I like how they legit put little hints in the video.. like actually *encouraging* damage boosting is something I never thought I'd see in an official Nintendo video
well some still work for the company - all these years later! When i started years ago it was the thing i was in awe about - 'wait u used to do what a game counselor no way' - shout out to Marc the OG
@@schwim69 man those were super expensive. I just kept a notepad and took notes back then. Zelda 2 wasnt too bad to beat but did take a Go d bit of footwork...
@@joelockard7174 I was so young at the time and we were hard stuck on finding progress. It was the part where you have to chop the forest to find the town! We made one call - the wait time was short in Aus at the time. I think we called them twice for Zelda 2 and once again for a game called Solstice. Was such a magical time discovering secrets through word of mouth and magazines.
The marketing of this game have been consistently top-notch. They're a neat way to tribute the console that started an impact of video games, even the event as well.
I used to call the Nintendo hotline all the time as a kid. These gameplay counsellors were legitimate next-level humans in my eyes. It was like talking to God and getting direct advice on how to kneel on a cliff to get a tornado to take you away while holding a red crystal. I am so entertained by their decision to recreate this in this video.
I'm surprised that call didn't go "Castlevania II: Simon's Quest? Step 1: Purchase Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. Step 2: Sell Simon's Quest to help cover the payment. That's all for now. Thank you for calling."
I can tell I'm old....I've played and still own for that matter every single game that's talked about here. I'm glad to see they're bringing back renewed interest for folks that didn't grow up with these games. It's this era that put Nintendo on center stage back in the 80s. They should never be forgotten but remembered and played. This will be a definite buy for me when it comes out.
@@joelockard7174 Oh yes, there's a psysical copy, and also a collector edition with a replica of a golden NES cartridge, some nice retro cards and nice stuff. Check it out
The trick was they had two different hotlines….one was the paid game advice line. The other was a free number where you could talk with someone about new releases coming out and other news. Every once in a while you could try calling the free line and smooth talk them about the news, then at the end “hey I have one more question if you don’t mind…I’m REALLY stuck here…” and the pro would actually answer it for free if it didn’t take too long and they didn’t have to pull out the game from the shelf. Ask me how I know 😂
Shoutout to these Ninten-Pros! I remember having to call a few times back in the day and no joke they really were game masters that knew these games inside and out.
0:16 1:48 3:15 Seeing the pictures of what they used to look like back in the day, I guess we all age just like you and me everybody in the comments. It’s sad that we can’t stay young forever.😔 But let’s not get all stressed out about it, Let the NES WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS NES EDITION GAMES…BEGIN!😄
Yeah, it was like this one guy on Miiverse who say “why cant metroid crawl” and ever since then it sorta stuck out in the gaming community. It’s crazy to think about and we don’t even know if that user knows he even created something this big in the first place. It is a good point though. IDK why Samus can’t crawl.
Yes they actually did back in the 80s and early 90s. You could call if you were stuck in a game. In an age before the internet, you either needed to own a magazine, a physical strategy guide, or call a hotline if you were stuck. By the time I was playing games I don't think the hotline still existed, but I remember having to use the Nintendo Power magazine and strategy guides for a few games. Now everything is just a quick google search away.
@@TheOneHamster If I recall it didn't actually cost anything but you did have to pay the long distance charges unless you lived in Redmond, WA where it was a local call. Man, remember long distance? 😁
I remember back in the mid 90s I called the Nintendo power hotline, I found the number in Nintendo Power Magazine lol, but I neglected or just didn't care to realize the call was per minute. Needless to say my dad wasn't happy when he got a $200 phone bill later on... Ah memories
Gotta say, even tho I wasn’t born around the 80s and grew up in the early 2000s, this is honestly a dream job every gamer wants to be in. I’m real jealous of the 80s folks living the dream of playing NES games, and giving out tips and guides throughout any game they know too well. But nowadays, the hotline is history thanks to the rise of the internet, then RU-vid with its walkthroughs.
So much nostalgia for this 46 year old gamer! I miss the late 80's and 90's when there was a Nintendo Power hotline and magazine! I called a few times (with mom's permission of course!) back in the day! Great ad!
I called the number (with permission, of course) a handful of times in the early 90's during the NES days. Even though I was 10, the counselors always treated me with respect, talked to me like I was an adult, and were patient enough with me to help me every single time. The calls usually took about 5-10 minutes. I have fond memories of those days. If I remember right (this was over 30 years ago), you called and there were presets for the more popular games, like if you need help with Zelda, push 1, for Super Mario Bros 3, push 2, and so on. I usually played RPG/adventure games back then that were a little tough for an 10 year old, so I always had to wait until the end after all the presets for "everything else". This was a fun nostalgic trip. The late 80's/early 90's were a magical time.
That's exactly why I love Nintendo, because they always remind me of my childhood! Thank you, dear Nintendo team, and all the best to you. A 40-year-old gamer now, and a Nintendo fan for 35 years! Greetings from Germany
Fantastic that Nintendo continues making software that celebrates the rich heritage of their beloved legacy games, especially one capturing the exciting World Championships held during their heyday. No other systems‘ classics have this level of nostalgic history, let alone the legendary and memorable Nintendo Hints Hotline.😌✨ “Now You’re Playing With Power”!⚡️
I love it when Nintendo gets silly like this and references mostly forgotten parts of their history. Between this, Starfy, and the new Famicom Detective Club, Nintendo's really been digging deep lately.
3:21 man the metroid miiverse callback, LOL! have my deluxe edition preordered can't wait to try my hand at speedrunning some of these nintendo classics!
Fun Fact their was a Nintendo power call scene in the 1989 Movie The Wizard i am suprised Nintendo still reffanced that film may not been good but in my opinion its a hidden gem
"You're having trouble with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Hold on, I know just the guy, lemme transfer you" AVGN: "You can just WALK OVER IT! Thank you, that'll be 500 dollars."
Back in the early 90's, we DID actually ring the Nintendo Hotline to find the 8th dungeon entrance in NES Zelda. No internet back then peoples! Once we knew we could burn bushes with the candle, it opened up the whole game for me lol. I was burning every bush in the game lol.
i don't know why they don't say it in the video, but the phone number for the hotline is 1-800-255-3700. Check out the back of your snes and nes carts, it's written on there.
