Matt D dunno mate, I haven’t played much after the first play through so I haven’t had the time to see how much it affects armour and if it affects light, medium and heavy differently. Team ninja is fucking up major and they need to make their game less of a fucking grind

Can you update this update please? I’m not sure where to put my points anymore and I heard there’s a passive skill once u hit 150 on a skill. I want to optimize this build and not dispurse Amrita aimlessly you know? Thank you for your time. I love this build. Used it all the way through NG++. I want to make it the best it can be in dream of the wise

@@christyler4705 I'll definitely do an update, but I've had lots of other things to do (including, you know, actually working for a living). Right now I've only had time to get through the first area of Way of the Wise, which I did just by updating my gear + scores and using the Stone of Penance to upgrade my accessories to ethereal. Some ideas have come to mind, but I need to test them out before bothering with an update. But, I'll get there eventually, even with the gazillion new games on the horizon that I also have to find time to play 🤷‍♂️

What are your thoughts on ditching conquerer for veteran's+benz grace for versatility?

​@@bblackinton No point switching as this build is synergized so any switch will hurt it, hot help it. What you're really talking about is a completely different build entirely. Versatility is good if you want to constantly switch skills/attacks all the time to get big damage stacks, but all steps towards increased damage are steps towards lower survivability. I've seen lots of impressive boss destructions with versatility builds, and I've seen those same players die often against mobs when trying to get to bosses. Highly skilled players who are always stance switching and know mechanics well will love it of course. Also, versatility locks you into having to always do varied attacks. If you decide to just be relaxed and chill and not stance switch or something, the build instantly becomes useless. But again, it's all about play styles. I experimented with switching out graces in this build and found it all made it worse. I settled on only changing ranged weapons for Hotei's grace to get the extra ki recovery. Even putting Hotei's grace on the Tonfa itself was something I tested, but you have to give up a stat on the weapon to do so, which just made it worse. Two Hotei's grace pieces added to ranged weapons is all I recommend for this build. Yes Relentless Tonfa does less damage than most other builds (at least, until you stack some buffs), especially compared to a versatility based build, but nothing compares to it for survivability. I ran through Dream of the Demon and never died once to a single boss even though I face tanked them all, never died once to a mob unless I had to drop my Rev for other people (and one time I had to jump up and answer the door and my character got killed while I was away lol). I only added the two Hotei's graces after I had completed Dream of the Demon with the base build and no upgrades. I'll be taking this into the next DLC as is - and the best thing about that is I barely have to grind a thing to keep it upgraded. The most you have to do is get some new soul cores, which I haven't done yet. But I'll do that before the next DLC ... probably. Whereas other builds constanlty need to be changed. Everyone running a versatility build now thought they had the perfect build in NG+ before they all got nerfed and everyone had to quickly find a new build. Same thing will happen in the next DLC, almost certainly. But Relentless Tonfa will be safe to keep on going 👍

@@bblackinton Cool and yep. Nioh 1 burned me out on the Nioh grind and I still had it going into Nioh 2. Even making Relentless Tonfa was a major ordeal because I tested everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. I tried every possible combination of gear and builds, all weapons, all spirits, everything, until I settled on Relentless Tonfa - and even then that took a grind. But I wanted it to be the only grind for a while. Fortunately I got it right...but I admit, getting new replacement upgraded soul cores is going to be a pain, though I'm not yet entirely sure how much of a difference they'll make. We'll see I guess. 👍

No probs and yes, Tonfa is great in Nioh 2 for sure.

There's almost certainly nerfs coming, but I'm pretty sure this build is pretty safe. Apart from the fact they might nerf poison, or maybe introduce more bosses that are immune to it, we'll see. But this build barely relies on poison so it's all good 👍 EDIT: They did nerf poison, but it barely affects this. Build still wrecks all the new content.

Thanks man! I probably would have posted more builds up to this point but I got sick and didn't really make any content (though I did go through making a ton of different builds). I pretty much just played with all kinds of builds from my death-bed lol before settling on this is my fav.

