I am controlling hooded crows on a hill farm to help protect sheep and lambs during lambing time in the spring. Hooded crows will pray on young lambs or even fully grown sheep who can get stuck on their backs when heavily pregnant unable to protect themselves. The crows will generally go for the soft tissue areas like the eyes tongue and anus and i have seen the damage they can do myself, this wont kill the sheep right away but will leave it weak and injured with a long suffering death unless found by the farmer.
Magpies and crows will also take any eggs or fledglings of ground nesting birds that they find.
This can legally be done through the Department Of Agriculture, Environment And Rural Affairs Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order 1985 (As Amended) Licence.
This Licence hereby authorises for the purpose of preventing the spread of disease and preventing serious damage to livestock, foodstuffs for livestock, crops, vegetables, fruit, growing timber and fisheries ANY AUTHORISED PERSON to kill or take any of the following birds:-
Crow, Jackdaw, Magpie, Pigeon (Wood), Pigeon (Feral), Rook, Sparrow (House), Starling.
Rifle CZ 527 Varmint .17 Hornet
Scope Meopta 4-16x44 Tactical
Ammo .17 Hornet with 20gr Vmax hand loads
Bush Wear The Bush chair hide
Range Finder Bushnell Scout 1000
Tactacam 5.0 and FTS unit

Don't worry about the hair. After I saw a picture of my horseshoe haircut I decided to shave it all off and never regretted it. Never have to worry about washing it again. Makes for a quick shower! Keep up the shooting!
@NitroHV

That sounds like a good idea but i'll maybe start off with a no1 first.

Enjoyed your video, as ever. You certainly knocked that first Magpie well and truly off it's perch. Re the first shot, the Crow was knocking 7-bells out of your decoy and just one slight mm of body-movement could have been enough to cause a miss.
@NitroHV

Very true i may have just timed it wrong or something.

Loving this!! Can’t wait for the next one. Hopefully it’s with the 10/22 🤞🏻as I’ve purchased one recently which I’m loving, especially with Winchester 42g they can really do a number on the greys, really appreciate all your efforts David.

Thanks very much though patience is something i have had to learn over the years to get these hooded crows and hopefully i haven educated this one too badly or it will be hard to get another day.

I stopped using a 17 Hornet after it ricochet off a rabbit's back and took most of its skin off. It was due to the angle of the hill. I did manage to kill it but, I stick to a projectile with more momentum now.

Nice video and good shooting and I wouldn't worry about the first bird it wasn't you that bird ducked just enough to make him crap himself 😅 and a side note don't forget to pack your rangefinder . Cheers brother I can't wait for the next one
@NitroHV
@NitroHV Год назад
Ahh i am kicking my self for forgetting the rangefinder as that was a nice opportunity for a long shot with no wind.

Great video as always, and great shooting too. I often find the first shot after a clean is not as accurate as the rest so maybe that can account for missing the first grey?
@NitroHV
@NitroHV Год назад
Well it was a cold bore shot but i haven't cleaned the rifle for a long time and usually try and zero the rifle while the barrel is cold and dirty to try and stop first shot misses.

Very nice video as always David! I’ve been searching your channel if you ever made a video of how you ”twist and turn” the wire for setting those dead crows up for decoy? Thanks for all the inspiration! // Thomas from Sweden 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪

@NitroHV
@NitroHV Год назад
It was cold but i did work up a sweet walking in so took my hat off and what a surprise i got when watching the footage back, oh well at least i got to keep my hair longer than my father did Ha Ha.

@Eirehunter22 Год назад
How’s it going David the grey crow miss…when you slow the playback speed to 25 on your already slow motion replay it looks like you flinched fairly severe just as you squeezed the trigger and went high and right ever so slightly. It happens me the odd time when I go from shooting the shotgun to shooting the rifle,it’s especially worse when I’m shooting off the sticks!
@NitroHV
@NitroHV Год назад
It wouldn't surprize me if i flinched, i though at the time that the bullet had just pensiled through and the bird would drop any time but no unfortunately.
@dikmontakolyomso7094
@dikmontakolyomso7094 Год назад
I think after hitting the bird the bullet ricochet and hit the lamb too
@NitroHV
@NitroHV Год назад
Don't worry that sheep was another 60 to 70 yards behind the bird and there wont have been much left of that little 20 grain ballistic tipped bullet after hitting the bird to do anything but scare the sheep.
@samwoolley2796
@samwoolley2796 Год назад
Magpies in my opinion should never be refused! But good shooting David.

Why rush, if there's a time limit on this sport, then the game's lost,..in mu opinion at ;east. Re thinning hair, I was told that folks who waste hormones to grow hair, don't have as much 'fun'! as we do. Is this true? Hahaha!
