game Cube controller if you are more comfortable with that. A great collection for the shmup fan! EDIT: maybe not so cheap: while I got mine awhile back for $5.99 Ebay tells me it's shot up a bit.
Theodore Relic Great game. It's not that cheap anymore and pretty difficult to find. I picked up a complete copy at Gamestop in March for $23, only because some kid traded it in a few weeks prior. Youll be hard pressed to find that game cheaper than $40-$45 online these days.
Yeah, after I typed that I looked around on Ebay and noticed it's not really cheap anymore. I bought mine back in 2010 for $5.99 at the Gamestop I got my Wii at, and it was still going for less than $10 as late as last year. Guess people discovered it on their own, because I haven't seen any big-name reviewers talk about it.
Theodore Relic You lucked out getting it so cheap. I would have never have known about it unless I did some major research. Reviews are almost non-existent. I think the generic title threw people off for a while until they started figuring out what the game actually contained.
Yeah, I was just looking for something to play on my (then-new) Wii when I stumbled on it. When I looked at the title I didn't think too much until I flipped it over and noticed they were all shmups I heard were on the Sega Dreamcast in Japan.
Some of Wii games that I really enjoy but doesn't seem like many people played or know about them: Dokapon Kingdom (with 2 or + players), Flingsmash, Rabbids go Home, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Tetris Party Deluxe, Wipeout (this one is so bad that it's good).
for myself, watching metaljesus' wii related videos are more enjoyable than actually playing any wii games except for resident evil 4, at least from my experience. felt so good when i sold most of my wii stuffs early this year. yet, it is fun to watch any wii related videos lol.
My wii hidden gem is probably Rodea the Sky Soldier; it didn't even get its own case, it was bundled in with the game of the same name for the Wii U (though the wii and wii u versions are pretty much different games altogether). It's one of the only games I've played where I feel like the motion controls actually help it be easier to control and more fun. It feels a bit like a mix between Sonic and NiGHTS, two of my favorite series, so I would definitely recommend you try it out (the wii u version is no good sadly)
Kamen Rider rules, and I’m sure I’m not the only one of your fans who thinks so. I had no idea there was a Wii game for the series! Funnily enough, there’s one for Sega CD, too. I only know that because I saw it in a local shop. Not sure what the gameplay on that one is like!
Pandora’s is great besides the game breaking bug in the Game that was never patched in the American version it involves the final 2 towers it will cause the game to freeze completely if Nintendo remastered Pandora’s tower and the last story I’d be eternally greatful
Hi, Mr MJ! I just brought back a Wii and a bunch of great games. Thanks you for helping me to make choices with your videos about Wii games. I think I have an interesting Idea to submit... I really love the motion control... That's the specificity of this system and it's really fun but... Would you please make another video with the best games that are playable with a traditionnal gamepad (like the beautiful red Wii pro pad that I'm about to purchase...)? I'm sure there will be a lot of fighters and shooters (I like them too...) but I really hope you'll be able to surprise me and make me discover more new great tittles. Thank you for your work and keep on rockin'!
You should probably check out Disaster: Day Of Crisis as well. The storyline is pretty ridiculous, basically giving the game designers an excuse to throw all sorts of natural and man-made disasters at your character, but the game switches seamlessly from third-person adventuring, to mini-games, to driving, to light-gun shooting. And the light-gun sections are pretty awesome with cover mechanics and a "focus meter" rewarding quick and precise aiming. I play through it again every couple of years and enjoy it every time.
Hey man. I just wanted to tell you that I finally subcribed to your channel after watching your content for ages now :D I really like your content and the way you present your content. Plus you seem like a very decent dude AND your videos are swear free. I appreciate that 🤗 Keep up the great work 👍 Take care 🙋
Wii had so many awesome games that most people had no idea existed. Oh and those Wii CoD games were my favorite console iterations thanks to the controls.
Just watched all 4 videos..and I'm surprised you never got "the conduit." It was an odd FPS game, but it was fun and had some interesting mechanics. And the multiplayer was fun! It had a lovely system where the map selection wasn't majority rules, but instead, it was essentially a hat draw with everyones votes. I liked that, since so many times in fps multiplayer games, it's nuketown VS any other map. And every time, we go to nuketown. Even if it is a small percentile chance we go to the map I want, I like the variance this system could add to the map select.
What is considered a hidden gem on the Wii? At the end of the video MetalJesus brings up the CoD games on the Wii for example, which are just ports but I may count it because the motion controls make them unique ports and come on, the Wii is great for shooters. I think Resident Evil 4 should fall under this umbrella as well, IMO it's the best port since the motion controls elevate the game that much. Another game is Godfather Blackhand Edition, I'll admit I never played the other ports but I played this game multiple times, it's a solid open world third-person shooter on the Wii. (the plot is not bad either, it's freaking Godfather!) I wonder if MetalJesus ever played the Conduit series, an FPS series only on the Wii. If you never played the series, specifically the first game, be prepared for a *very difficult experience.*
Wow man! Thank you for this video! I recently pulled out the Wii and started playing see underrated titles like sin and punishment maramasa deamon blade! I wanted to find other games to start collecting and your video really gave me so much more excitement to start collecting! Sub button clicked! 🤘
Heavy fire looks cool, love the rail shooters on the wii. House of the dead, resident evil etc. I'll definitely pick it up and check out the call of duties too. Awesome vid as always 👍
Dear Metal Jesus. I have an idea. I'm tired of the bad reputation the Wii gets saying it's mostly for kiddies. Could you do a vid that shows great Wii games for more adult/hardcore gamers? Here is a list of this sort of games from the top of my head: 1- Resident Evil 4 2- The Conduit 1 & 2 3- Silent Hill Shattered Memories 4- Mad World 5- No More Heroes 1 & 2 6- Goldeneye 007 7- Dead Space Extraction 8- The House Of The Dead Overkill 9- Red Steel 2 10- Manhunt 2 11- Cursed Mountain 12- Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop 13- Metroid Prime Trilogy 14- Monster Hunter Tri 15- The Godfather: Blackhand Edition Thanks!
KWKBOX That’s an easy one, the whole console and %95 of its library is a hidden gem. But if you’re seriously looking, check these out....and better hurry up because they’re Eshop titles. Affordable Space Adventures (great couch co-op) Nano Assault Neo (killer twin stick shooter) Fast Racing Oddworld: New&Tasty (first game remaster) The Cave (adventure/puzzle) Dr.Luigi (puzzle) Art Of Balance (puzzle/physics) I can come up with more
ByteBlok _ Affordable Space Adventures is a frustrating, but awesome hidden gem. A nice take on a puzzle "metroidvania" I couldn't agree more with your list. I will add Teslagrad, although I know it is cross platform, it feels best on Wii U. Either way a hidden gem on all platforms.