I hear ya man the lockdown helped me out i made one for every weapon but iv gone back to my old trusty dual swords. Master swordsman, golden gourd and moonprayer for me

I had Odachi as a fav before Tonfa, and before that Kusa. I played with swords for a little while but I think I was already bored with them after investing so much time in them in Nioh 1. I did like Hatchets, but I got bored of them real quick. Switchglaive is maybe my second favorite now though, because it's combo's are fun and it's heavy attack is kind of like a ridiculous magnet that hits enemies in maps you're not even playing yet lol.

I tested it and the answer is no, it's not near as good. To get the same healing benefit you need to be in low stance, which gimps your damage output. I can't talk about skills as I haven't tested them all, but the short answer is the split staff needs it's own dedicated build. That said, it works okay with this and it's pretty fun, so it would be tempting to swap it out and then slowly refine the build to suit the weapon.

Half way through Way of the Wise, juggling my time so it's slow going. Upgrading it as I go, and probably going to make some tiny changes ready for Way of the Nioh. Will post when I've done it, but I'm in no rush. Playing some other games atm!

I used Relentless Tonfa through NG++. I just made sure to invest into Stamina to counter the increase in armor +. I made sure to soul match higher level + gear as I got it. I didn't add more powerful soul cores or modify the build with graces at all, but if you're up for farming that would certainly help. I wouldn't though. Upgrading Relentless Tonfa will get you through NG++ easily. But after that you'll be wanting to think about a grace build I'd say.

Nope. I burned through Dream of the Demon like it was nothing with this build without changing a thing. The only change to make ready for the next DLC, once Dream of the Demon is done (or during, if you can be bothered) is to add two pieces of Hotei's grace as ranged weapons which will give an extra 7% Ki recovery when unscathed, and that's it. No other changes are necessary (or should be made), apart from just increasing your + stat as higher gear drops while you progress through the levels. Oh, and adding a scroll for some extra free stats, but that's kind of obvious. Easy peasy. EDIT: I guess you could re-roll gear to see if you can get some non-conflicting star stats, but I'm not going to do that. I want to limit the grind until ethereal gear drops. At that point I'll do a full gear refresh and revisit of what if any changes should be made.

You can't unless you trade now. Other wise it's just general active skills.

You can't get to A agility with this build, but as someone who loves A agility builds it's not something that has ever worried me since this build is so damn good. Als check the pinned comment for more details on how keeping at B agility is done post the DLC.

@@fuzzybearbarian i haven't had the patience to roll the pulverize man damage/inherit it onto armor, but i think it is REQUIRED...just because it deals a lot less damage than the build I had setup before: red demon mixed with Yoshitsune set, for max melee% damage bonus, plus fire imbued tonfa for 15% damage scorched stacked with Yatagarasu spirit guardian. That is one heck of a damage output light build for tonfa that I made! It focuses mainly on offense, but hey I bet if I mix in some of these defense ideas from your video, that will be the ultimate tonfa build! Thanks again mate! :)

Oh also for that build ^ I was an "Elder" ranking in the Sho clan, giving +44 tonfa damage. I was with Sho clan the whole game up until I watched your video! I was hesitant to say farewell and join the Toyotomi clan or whatever but that extra life recovery was worth the bit of less damage from the Sho clan for this build!

Not so far. This still enables you to run through everything. They only nerf that really affected this build was the nerf to poison damage (which was nerfed but not by enough to worry about), and this build doesn't rely on poison, it's just a bonus that in truth I rarely used anyway. However, it could be worthwhile substituting poison for water damage now, or substituting the Toxic Slime Core for something else too - maybe even something that just gives a base % increase to damage (like Ubume, which I think is a really fun soul core!). Not sure if any of the new cores offer damage reduction, which could also be good if one will fit (need to check this as I play more). Basically I need to play more and see what I think about any refinements, but so far after completing the DLC missions I'd say I achieved my goal of making a build that wouldn't be as affected by DLC nerfs as much as all the others. I'll pin a comment with any recommended changes as I come up with them though 👍

Honestly, however you want. There aren't really builds in NG. Builds start in NG+. NG is all about learning enemy mechanics. So spec for whatever gear/perks you want to support your Tonfa. Can't give any more advice than that other than to say all I did in NG was equip the ninja gear that drops early on and went with speccing for all Dexterity right from the start. It's a glass cannon build that way though that can get you into trouble with some enemies, so prepare to destroy fast or die fast if you go that route.

