The Nisga’a First Nations community is hoping to use a totem pole to teach generations to come.
Neetu Garcha spent time with some of Nisga’a nation's youth on this Truth and Reconciliation day as the community looks forward to what they hope is a brighter future.

Government sectors typically must lead by example, then hope other industries and companies follow their lead. In other words make sure you're wearing an orange shirt on Monday when I come into Starbucks for my coffee, I'll need one from sleeping in late. Thanks.

So the teachers mother was subject to abuse in the hospital when suffering from TB. This is disgraceful that not only the nuns and priests were treating the children savagely but also the nurses and perhaps doctors as well ? This is the first time I have heard of this and would like to know more about her mothers case. Brenda

Sadly there are many stories like this. It's a difficult topic for the victims but I think it's important if they can tell their stories. Otherwise it will be lost. That's why this day is good and hopefully it fosters an environment where people feel more open to sharing their experiences.
