Music now? AI will replace humans soon. I wonder just how much Kurt would hate it now. It's exponentially worse. Telephone Directory?? hahahaha.....and Kurt, most underground bands, they sucked. Bad. Your band was hard pop. Nothing has changed, underground music usually SUCKS!
The interviewer is doing a terrific job here, most of them just asked stupid questions than no one could answer.. The show itself is also quite good for a summer 92 show.
nope this is not on the interviewer. nirvana was just a pain in the ass to communicate because of their edgyness. but im guessing you know this better than anybody, you being the "only nirvana covers" guy
This is probably one of their best interviews. Krist and Kurt seem happy to be in Europe, where alternative music was always more welcome than in the States, and they intelligently elaborate their views on fame, music (past and present), music scenes and their momentariness, other bands. Dave joins in too, but contrarily to the others, he doesn't seem sincere.
@@liberioescriba6158 I think Dave is the only one who gets that Kurt and Kris are bullshitting the interviewer with semi serious remarks about the underground.
@@liberioescriba6158 I quite like a few Foo Fighters songs, tbh. Dave's followed the path of mainstream and success, and at the end of the day that's his prerogative, of course. In my opinion it's something one could predict back in the day just by watching this interview, anyway.
@@tomlaros6500 Looking at what Dave and Krist said in this interview, and then looking at their careers post-Nirvana, I think that if any of them was bulshitting the interviewer, it wasn't Krist.
Forming a band is VERY doable. I’ve formed 3 different bands, but I will die unnoticed. The hard part is making music you like… and other people like as well. That’s the hard part🫤
@@Grownupbobbyhill I just missed the boat. In 2020, finally scored a BEAUTIFUL, perfect lead singer. She was an art major and a trained singer in our university’s theatre & dance dept. I couldn’t sing to save my life until I met her. I could actually harmonize with her. But she graduated and got a “real job”. Back to searching… or find another free vocals coach
20:50 Kurt: "i think with the next record we will lose a lot of our audience" I love it how he didn't care about the big arena concerts / festivals and even not pleasing people with their next record
actually, the bands that make music as a creative statement are not busy pleasing the audience, they write music that pleases them and hoping other people might like it too
This is the first time I've heard Kurt played a song request? " That kid with red hair wants us play D7". "Do we still know how to play that" Upload the video of this, it's Nirvana's only show in Sweden. It's recorded on video. So set it free for all old & new Nirvana fans. Bye bye fro Sweden
The Last True Rock Star. once Kurt died, Musick was never the same there ain't No "Real" Rock Stars now a days like it was in 1991/1992 when Kurt was on Every cover of Magazines, and Music Videos being played on repeat on Empty-Tv, and was well known around the world and was not just a person who can walk down the street without being gawked at every second being asked for autographs constantly. There is like No such thing as a Rock Star these days let alone Rock Music, Fuck even Record Stores are almost obsolete these days.. it's a fucking shame
@@peluchingamarra3127 Fail! I m not a fucking sheep like you, I have a mind of my own and don t follow herds. I play guitar better than him. There goes your god....ohhhhh, and he s musically illiterate, so that you know. I wonder what people would call Mozart
Meu Deus ! #kurtcobain #Nirvana #grunge
All of the cultural issues raised in the interview have been resolved by the internet. Access to music so easy now. No need to open a phone book, find an independent record store, and go there to buy a fanzine! Life has changed so much since the late 80's/early 90's and of course these guys had no idea at the time. It's weird every time I think how Kurt died just before the web took off and he never experienced it. So long ago. In some ways it seems like yesterday and in others a hundred years ago.
You’d think it would of made popular music better but quite the contrary is true, the internet era has bread some of the absolute worst noise to ever be called music that now tops the charts even with infinite access to music. Nothing has really changed besides people have become far lazier in everything they do, it’s gotten to the point where reading a comment like this is too much effort for many people let alone picking up a telephone and calling record shops before manually going there and checking out music for themselves. The internet is really done far more harm than good and its effects are global.
@@TheWedgeWizardYeah, this week I played a game with my pupils. They have to log in with a PIN code with 6 numbers. But they asked me to zoom in the QR code. I think music has become way worse. The ambition to achieve something like Nirvana is simply not there. Because it wouldn't work the way it did.
@@TheWedgeWizardit didn't teach you to spell or help with unproductive/unmotivated negativity, that's for sure. don't worry about the "mainstream music sucks" though, you'll grow out of it once you realize it's dumb to care.
Respect to the interviewer who actually got them talking! Great to see them go on about their thought processes without being constantly interrupted by inane questions.