I should warn you though that there's a particular boss later in the game that makes a glass cannon build a nightmare. So if you can spec for a gear set that supports your Tonfa but that gives you some toughness > 200 that will be very helpful. I'd love to start NG again and see what I can work out for an early Tonfa build, but it's too much of a grind for me to do that. I don't think I could face starting again lol.

Builds don't really come together until much later. I would do a balance of stats, enough to use gear, enough to have some health, enough to have some damage (courage for tonfa). you'll want to just pump main stat for damage after you feel comfortable. You can always reset stats later too. Book of reincarnation can be bought with money or Glory at the tea house trader.

@@madbad9113 Thanks mate. I am LvL 84 now, and have stats like this. 23-7-21-33-6-6-15-15 Working on more Stamina as i got the smithy tekst for WOTEast Armor and for the Tombokiri spear pretty fast. So want to use that armor set, But the chest armor is to heavy right now, Not sure how many more point i need to put in on at stay at B Agility ? Being a great run to now, And i really like the Tonfa, And i try the spear, And it is all so good. Having a blast playing Nioh 2, Super game.(IMHO) Kindly.

The skill is Pulverise Man. It can only be rolled on light armor gloves and then inherited to other armor pieces. It's very hard to roll, so don't bother. Best way to get it is to go to Nioh 2 on Discord and go into the trade section and ask someone to drop it for you, then farm their Revenant to get it. I'd share it but I don't have a shareable version (all the one's on my armor have been inherited). However, you can skip that by rolling all your armor with active skill damage on it, which you can do by forging the armor set (save scum to do it, as in, don't waste your resources as it's hard to roll, you have to make a backup save file and reload it if you don't get what you want from forging). Pulverise Man is better as it's slightly higher damage, but it's harder to get unless you go to Discord and someone shares it with you. Just got to Discord. Will take you about half an hour that way and you'll have it all. Your soul cores have only two perks on them whereas mine have 3 because I've inherited a 3rd. You can get inheritable's by farming for mortal cores in The Brother's Blades (look up a guide on YT on how to farm mortal cores). It's time consuming, but it's still the fastest way to get stats you can inherit onto your 3rd soul core slot. For the skills you need to unlock, spam the crap out of all of your Ninja skills all the time. Only by using Ninja skills will you build up what you need to get the points to spent to unlock skills in the skill tree.

@@johng1316 Ah, you won't roll it anymore. A recent patch removed it from the game. Now you can only roll general active skill damage increases. Unfortunately these are slightly smaller in damage increases, though not by much, and essentially they do the same thing only slightly not as well ... although also arguably better since active skill damage applies to any skill you use rather than one. The only way to get this specific skill now is via Discord. You need the Nioh 2 trade channel, which is here: discord.gg/wWPrfY8u (that's for PC). I'd drop it for you if I had one I could share, but mine are all inherited at this point. Bear in mind that this build falls off midway through Way of the Nioh, so if you spend a lot of time making it, you'll end up replacing it half way through the very final region that came out with the final DLC.

I didn't do a new build because I honestly couldn't face the grind lol, though I did try and tweak it here and there wherever I felt I could, but nothing that I can remember that stands out as being worth any kind of grind. It got pretty hard without a build tailored for WotN though. But still, playing it like that led me to start a whole new game where I played through without any build or armor at all. Correct. That's Nioh 1 only now.

