I don’t think so. Actually I had a friend who bought that game for me. When I brought it home my brothers asked to play it and I said please take care of it and when I came back the next day, it disappeared and I never saw it again.

@@GTV-Japan I think you should cover Rocket Knight Adventure at some point. The game is litterally a coperate mascott plattformer done to perfection! What do kids like? Swords? Knights? Jet Packs? Sunglasses? Animal masscots? Lets roll them all up into one that somehow still manages to be incredible fun to play.
Sorry to hear about your competition, that is utter BS they didn't give you another opportunity. I had a similar complaint with the Blockbuster Video Championships as a kid too, so I feel your pain.
No point in living in the past. Atleast you got to compete and that's more than most can say - and you clearly made memories to remember it all this time later (would love to see footage of that if it exists). 🙂👍

I'd say that there's something wrong with a competition that doesn't account for technical glitches. Some kid actively took out the entire competition and disqualified everyone playing. What would have happened if the power went out or there was an electrical surge or any other beyond the control of the contestants and hosts? The least they could have done is invited everyone back for a rematch or the very VERY least some consolation prize of some Mario toys or something.
Oh man I felt like a celebrity. The main stage was great! And I honestly was down for the count but got quick triples and a Tetris with like 4 seconds left 🏆
Do you think we’ll ever get a Nintendo switch compilation game? Other Nintendo consoles/handhelds as well don’t give up we probably will as Nintendo loves making money and hopefully physical media doesn’t die otherwise Nintendo would just release them on virtual console again
I personally would've preferred a NES Remix port. I loved some of the wacky challenges in Remix that are absent here. I would've been sooo angry at that kid that messed up your NES World Championship run if that were me in your shoes lol
Yeah I just don’t understand why they don’t port the entire game. Nearly nobody had a Wii U so nobody would notice and people love Wii U ports anyways. Even if it was repackaged as nwc the entire game was great as it was.

Modern day E-sports really stems from these kinds of competitions. Imagine if these tournaments were as big as the ones now, and the prizes were aimed beyond the average kiddy gaming prizes. Like actual money instead of scholarships or the entire product line of Nintendo through that year. Imagine the Mario themed energy drinks you'd find near the checkout of a computer repair and goods retailer. I used to love watching the little TV shows that had similar contests to this, only on a much smaller 20 minute scale. I think one show just offered to let the winner run around in a fake video store, grabbing as many game cart boxes as you could. And as a kid, that seems like it was good enough.
I adore all your content for multiple reasons (the well done research, the coverage of both the well known and obscure, the passion and dedication) but the personal stories really hit me on another level. 1990 was truly one of my favorite years in gaming, despite being only 6/7 it was an incredible time which can't replicated in really any fashion again due to the unique position Nintendo had in the market. I remember Mario Mania building up my hype so much that I would have dreams of how I imagined SMB3 would play, aside from the very well advertised racoon powerup I was very off base. My copy of Nintendo World Championships showed up yesterday and while I'm super pumped to get some great nostalgia going I'm currently in the middle of attending an anime convention so no real time to fit it in between panels. Still I did see a wonderful panel on the history of Nintendo from it's founding to the current day and it got my excitement for the Championships going even harder.

@10:18 The Microphone works in the versions sold with the Switch online membership, so I would expect them to also work here. I imported the pair 5+ years ago just to have the option to try the Japanese version of Zelda with the microphone.
The Switch can, in fact, connect 8 controllers (otherwise 8-player Smash Bros wouldn't have existed as far back as the Wii U). Obviously each controller only has 4 LEDs to show their virtual port number, so once you get to virtual port #5, you'll start seeing different permutations of two LEDs being lit at once.
Those gamecentre cx videos seem to be on the nintendo switch news section as well where they usually play newly released switch games. I think it's tied to the nintendo switch Japanese news channel.
Gotta love "World Championships" that only have 1 country enter. Considering how Nintendo consitendly updates games like Switch Sports I'm confident that we will get many more games and challenges added to this game. I'm super excited for the special edition and playing the game with my NSO controllers.

This is probably Nintendo's modern way of doing something similar with Super Mario Bros. 2 USA or Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island or Super Mario Land III - Wario Land: Make a sequel to a game that pushes the franchise forward. But for the NES Mini Remix.

Haha no! Only the winner of each city got one. Where I got eliminated was the quarterfinals where they took hundreds of kids and crushed their dreams super fast. Then there were about 20 or so who moved on from there one guy got the cart and it was given out long after I think.
I've been watching the Wii U exclusives slowly come to the Switch, but the remaining games have really frustrated me. This video reminded me of how badly I want NES Remix! The kid in me is freaking out over officially playing as Link in Donkey Kong or as Peach on SMB3.
I have never seen that show over here in western Japan. But man, I wish I had...so I just bought Beyond Good and Evil...looks like I need to buy this gem as well. Can you find this at Edion or Yamada denki?
My favorite NES/Famicom design is that second top loader/AV Famicom. I have always liked the gray/black/red color combo over the Famicom's red/gold/whitish look, but while the 1st NES' VCR look is iconic, I think the top loaders look better. Being able to use whatever controller I like (compared to the 1st Famicom) and sit as far away as I want doesn't hurt either.
It was a neat design. I think they were forced to conform to certain things to keep the look of the original FC to show that this was the same machine. the curves were nice but the red one reminds me of a kerosene tank
That is true! Nintendo seems to use the word in the sense of general 8 bit or retro games. Funny enough they removed “family computer” from the front of the machine on the box!
Yeah. There’s something in the copyright agreement that they can not call the actual hardware “famicom” sharp can have the twin famicom but legally for Nintendo it’s always Family Computer. Compound words kind of skirt this rule
So… I have all the NES Remix games downloaded but never played them. Should I play THIS game here on Switch first, be happy with it, then move on to the NES Remix games and enjoy them as an “upgrade”?😊

How does Nintendo NOT let you browse all of the results for the weekly Championship? I really wanted to see if us old farts that grew up with these games are better than the younger kids today.

that NWC story was kinda messed up! they seriously didn't throw the bum out and have a re-do? I did really like the concept of NES Remix, and ever since the Switch launched and really took off I always wanted to see nintendo do another one! Then this year they announced NWC 2024, which seems like mostly the same idea but re-themed after the classic competition! had to spring for the deluxe edition all of those extras sounded super cool!! fingers crossed my copy arrives tomorrow and I can't wait to start competing with other folks online!
Is there any way to get the Special Edition in the US? I really want to get it but the Nintendo website on the Japanese side only has Japanese Prefecters and no way to ship it outside of Japan. I already have the US version but I want the Japanese version for the controllers and the different box art and pixel art.

The NES Remix games had far more effort put into them than this new NWC game. Overal the new NWC game is okay, but my problem is that Nintendo basically took a game they made and made a worse version of it. They could've just ported NES Remix 1 + 2 and then added 3 to it. Or even better they could've made a SNES Remix instead. But nope, Nintendo chose to rehash the same old same old. Don't be a blind fanboy who buys any trash put in front of you have. Have some backbone and avoid lazy games like this.
