Considering it could have potentially led to the Death of the occupants in an accident I would say Criminal is pretty Fitting. Cheers Mate.

Hey trevor, Im not surprised from what you found in your video, and this is why I don't trust any mechanical shops for performing work on a 300ZX here in Australia as there is little to no experienced 300ZX mechanics to choose from and instead I do all the work I can myself much like youself to know that the job was done right everytime. Luckily for me my JDM 300ZX imported in 2006 does not have this kind of intrusion bar install and there is no damage to the inner door skin frame like what you have shown in your video. What I have had done, is a pair of square hallow tubes have been welded together and installed inside the door much like yours and then bolted to either side of the inner door skin. I see this setup as structurally sound and I am confident it will protect me incase of a side impact accident. Also to add to this, my install was done by a importer who I brought the car from directly here in Melbourne and I have no complicance plate to show this install was done which I am not concered with at all. Im curious as to why you didnt look into going for the later model B pillar seat belt conversion which would be a more structural and practical seat belt setup. With my december built NA JDM model the lower mounting point was all installed from the factory but the upper b pillar mount was just a round hole in the steel. I took the car to the importer who I actually brought the car from a year after to have the later model seat belt conversion done and all they did was weld a high tensile nut to a steel plate, and slide that plate down the top of the b pillar into place where the factory hole was on the b pillar and then pot rivet the plate to the steel. I know it might not sound like a perfect factory install replication but I am confident that even if the rivets were to break off during a lockup of the upper seat belt mount the steel plate wouldnt be able to break through the steel on the b pillar so I am not concerned about jeopardizing my own safety in my own car with this setup. I do have a couple of spare later model seat belts and some spare upper b pillar trim pieces suited for the install if your installed.

G'day Adam, sounds like you got your car from a Decent Company. I don't have an issue Structuraly with the Door Mounted Seatbelts if the attachment points have been properly repaired or in good condition. Personally, I kinda like those quirky JDM things, I feel it adds to the Unique Character of the Vehicle Somewhat. At least it seems if anyone is concerned about them, B Pillar mounting seems pretty easily doable. Thanks for the Comment. Cheers Mate.

Holy shit...but as always you overcame the problem...I seriously admire your tenacity. Just an aside, how is the anti intrusion bar secured at either end?
@TheAussieShed
@TheAussieShed 8 месяцев назад
G'day Peter, its wedged right up to both ends of the door & Riveted in position. Doesn't sound like much, but the rivets are only there to keep it positioned. In the event of an impact the bar is already extended well into the A & B Pillar areas, so they obstruct it from intruding into the passenger compartment.

Well spotted, that is so bloody dangerous. I hope you can track down the shop that did this and shove those bars where the sun don't shine. Have you thought about transfering the the belts to the pillars? You will find the threaded holes are already there to mount the belts.

Hi, Trevor yes, that is one hell of a shit job on those doors that is for sure, but having said that it is a really crappy place to mount seat belts does not appear to be a lot of strength there from new, But I could be wrong.🥴🥴🥴🥴

Wow, that was safer before the retrofit than now. How did this pass an official inspection, or who got paid. Can you chase this down, there should be paperwork for having that improvement done.

That was quite the cleanup task... Thanks for making the video! Great to see what sort of crash structures are added into doors. Any chance you could share some rough material dimensions of the crash bar? Going to be making something like this in the future and I'd appreciate a rough reference point as I plan this out.