People still can’t find good music, if anything the pop music has gotten even worse these days and they don’t even have to call up record shops or read fanzines. The internet could have made music better and more accessible but it seems like it’s only made trendy music worse and the audiences far lazier to the point of reading a comment like this is too much effort let alone the simple task of picking up a telephone, calling around to record shops and going to check out music manually. Kids are literally terrified of making phone calls, that’s what internet has done to society in a nutshell, nothing positive. I say let’s burn it down and go back to analog.
So simple it can be played with 1 finger, the lyrics are short and sweet but still kicks so much ass. That’s what made Kurt such a genius, he was so good at making things simple, catchy & poetic like no other.
I feel like that is now, there is literally no generstional gap, because their is like nothing good, the 90's is rehashed so many times, they even bringing the early 2000's back ..like is their any talent out somewhere thats gonna bring a revolution.. my sons 10 and listens to Nirvana and hes like oh this really cool...I dunno
Dave definitely the third less important wheel ,‘just ‘ & ‘ only ‘ the drummer, how he was to prove to be more influential than anyone could imagine looking at this video way back then
Well not sure if you know this but the song "The Money Will Roll Right In" is written by a 80's Punk band from Berkeley, CA called "Fang" and is featured on Fang's album "Landshark" which is one of Kurts Favorite 50 Albums.
@@rychcorporhate I'm not sure if you know this but Kurt's spends 30 seconds explains that the song is by Fang and telling you where they're from before they play the song
@@peanutdom yes, I know that, ... Kurt jokes around and said that Krist wrote the song, but then says it's by Fang from Berkeley CA. And I was just mention that it was a Fang song and not Nirvana as the person above said Kurt fucked up the lyrics in the first song (but actually the way Kurt sings the song at this concert is the original way Fang sings it, the way Kurt sings it 2 months later 08/30/92 at the Reading Festival, Kurt switched the 3rd and 2nd verses around).
@@rychcorporhate well he doesn't sing the "it's nice to have a car" line or the "you'll feel pretty stupid" line so I don't think it's exactly like the Fang version. Never realised he switched the verses at Reading though

Discussing underground music, they're in one of 3 countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland) that had totally booming underground scenes at the time. Norwegian kids were worshipping satan, burning churches and stabbing one another, and Swedish and Finnish kids were just making some cracking tunes. Fun times.
Well Nirvana played in all three of those countries that you named... They played June 27, 1992 - Kansanpuisto (Ruisrock), Turku, Finland. June 28, 1992 - Kalvøya (Kalvøyafestivalen), Sandvika, Oslo, Norway. June 30, 1992 - Sjöhistoriska Museet, Stockholm, Sweden. So three(3) days they played in all three (3) of the countries you had mentioned, wonder if Kurt bought any records in those countries, or just played the festival and moved on to the next country....?
@@rychcorporhate Yes, the music was significantly different to what the Scandinavian underground had stirred up though. Nirvana were like soft rock in comparison :'D
This time kurt healthy well, body perfect normally human, looking smart than after years weight loss & bad habits. “Love your self better love anybody”
Well not to contradict you but before Nirvana went on this Rescheduled Nevermind European Tour in June '92 the last time they played a show was on February 22, 1992 the end of the Nevermind Pacific Rim Tour of Australia/Japan/New Zealand/Hawaii... So Nirvana hasn't played from Feb 22, 1992 - June 21, 1992 so those 4 months in-between Kurt was most likely using heroin because when they started the Reschedule Nevermind European Tour In June '92 Kurt was on Methadone. The first show of this Tour June 21, 1992 The Point Theatre, Dublin, Ireland Kurt looked sickly and was sweating alot, then following day June 22, 1992 In Belfast Kurt was Hospitalized for passing out, Kurt claim it was because he stood up too fast but he forgot to take his methadone. But by the time Nirvana played this show June 30th Kurt's been off Heroin for at least 2 weeks or maybe a little more, and being on Methadone he wouldn't be having any withdrawals anyways, so that can explain why he looks healthy and well, during this time... Which sadly doesn't last as by August Kurt's In Rehab, (when Nirvana played the Reading Festival 08/30/92 Kurt was actually still In Rehab and needed permission to leave the Rehab to fly to the UK to play the Reading Festival).
