Completely disagree on this, listen to Rahul ji's own guru who also happens to be the great pt. Kumar Gandharva ji's son pt Mukul shivputra once before making those bold claims and writing them with such blind confidence lol this rendition is definitely too amazing no doubt but Rahul ji(with all due respect) is quite far from being even close to pt Mukul ji (not just saying this out of respect to Mukul ji since he was Rahul ji's last guru and his taans,Alaap, Madhya laya,drut etc and kumar ji like style of singing is directly inherited from Mukul ji but because pt Mukul shivputra was simply out of this world at his prime as a vocalist himself, honestly when I listened to his interpretation of some of kumar Ji's compositions,bandish,nirguni bhajans etc I just forgot every other artist, thoughts, comparison, everything etc and was just listening to his rendition empty minded with a deep sense of bliss, he sung them with so much original rigor and amazingly technical yet pleasing way that his renditions just stood out tall even in front of his father's renditions, he was second to none in terms of both bhaav like his father and raw classical technique as well including the super fast taans{ I was fascinated by Rahul ji's taan and found it quite different from his grandfather's so I started research and then I heard him saying in one of his interview that he was simply blown away by kumar ji and when he met the great pt Mukul ji as his final guru, after learning from some other gurus for basic training, he requested to him that... "I want the taan that is in your gala",taan that kumar Ji taught him, then he taught him that, and although only 1 or 2 recordings are available on RU-vid of Mukul ji close to his prime but this Madhya laya and drut portion of raag yaman kalyan rendition of pt Mukul ji was the one that I found in which he was close to Rahul's current age or probably older and had this "Deodhar" taan mastered to a different level and I was blown away to listen to his version/interpretation of pt. Misfortune is that most recordings on RU-vid of pt Mukul ji were taken when he was much more older so it's hard to find one like raag yaman kalyan one that shows what a beast he was in his younger days!
