... moms everywhere are incredible at fostering potentials out of their kids must be liberating to hear one's kids raising hell in your own living room/basement/garage kids being kids they're old enough to create and do RIP 🥀👸🏼 to my own single mother of 3 she was amazing with us "boys" we were full of energy 🙈🙉🙊 we all have degrees from the U of Wisconsin somehow 🦡 Gen X present 🎅🏼
I love Kurt having to sing against the wall just so he can sort of hear what the hell is coming out of his head. Loud…and lovely…as BALLS in that room I bet
I had a band in the early 1970s...nothing great, just played all the high school proms across Houston. We were practicing in my parent's garage, Marshall amps (LOUD) and my Dad came out and said we were "over modulating". We all laughed and turned it down. Never forgot that. My dad passed away in 2005. I love you, Dad.
My dad would come in and say “Did you think about changing it to an A minor”, he always pointed me in the right direction with the chord changes in the songs I wrote and performed with my band in the late 90’s. It’s funny now because I do the same thing with my son.
Giants won the pennant in 89 and the locker room was a massive drunk fest. A local reporter asked Will Clark about the game and he was all screaming and shrill and the reporter told him to chill, that he was over modulating and Clark asked "what the f**k does that mean?' whooooooeeeee...cracked me up...good story about the rehearsal and your dad.

My brothers had a cover band back in the 70's . Both my parents loved music and my mom taught piano. She was perfectly happy to allow rehearsals in our finished basement.
A lot of this was released from a box set released with the lights out in 2004. I'm glad my sister bought it. It has all of this in the DVD it came with.
It was a freak accident they became famous. But as we know, even they weren't cut out for it. Cobain couldn't handle it. We all see where it got him. Its not all fun and games, its a cut throat business, where you take orders on what to sing and how to sing it! What to play, and how to play it! Do exactly as you're told, you make money and fame. Don't obey those telling you what to do, the band breaks up and you lose it all. Lots of pressure, lots of rules to becoming famous. And not all of us like to be "Yes men" to achieve that fame. The only person who survived this group in the music world is the drummer.
This is something I can relate to. 5 years later than this, I was 17 years old and rehearsing upstairs in my grandmothers house playing for my beerdrinking friends and having fun. We were playing so loud that the damn pictures fell of the walls and the neighbours were complaining, but she loved the company and.was almost deaf anyway. Gosh I miss her! ❤️
Tanya Arpipunyakorn I agree. I think everyone focuses on his voice and no one ever talks about his amazing guitar playing. Not saying his voice isn’t amazing.
I wouldn’t feel bad for Chad. Unless he really got fucked by the lawyers, his performance credits on Bleach, Incesticide, and the various Best Of and boxed sets have made him a rich man. Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, didn’t he sue in the 90s, and accept some ridiculously small amount? If so, what a dumbass..
I was 28 days from turning 17 yrs old. But I was a metal head. I appreciate them a little more now than I did at that time period. Cool video. Kids being kids. Before all the fame and loss. RIP 90s.
These are so great. Hard to imagine there was a time in history where kurt hadn't memorized the lyrics to About a Girl. I lived in Eastern Washington and had no idea this music existed at that time.
Do you think that after being a word wide super rock star and after your death, your old recordings will just lay there ? Nah, i'm sure a lot of records like this were given to the public attention and uploaded on the web
This is on With the Lights Out box set like tcd said here. I bought it when it came out and all I can say too is WOW! I'm 59 and have always loved Nirvana. When Bleach came out I got it from a young employee who thought it was awful and I played it everyday.ha. Crazy to me. Peace
Kurt faces the wall because this is a practice session and they are all facing the same way they are on stage. You ever see Em on stage face each other? Didn't think so!
@@ccgbassandmore3 You are right. He stands this way, because other wise mice would start to feedback ,because volume is high,I have to do exactly the same, when I play at my house- speaker behind me and stand same direction as Kurt, only because to avoid strong feedback, so I could play louder. plus acoustic aspect Im sure. Not because of the stage theory lol.For instance, Krist is not standing like he is on stage. hes moving all over the place.
I was one of those teenager stoner-dudes earning my doctorate in chemical engineering, addiction studies and gynecology during the years of grade 8 to Bachelors Degree and beyond! Its a treat to discover all these previously unreleased diamond mines 25 YeARs LAteR These are more than rock shows to me. They are a window in time that is so far gone! These old fan contributions remind me of my childhood. I'm blessed. We're all blessed that this fan-creative movement rolls on 'can't forget Kurt's homosexually-nuanced, incestually-laden subject matter and nasty chord progressions. Clean Up Before She Comes, Y'all me I was yours, you you were mine, mine and I was yours you, you are mine and me I was mine and you you were yours yours and I was yours yours and you were mine mine.
So cool. I like how they rehearse playing as if there is an audience, rather than in a circle looking at each other. That way their rehearsal sounds and feels more like it will be when they play live
Oh my gosh. I cant really describe what its like to hear and even presence hearing them before fame when it wasnt so much pressure and all taken so seriously. You can tell that they were something about to happen, the songs are just so catchy with real great tunes. Thank you so very much to this youtube channel for this footage!
and so it begins, a legend slowly taking form , years of trial error and blood sweat and tears, keep your courage lads its gonna pay off, bigger than you could ever imagine
it was recorded by Krist Novoselic's brother, Robert , so far this is the only early rehearsal video that has surfaced, I hope in the future more pop up,
Its amazing man they had it i.mean they were destined to go right to the top and yes kris bass playing is outstanding im a old man from the 60s but this band mesmerizes me big time.
Bet you didn't think you'd get a reply on your comment inside of an hour, when every comment on this vid happened 1 to 5 years ago. Also, I agree w/ you.
The description say this was december - 1988, but I think this is probably may or june of 1988, because the songs wasn´t well structured yet and for december they must be rehearsing for bleach recordings. I think this is the first rehearsals with Chad on drums.