Listen to the way Kurt Cobain talks between songs! 92 was a good year for him ...the fact he got quieter and quieter in 93 and 94 and nobody noticed or cared makes me sick!! He was obviously unhappy and tired anc nobody cared ...RIP ROCK N ROLL
Kurt is the only serious person here, he is intellectual. Chris and Groll are less intelligent, they generally just wanted to have fun and have a good time, but they were influenced by Kurt, and as soon as he starts talking, they get serious too. This is not a musical influence, this is a personal influence, and the same thing happens to listeners, this is more than just some kind of musical style, this is some negativism that is characteristic of really intelligent people. Those who are reasonable, they stop seeing value in big money or in anything external, they are generally disappointed in the material world and look at everything with some sadness
Since it's birth rock n roll has been plagued by blood sucking leeches. The musicians are artists and artists are concerned with their art and not so much how much money their art can generate. If they were so concerned with money and other possible side effects of their art they never would been able to stay together as a band or even come to anyone's attention to be recognized as noteable artists. The music, the love of music must always come first. That's where you will find the very best music. And also the leeches. They will always manufacture a way to get a paycheck off of any band that has a sizeable following. It would be a great thing if it were more of a symbiotic relationship. But leeches don't care where they get it as long as they get their blood. In the case of Nirvana the leeches were too numerous and they, in various ways, drained all the joy and purity that was Nirvana. What a dirty low down shame. ❤
Dave has said that he deliberately didn't say too much when he was in nirvana precisely because he was the drummer. It wasn't his band, it was Kurt and Krist's gig and he knew better. Look what happened to Chad, and Jason Everman.. And Everman PAID FOR THE RECORDING OF BLEACH!!! And he still got fired.. So, yeah, there ya go..
@@Deludedeluge Did you know Kurt? I'm curious as to how you know what you're saying is even true? I met, talked with and ate with the whole band in Lawrence KS in 1993.
@@Deludedeluge well, I know it's right because I've read his autobiography... Your spiritual whatever is wrong bro. Read it for yourself. He was recording his own music almost the ENTIRE time he was in Nirvana. AND, he and Kurt, yeah, they were roommates, they hung out..sometimes. but towards the end it was "those who did(H) and those who didn't"-Dave Grohl. They were only together on stage basically. He wasn't absorbing anything more from Kurt than exactly what NOT TO DO when you have a new daughter and a whole bunch of other less important responsibilities. How old are you?? 12? 15? Take a lesson from Kurt and myself(recovering H addict) don't be stupid like Kurt. He was the smartest idiot I ever met that's for sure...✌️
@@tencentpistol1 Direct knowledge is not the best way to understand things sometimes . Some say the sun is millions of miles away but it could be just a couple hundred miles afar as it actually looks like that. One of steve Jackson’s cards , which were intented to predict future breakthrough events already portraited a blond guitarrist in a recording room and the ones recording were hooded guys looking at him , that was way before nirvana existed . To hang out for a while with rich and famous people doesn’t make you rich nor famous and at advance spiritual levels , those famous may not know or even believe the mechanism by which they were brought here as incarnated souls for a propose and even less explain it to you in a dinner meal as they don’t know or wouldn’t believe it either if it was explained to them . I’m not trying to argue . Nirvana is my favorite band of all times and I have a lot of respect for that. Kurt once mentioned in an interview the Jeffrey Einstein island . Just five months after that he was found dead. There’s more than meets the eye here , in the whole world . Outside events in our lives are not the real thing but our level of consciousness at the particular time they are happening to us is what counts.. too many things .. English is not even my first language , but i became obsessed with it as with music . So don’t worry : I know all the words …
The funny thing about the interview in the beginning, to me, is that Kurt just wanted this kind of music (punk I guess, indie rock etc.) to stay special and underground. He sort of got his wish because now, anyone can start a band, put their stuff online, do shows or whatever but NO ONE is clamoring for this kind of stuff anymore. He took advantage of the time he was in when rock music was literally EVERYTHING to young kids who felt like outsiders. Now what do we have? Trap music? Mumble rap? Machine Gun Kelly? Idk..... all of the dinosaurs Kurt refers to are gone but have been replaced with new ones who are still fucking over artists just as much as they always did and now album sales are not even a source of income anymore........ There are probably 10 or so bands that are like Nirvana right now but you won't even know they exist because they probably just play local shows in a small town and they'll probably breakup or whatever before anyone even listens to their stuff. Kurt got so fucking lucky and didn't even realize what he had. He wanted to be a big star but wanted to stay in the goddamn garage forever also..... You cannot have it both ways. The world where rock ruled everything is long gone. RIP
There is always the "underground." Go find up and coming bands in your area. Go hang out at dives and listen to tons of shitty music and talk to people and have fun and find those diamonds in the rough. If you really love the music you will enjoy the process and find a bunch of music you love, no matter what your particular scene is. That is the point. The journey and meeting people and having fun, not the "I heard this band before they were known" part.
Bringing Rock n Roll back?... I was not aware it had gone anywhere.. Lemmy and Motörhead was still around. DIO,. Kiss;... Just because its not mainstream for record labels does it mean that its dead?... Does record labels decide what you listen to?.... Apparently back then.
This must be the famous interview where Matt Stone & Trey Parker found the inspiration behind Kenny, and Mike Judge found inspiration behind Beavis's Cornholio character
