Best walk around video on this that I’ve seen. Thanks! I have a 14 Pro4x and have been considering starting the mods for fishing, hunting and camping. You’re video was very helpful. Thanks again!
Very nice setup, functional and not flashy. I'm looking to get one of these, I like the shorter wheelbase vs a wrangler, and the interior looks roomier.
Love the green on green. Very nice location for the video. Beautiful shot. We have the obnoxious yellow but we love it's uniqueness. The green is definitely my second favorite color X. Awesome! We want to get an old man emu kit also because we have emus.
Too bad the xterra was discontinued. I think it’s the ultimate go to truck for camping and over landing. Very versatile and tons of mods available. I’d buy one myself, but their so hard to find now.
Awesome video. I hadn't heard of Alpicool or AFE, so thank you!! Can you please give us your assessment of the OME suspension over stock? It seems to be the logical choice, but there is a lot out there. Any reason why you went with OME specifically that you could share? Thanks again!
OME is more of an upgrade on the spring quality and load carrying capacity with a slightly upgraded shock. The lift height is enough to clear 33s completely but it still retains mostly stock suspension components and won't cause UCA contact.
Just recently just picked up a Sport model... just 4x4... no locker or anything..... but I plan on a lift and tires.... I imagine it will suit me just fine for what I want to do. Have you had to swap out the radiator yet?
What are the parts you used for the rooftop tent mounts? What width and length of bolt? I really liked your idea of using an exhaust clamp for the rooftop tent mount. I am getting a tent for my car soon, and am prepping to mount.
I'm unsure of the exact bolt measurements, and it will vary depending on your exact tent and roofrack. I just mocked up the exhaust clamp bracket to the tent on the vehicle and estimated the length needed for bolts then went to a hardware store and got 8 bolts and nuts (nylock). It's very secure on the rack in offroad situations.
There's a thread on thenewx.org that outlines the process. It basically involves running some jumper wires in the differential control module under the dash. There's a good diagram in the thread.
Nice rig, thanks for the vid. Question: Your tent, I heard the stock roof bars supports only 150 lbs? Any issues with the tent and the way it is mounted overall?
Thanks for watching! I have been wheeling many times with tent attached to the stock rack and neither has ever budged. I mounted the tent with the front edge of the forward mounting rail up against the roof basket (basically slid as far forward as I could get it). This seems to be the easiest on the roof rack and distributes the weight the best, and it also shifts the tent weight forward for less sag on the rear springs.
Great looking Xterra! You don't see that green everyday on them. Just curious, do you think the XL version of the tent would look awkwardly big on top of the Xterra? We're a family of 4 so kinda need get a big one so I'm on the fence between Xterra or a frontier. Thanks 👍
The XL would be a larger profile on the roofline, however if you plan on removing the tent between trips it will be fine. I leave my tent on all year because I use it for hunting season, along with camping in spring, summer, and fall.
@@Qbynordi Ya I'd be leaving it on as I have a seperate work vehicle, my wife has her own vehicle so it would be dedicated just for camping. So I guess it would look awkward but still kinda work? Lol
The WAM winch mount required a little cutting of the stock bumper. The X20 10k was a tight fit and I suspect a smaller winch would fit with ease. I have not noticed any cooling issues even when offroad on hot days in 4lo.
Go with Yokohama Geolandar tires. Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs are junk. I had a brand new set of Duratracs Load Range E, and a metal vape pen went through a sidewall like it was made of paper. They have weak sidewalls, even on the Load Range E tires. Goodyear totally blew me off. Replaced them with Yokohamas and they have been fantastic.
There is a write up online if you search for 'Xterra locker anytime mod' that gives a step by step. It entails modifying the differential lock control module under the driver's side dash.
I have the same mods on my 06' off road 6spd. The rear bumper would be nice to raise the departure angle some. That rear hitch, trailer plug in, and spare are sometimes too low. The pinch in the exhaust right before the muffler is another thing I'd like to change. I hear the intake mani spacer is really good for these as well. Nice rig!
