There's *a lot* more information on the website. If you're interested in the history, pharmacology, or safety aspects of nitrous oxide, I definitely encourage checking out the page: thedrugclassroom.com/video/nitrous-oxide/ I'd also like to give a special thanks to W.D.A Smith, Rajesh P. Haridas, and H. Edmund G. Boyle, among many others. They wrote (in some cases many decades ago) very useful historical overview papers. Some of the details on the website come from their analyses. It's always great to come across detailed papers of that sort or even better, books. More information will be added over time as there are still papers I need to read. And, of course, thank you to everyone who is supporting The Drug Classroom!
I am curious as to why people say not to use from a whip cream charger dispenser, and to opt for a balloon instead? I only see a balloon as a benefit when using in groups. I have personally used it fairly extensively and prefer it straight from a whip cream dispenser; it is not any colder than if put into a balloon, so what other risks or dangers are present? I also have a cotton filter in the nozzle as to filter out any oils and impurities that seem to be in many chargers, something that I think should be done whether using a balloon or dispenser. As with all things, moderation is key and it shouldn't be used more than a few times a year.
Yea not too many ambulances keep Nitrous Oxide on them anymore due to the fact that all the paramedics and EMTs were getting high off it at the station in between calls lol
Will Smith Why couldn't they plumb it into the engine's intake manifold, along with extra fuel? That's more useful, because it can get patients to hospital faster.
WARNING: when I was in the rave scene in the early 90’s, a couple had a large (blue) tank in their SUV. It was at an afterparty at the beach. Chilly morning. They were hitting it pretty hard when one of them left the valve slightly open. They both passed out with the windows closed. The tank emptied over a few hours and as they were both passed out, they asphyxiated and died. Both were under 25.
I just took laughing gas for a first time, bought a packet of 24 for a tenner. It feels amazing like you're in a dream like state and everything is vibrating, it's amazing and lasts for a short period. It's safe in small amounts and not regularly.
I'm going to assume you know this and, presuming you even still do nos to begin with, please be sure you're supplementing B12 when using on occasion. If you're using like
@thenut420 it's really not worth it. You get one or two hits, and you have to finish an entire can of whip cream. Learn what kind of mushrooms grow in your area and go hunting. It's free.
i was on nitrus in 5th grade at the dentists and i popped out of my body and floated around the room and was looking down at myself then i floated througg the clouds it was the most amazing thing ever i kind of want to try it again
You're unlikely to be able to recreate your experience from the dentist since it's continuously administrated there with oxygen. When using it recreationally, you're only administering it once which results in greatly diminished effects compared to medicinal use.
Nah not in this context, nitrous is a dissociative. Out of body experiences are often reported in strong dissociative experiences. I can assure you they're not near death. Death from nitrous is caused by asphyxiation, which would not likely produce out of body experiences.
First time I used nitrous oxide at the dentist I experienced a full on dissociative state where I had a hallucination that I was in science class. It was quite realistic (as in it felt real in the moment and I couldn't recognize I was under the influence) yet it definitely was dream like as well. Was interesting because I've never had a similar experience from it again, just the more common effects.
Same here man I was like 14 first time I had that stuff at the dentist and man I was floating in the dome shaped thing and all I could do was move my head than all the sudden I spun 3 times and I felt like I landed back in the chair I was trying to tell the dentist what happened and they laughed at me lmfao
@@homealone3182 Never really enjoyed it, coming up felt like I was being pushed backward by a bodybuilder. That combined with the pins and needles was extremely unpleasant
Nitrous oxide feels like a cross between buzzing, tingling, and numbness. It's clearly in the dissociation family, but it feels very different from natural depersonalization/derealization symptoms.
Have you ever had lasting derealization/depersonalization effects? I’ve struggled with dysphoric dissociation with weed and when sober, so it worries me a little bit that this is a symptom with nitrous.
N2O during a psilocybin evening was... one of the most intense experiences I've ever had, no matter how short it lasted. I don't want to praise potentially illegal substances wherever who reads this lives but.. wow. Just... wow. Shot up at lightspeed where sound, feeling, thought and emotion all pulsated together, reaching a weird 'climax' of sorts (not that way, pervs!) in euphoria, visuals and auditory hallucinations. Everything moved, sounded and felt 'in sync' at a rapidly changing pace and I remember laughing really bad and exclaiming ''AHA! So that's what the hippies were talking about with all the love and unity stuff!''. I was unable to properly explain the experience to anyone except for the friend that did the exact same thing and experienced the exact same thing as I did that night ;p
@Josh Noss If you do: just be sure to be in a good state of mind, with someone you trust (preferably) and in a safe environment. Also: do *not* over-use the N2O. It will drain your body's vitamin B12 supply if abused and that has nasty consequences. Just mentioning it because I've read people have a tendency to use way too much of that stuff if it appeals to them. Other than that: have an awesome birthday and if you, by any chance, remember: let us know if you too had a similar experience!
