@@ShaunHensley I'm an iowa farm girl and I've never heard of a cow rental before but I know bulls are used as studs and often go to other farms to breed cows

@@ShaunHensley think it is more a case of land being scarce so the farmer rented land to board his cattle Dad did that once but didn’t like the cattle not being in his view

Yes..we also trim hooves on sheep, goats and alpaca.

The farmer allowed it to get like that 99% of farmer trim there cows hooves and only call him when they have such problems occur

@RLMMinistries it would have helped a lot had you been more clear on who you were blaming! Not everyone has their volume up on high when they start watching. I had to go back to hear she had been housed elsewhere for the winter. Be precise!

Just google local farrier schools in your area. Most states have one or two and you will sometimes find a farrier supply store (usually multiple in a state that has any farms) and that would also be a place to speak to people and get leads on farriers who are currently working and in what areas they are working. Any old school grainery usually delivers large amounts of feed to farms of all kinds and would be a place to ask around. I know everyone at my grain elevator including the owners and the owners son went to high school with my car mechanic. . . .it's how small towns work - we all know each other and who does what and who has extra from their garden to who has extra sheep. I know which farrier each one of my neighbors use and half of us schedule at the same time with the same person so he makes only one trip. Any cattle shows at your state fairgrounds would also be a place to meet people, like a state cattle expo would even have classes on hoof care, but a farrier would be on staff and people are happy to discuss the care of the cattle they bring to show off.

I would think he should have at least notified the owner. The owner shouldn’t be charged for housing this cow if not also receiving damages for allowing the cow to be permanently hurt.

@@terriv9002 you make a good point but I'm saying since it was in care of the other farmer why he/she didn't get hoof trimmed? I would've asked owner if to get it trimmed and if owner says yes I would go ahead with it and get owner to pay if a professional did the trim.

It’s quite easy for us online to assume or expect another to do something we ourselves can’t or won’t do. I would be surprised if even 50% of viewers are hoof trimmers. (I myself am not)

Most people aren’t understanding the realities of animal husbandry. A single hoof out of a herd of cows being wintered is hardly worth anyone’s attentions. It gets really wintery in some of these areas (think Montana). You put out feed and let them roam for weeks and months. These are livestock, not pets. Some die, some get sick, some get bad hooves. Most turn out all right. It’s life on a farm.

​@@GlamGam1964 you should not work with animals of any kind if you think like this. Livestock or not they are living breathing creatures that feel pain. Plus if your livestock are healthy and happy then they produce better product be it milk or meat. So if you notice one animal has something wrong yes it is worth the time to get it checked. If you pay attention hoof gp regularly goes somewhere because of a single cow or bull. There are several vets on youtube that regularly go to farms for a problem with a single animal.

Oh I do like to see armchair warriors opinions.. Never been near livestock but have all the answers.. Try getting off your are and putting some hours into looking after this beasts. Some roam and will not come in even through winter.. Morons need a wake up call. Grow up.

@@briannahudson6329do you think about all this when you sink your teeth into a burger? How about a tender steak? When push comes to shove, these cows mean cash, which means they deal in volume. As a result, minor issues tend to be overlooked until they become major issues. It’s just the nature of agribusiness, emphasis on BUSINESS at the end of the day.

@@Trix897 absolutely I do think about this when eating any meat. It's why I'm careful about where my meat comes from. Plus happy animals produce better meat in quality, taste and quantity. And as someone who has lived on farms and worked with many different people who raise animals for food health happy animals while they were alive was always a priority. And nipping a problem in the bud when it's small before it becomes major like this was always something I and any other farmer I knew worried about. It costs more to fix a big problem than a little one so you stop it from becoming big. And even if you personally don't give a crap about animals suffering (which means you shouldn't be in any kind of animal business or around any animals of any kind) when you are being paid to take care of someone else's animals it's your responsibility to care for them to the highest possible standard meaning you take care of the small problems, like the cow that is slightly lame because it has a cracked hoof before it gets to the point of their anatomy changing and their bones literally rotting inside their bodies.
