Nirvana Interview - Madrid, Spain 02/07/94 

I just noticed Krist going “you alright?” to Dave when they’re getting ready for the first interview. He was always doing what he could to watch out for them and keep energy and moral up even when things were starting to crumble. Definitely the papa in charge as Kurt described him as. Very empathic and gentle giant of a man who cares deeply for everyone around him.

I appreciate krisdt. He’s so important for the way Nirvana is rounded out with the cynically driven side of punk and then the unconventional silliness with his relentless ego less awkwardness. Lastly I then point to the brotherhood and loyalty to the band that he with Kurdt crafted and It is a beautiful thing.

It's quite sad Dave speaks about summer festival that never happened

the interview starting around 7:30 is very uncomfortable at times knowing what we know now; questions regarding the "stress levels" of the band and how its still a mystery to both of them in regards to the direction of their next project are very haunting

It’s hard to watch knowing what’s ahead of them in a couple of months. Especially when they talk about the summer tour.

Oh my GOD, these guys were just soooo genuine, no mask on them, they were just going with the flow so naturally, saying and giving their opinions of whatever and however they wanted, so free, so charismatics....but well, just like another man in these comments said, they didnt know what was ahead from them, regarding kurt's death =(...it is hard to believe that back then, it was less than a month for kurt passing away =(....but well, things happened like they happened....but still, they looked so nice and tender in this spanish interview....LOVE THEM!!!

A lot is revealed by what they say, "still a mystery.. to us" suggesting they had no idea what Kurt was thinking or planning for the band. Seems very much Kurt was in charge. This is fascinating to see, perhaps Dave and Krist haven't seen this before either.

Weird you can't help but sense the guys are worried about Kurt. Especially Dave there's a sadness there. A look of hurt. Don't remember dave looking like this. Even nowadays. They knew something was up, butvobviously not what ultimately happened.

Dave learned so much from this time in Nirvana..mostly what not to do when you're the front man of an incredible band. That's why his incredible band has stood the test of time!

Krist is Kurts old friend and it comes across in this interview! You can tell with retrospect that things are not going well. Krist is trying to keep moral up,dave is being dave.

I don't blame him for not showing up. It's pretty lame having to pretend to be "pals" with these radio people. Krist and Dave could handle it because they were naturally goofy and hilarious. Kurt was funny too, but more privately funny. Imagine being exhausted already and your Record Label promised some radio station in some foreign country that you'd show up on one of your days off and have a camera shoved in your face with a hundred repetitive questions behind it. I wouldn't show up either. Can't blame him.

Less than a month after this interview, Kurt would ingest reportedly 50 Rohypnol pills and go into a brief coma in Rome in what seems to have undoubtedly been a suicide attempt.

You can't see Kurt because he's in depression and alone. I think...

You can feel the bitterness behind Dave and Krist words during the second interview (cf Kurt's sloppy playing, Krist' opinion about cynicism, Dave saying "it's up the air", "kind of a mystery... to us" etc). They clearly came to a point where they all knew the band was falling apart and Kurt's addictions and habits bothered them a lot.

Kurt stayed in his room and did not attend... sadly.

Kurt was not in video interviews anywhere on this tour. His last interview was over the phone with Fender magazine. Sad to see Krist and Dave in all those two-man interviews, they had no idea what was ahead of them.
