@@shirishag75able Well, technically right but he forgot to mention some important details. If you read the release from Nissan you can see that these are isolated events in the US due to extra ordinary spend on marketing and a switch to a focus on hybrids. In finance, we call these non-recurring items and are normally adjusted for. This would have been important to disclose. So if we look over a longer time horizon, it is a bit deceiving to say that the profit has collapsed by 99% since you never look at one quarter in a vacuum and you should explain the reasons. If we look at the top line, i.e. before the extraordinary expenses, Nissan actually grew in Q1 2024, also important to mention. Furthermore, Nissan grew in China. But I guess this doesnt fit his and all the Chinese' EV supporters' narrative.

I work for a company that employs a massive contracted marketing firm. One of the top three in North America. They conducted research, and if my memory serves me correctly, something like 92% of Nissan buyers had no idea what a cvt was. The remaining 8% knew what a cvt was, but had no issues with trusting Nissan’s reliability. As for the folks who did not buy a Nissan, but purchased from another manufacturer, such as Honda or Toyota, they were asked their reasons for not buying a Nissan and the top answers were overall price (Nissan prices have increased substantially with no incentives to move products); Dealer network (fewer Nissan dealers with fewer cars available) and customer service (Nissan dealers have a poor reputation for shady sales practices and sales towards credit challenged customers.) Cvt issues nor reliability were anywhere in the marketing report. Full disclosure, I am an executive administrative claims adjuster for an extended warranty company. We have meetings weekly with risk analysts to discuss current trends in the automotive industry.

Unfortunately for Nissan, they have a CEO that is focused heavily on survival. Taking an extremely conservative approach towards maximizing the current profit potential. This means selling their mediocre lineup as if they are a phenomenal product. The proverbial “polishing a turd” and putting a red bow and a price tag on it. While this is working in Japan, and a few other markets, it’s failing spectacularly in North America, one of their most important markets. North American consumers prefer the approach of a mediocre product offered at a rock bottom price, and sales increase exponentially along with profits due to sheer volume. Nissan’s CEO doesn’t understand North American buyers, and frankly, does not care.

The only bright light for Nissan is that 2023 was a better year than 2022. Whether that becomes a new trend or whether 2024 sees a continuation of the previous trend remains to be seen. However it is not hard to find numerous stories which go like this: "Nissan lowered its full fiscal year outlook on Thursday, as the Japanese automaker reported a 73% decline in profit in the April-June quarter compared to the previous year" So 2024 looks like another year where sales may increase, however profits will decrease. Price, inventory, and dealership reputation were the key factors in where consumers bought their vehicles. What about the Nissan Frontier in the US? It looks like a great truck to me, especially the 4WD which appears to be about 10K cheaper than the Tacoma, which is having tranny issues...
@haroldbeauchamp3770
@haroldbeauchamp3770 21 день назад
The problem is that even at 10k cheaper, it’s still grossly overpriced in a stagnant market. Midsized trucks are struggling as of late. Toyota’s new Tacoma is a product of bad timing and rushed production. Don’t confuse their new Tacoma release as a result of demand. The opposite is true. The new Tacoma is a result of poor demand and an effort to generate new sales. Nissan needs to begin a massive price reduction campaign and reduce prices 8k-15k across the board on all models and dependent on trim level. Then, purchase millions in advertising on social media and traditional media and blast the price decreases to the public.

Problem was that every single Pathfinder that arrived in a 200 mile radius had a black interior and either black, white, or silver/gray exterior. South Africa’s president Cyril Ramaphosa signed a new climate change bill into law this week, reported the Citizen. The bill introduces a regulatory framework for climate mitigation and adaptation, something that had been lacking up to now. The current “science-based” climate targets that have been adopted by companies across the world suffer from three issues: “basic misrepresentation”; “narrow and arbitrary benchmarks”; and “unequal effort sharing in an unequal world”. This makes them in need of reform, argued a comment piece published in Nature Communications Nature and Environment. A Nature study found that as well as absorbing carbon dioxide, trees also absorb methane from the atmosphere through their bark, making them more effective in absorbing greenhouse gases than previously thought. George Monbiot appeared on Guardian’s Science Weekly podcast to discuss the record-long jail terms for non-violent protest given to five Just Stop Oil activists for planning the blocking of a motorway in the UK.

Japanese culture is very conservative, much more so than Westerners realize. We sit here and observe from afar, asking "Why don't they retool and build more EVs? Why don't they adopt newer technology?" But the reality is that if you study Japan to any extent, you will realize they do not change that fast. Yeah they were amazing in the 1980s; we all thought they were taking over the world. But it was an illusion; they just copied America and did a better job. Unfortunately they were unable to copy U.S. software and web technologies because of the platform barrier; once a company like Yahoo or Netscape had the market, no one else could break in. Later, it was Google, Apple, then Facebook and Amazon. The Japanese are still living in the '80s. They might catch up eventually but meanwhile China and the Koreans are eating their lunch. It's a tough neighborhood over there.

Not to mention they also took the fight to the German luxury segment with cars like the Laurel, Cedric, Cima, President and the Infinity luxury arm. Sad how 20 odd yrs of mismanagement and the wave of EVs has led to this 2nd wave of bankrupty including the one that Carlos Ghosn bailed them out of is simply a nail in the coffin for this once great legacy automaker.
