Picking the right nippers for scale modeling is not an easy task. On the market, there are many options, featuring various qualities, features and flaws.
This is my perspective on the matter, sharing my experience while building my second modeling bench.
Prices mentioned in the video vary. The ones I am quoting are the ones I have paid and according to my local availability. Depending on whether you are in US, EU or Asia, you can get different offerings.
Here's the tools that I recommend:
General Purpose Cutters -
These are for cutting sprues, chains, resin & more:
amzn.to/43huXnN
This is the set from which I took the blue handles in the video:
amzn.to/3IHePUb
Plastic parts cutters:
Cheap range - Nanye and Nanye-like:
amzn.to/3BYa4Ca
Mid-range:
Master Tools (Trumpeter) 09968 - amzn.to/3Mxeg0k
High-end range:
Tamiya 74035 - amzn.to/3oszrZO
Tamiya 74123 - amzn.to/3OFHxJ7
Best Nippers Ever (IMHO) - amzn.to/3qhMrC1
My other Best Pick (Not shown in the video, used on my other bench) - amzn.to/3qgTj2s
I believe every serious modeler should have either DSPIAE or GodHand just for the pleasure of using those. Tamiya are wonderful tools, which I also highly recommend and also trust, that are a must.
I'll be more than happy if this video helped you!

Hi Mitko Great little review mate. As an ex heavy vehicle mechanic we always had a saying……you can always judge a good mechanic by his tools! Thanks for sharing your video ❤

They are second set of limbs to some extent.

I have 3 pair of the DSPIAE nippers. ( why 3 you might ask) 1 is for replacement should one of the other 2 break, and the other 2 are different models, one pair ( sold by MENG but has DSPIAE on it MTS026) has a very thin blade with an equally thin non-cutting surface, top rated ! The other ST-A3.0, has a not quite as thin blade and a much more robust non cutting surface. I always put the leather cover on the cutters. I use the crude Xuron cutters to cut up the sprues and the very sharp DSPIAE cutters to trim the parts from the sprues, the instructions say to cut using the part of the blade away from the tip. With these cutters it does not matter which scale model manufacturer plastic it is, the nippers slice and very rarely snap the plastic.

I usually use MENG, but not the ones you are using. I use their cheap version for general purposes mostly. I've consider getting their 026 or even their best release, but the price is too high and is highly unlikely that they will offer something better than ST-A 3.0 or GH-120 5.0.

Very informative video Mitko. My personal favourites are the Tamiya ones. I give them a lot of grief and find they hold up to a lot of abuse. I did buy some expensive one bladed cutters from Japan (I forget the brand). They looked amazing and were super high quality but I broke the top off the blade. Apparently this is quite common. If when cutting a part you turn your wrist and alter the angel of the nippers it can break the delicate blade. The seller described this as torque breakage. If I were to buy another set I would only use them for very small and delicate parts

DSPIAE are just like that. Probably the reason why they are snub-nosed. But they worth every penny if you ask me!

I have FISKARS nippers (wire cutters) that my wife used when she worked at a place that built circuit boards and they work great and I also have some that I bought at Walmart that come to a point Model 170 for $5.79 and a pair Dorman 90704 Micro wire cutter for $13.94 and they work just fine. I use the $5.79 more then the others.

Another great video. I really like my Dispae cutters; they are certainly better than the double-blade cutters and they save me some time sanding as I can cut closer to the part. Maybe I will upgrade to God Hand some day, but for now I don't think their extra cost above Dispae is worth it for me.

I bought 2 different models of DSPIAE to compare, because they looked like similar (and they are, only accessories change), and there is the same issue with both of them: the blade stay stuck in the plastic it 90% of the time, despite it is fully cut. It requires forcing to release them, it's super annoying. A solution to prevent that is to push with the flat side before snipping, but's it does not working all the time. I don't want to use them anymore because of that, but that's the best ones I found to cut plastic...