It's viable all the way through all regions so long as you keep soul matching your stuff (and read the pinned note for info about stamina changes), but once you get a bit of way into Way of the Nioh I recommend making tweaks for the trouble the extra difficulty brings or maybe starting a more appropriate build for the crazy hike in difficulty there.

You need -1 attunement. So you have to go a re-roll with Terry the big purple Sudama until you get -1. Then you infuse a 3rd stat onto it. Get Mortal Cores with an infuseable stat. These can be infused onto any soul core. The Brother's Blade is where you farm mortal cores.

Kind of yep, it's a skill called Focused Strike. It's pretty a pretty good skill as it can make enemies stagger and if hit again fall. Unfortunately I don't think you can make a build around it.

You have to get to NG+ and green (divine) gear will start dropping and/or can be forged.

What's the best or close mission to do to get the aromor pieces as well as the tonfas?

@@Giannis_Krimitzas Sorry kinda slacked off with Nioh 2, cos i started playing other stuff :) But up to the end of DotD it was doing perfectly fine, the hp regen is insane, just as long as you don't get one shoted you're fine :)

Since I am a pc user and started the game recently, I don't know if this is working in higher difficulties, if you can bring it in Underworld as well and more importantly if parts of it have been nerfed. It seems like you don't have any problems and you are not even there concerning the completion of the affixes on items. So I will give it a fair shot.

Yes, you're right! Interestingly, I went through the Katana skills when I first made this build and I'm sure there was no charge icon on Tiger Sprint. Either they added it later or I just somehow brain farted on it, I don't know. But yep, you're dead right, nice pickup!

@@rafaelrogalski1425 Yes, exactly. But forging them is a certifiable NIGHTMARE. Go to Nioh 2 Discord and go into the trading chat. Someone there will have it and can drop it for you. I don't have it otherwise I'd trade (all of mine are inherited). Make sure they add you on PS4 to make sure you can farm their Revenant to get all 5. If you end up with not enough, feel free to hit me up and drop it for me so I can dupe it for you (as in, so I can drop it for you again). But yeah, don't bother trying to forge it. You'll get someone to help you in Discord pretty quickly, but as far as forging goes, you'll be save scumming 24/7 for the next month.

@@fuzzybearbarian Honestly I just replace the guardian spirit with Hyobishin. His stats are kinda similar and the dispel ailment 30% from strong attack might be useful in a tanking build in ng++

@@namarrstrickland3746 I tested every single Guardian Spirit at length - every single one. Hyobishin is definitely a waste, don't bother. You're ability to tank damage will reduce, your defense will go down, the extra brute damage is nice but in turn you lose the anima bonus from taking damage that helps this build utilize the brute abilities frequently in the first place, and the dispel ailments is practically useless because first you need a situation where you actually get ailments, and second you get a 1/3 chance of dispelling them, all by the time of which the enemy will already be dead. Also, purity removes status effects off enemies and you'll be applying it all the time, which in turn often eliminates the enemy's ability to use any buff they have for putting an ailment on you in the first place. You'll still get ailments, but most of the time they mean nothing. Atlas Bear is the only Guardian Spirit worthy of swapping in and out of this build, and only if you're farming and want more attack output and aren't worried about the reduction in damage support.

@@namarrstrickland3746 Yep. You don't even need to go Yokai Ability damage if you don't want to. It's also a great build if you swap that for extra dark realm melee damage. I played with both for a while and liked both, but settled on more hulk smash in the end. So look for drops for either and just equip the best version of each until you get what you actually want in the end. It's a big grind though. Soul cores suck. However, if you add me as a friend on YT I'll drop my rev in a dark realm. That gives you a chance to get my soul cores. I have inherited a lot of stuff, but you'll still get a good start that way. Up to you mate but happy to help out for sure.

Fair enough, but just so you know if you're not going to spend most of your time in mid stance then this build isn't the way for you.

Not really I'm afraid. I only just started back on Nioh 2 and the ki destroying builds I used to know are nerfed now I think. Sorry, I need to get back in the game more to get more up to date with what works now (which is why my new run is armor less so I don't have to think about builds lol).