@Josh Noss Good one on being prepared and all and with that last name I think it's meant to be haha. Sounds like you're going to have a blast (quite literally)! If you're in a good state of mind I'm pretty sure you're going to remember this particular b-day trip! ;)
I did this with like 10 other people the other day in a back room at a house party. I've never laughed so much, and I recommend doing this with some of your closest friends and just straight up giggling.
Sounds like you have lost a lot of brain cells ever since that one time you did whip it’s and laughed a lot ...look for psychological help if you need some air that damages you’re brain to help you giggle?? Just SAYING 😕
@Chris Donahue Two things. Firstly, that's a completely different thing altogether. I'm talking about nos and I'll happily link you to a plethora of papers that attest to this firsthand if u want. And, on the whole molly thing anyway; supplements for MDMA are pretty imperative and, tbh, I'm not sure if she said that to try and prod you towards taking something u wouldn't have (def not okay if so), but anyone claiming they could've prevented the deep depressive after effects of molly to you is spewing nonsense. The peak euphoria of molly comes with that pricetag, along with being neurotoxic enough that it should be used sparingly. Guides from harm reduction organizations like rollsafe offer either detailed or 'not as effective but far easier' on supplements to take and WHY they recommend them, what they do, evidence to attest to their efficacy, and what dosages at what times.
100% dude is spitting facts. I somehow also got addicted to nitrous for a few months 100> a day until I broke my back on them. After all the blood tests from the hospital after it I had ridiculously low B12 count in my blood, and I still have to take intramuscular supplements of it. Nangs are fun, but if your susceptible to addiction and in a bad spot in your life, I wouldn’t bother with them because the euphoria can become insanely addictive.
I did it a month ago and I now have peripheral neuropathy that is thankfully not too severe. I didn't even have a B12 problem beforehand. This shit is not safe. You'd be safer snorting cocaine. At least that won't lead to progressive spinal damage.
I've done a balloon with two canisters in at the peak of a 150ug trip. Closest thing I could describe it to would be travelling through one of those black water slides full of lights but everything was fractally. Complete loss of reality. When it wore off I was tripping harder but it wore off after about 10 minutes. Super euphoric.
Doing this at the peak made some weird shit happen for me! After the first time, inhaled, got stuck in time, then whizzed back out again. Girlfriend then went to sit outside as her trip went down a little, then we came back after she settled. I then did another balloon and had a flash of the first balloon being inhaled, then sitting outside with my girlfriend and back inside again - all right before my eyes! The weird thing is the same sequence happened after the second balloon (gf sitting outside and coming back inside again)! Then again after the 3rd, 4th, 5th!! By the 6th balloon I had all 5 other sequences flashing before my eyes until I zoomed back into reality after the 6th hit! It was the strangest thing!
I remember when I took 3 of these in a row without any help from my friend. I thought I was taking a fourth, but in reality it was all in my head and I was just sitting there doing nothing. Realizing that after I "came back" was really funny to me. It's one of the more fun drug experiences I've had.
Brooo I’ve had a very similar thing happen. Took 3 to the dome sitting on the arm of a recliner. Apparently I fell off the recliner had no idea, hallucinated a whole convo with my friends. I came too and they were trying to get me off the floor. I was beyond confused 😂
@@copperfronts1679 they last for like 30-60 seconds in my experience. I think I pulled 6 in a row once. I guess some people are more sensitive to nitrous than others. But me and my friend had the exact same experience. Steve-O used to do 600 per day, so someone's found time to do it :D
@@copperfronts1679 we tried doing it a bit differently so we don't get brain damage. We take a balloon, breathe in and out into the balloon for maybe 30 seconds max, then we take a few breaths of air and the person not doing nitrous prepares a new balloon for the one doing nitrous, 2-4 balloons usually before we switch.
they are interresting, but one should be aware, that the buzz is a drop in blood preassure in the brain. it's assumed to be relatively safe, but daily use (say when one first gets his hands on a bottle) already causes "derpyness", and long term users tend to be living examples for it "melting brain cells". it's a slightly safer alternative to huffing glue.
Hey! I know the message was for dude, but Poppers have been very interesting to me for a long time however for whatever reason it is one of the few "drugs" I have never really put the time into doing legit research on. Im not trying to be a lazy jackass and ask you to tell me everything you know without putting in the work, however I would really like to hear about the basic experience with Amyl Nitrate if you personally "know anyone" that has done it...more so just what its like..is it active on its own or is it something you add to strengthen or prolong other substances..if active on its own how is it usually ingested and what is the basic vibe like and last but not least what if any drugs or class of drugs is it comparable to....alright brother I sincerely appreciate your time....one love
it will affect everyone differently and can even affect you differently if you try it later in life. it can be a life changing experience. each breath makes your head feel clearer and your brain more connected. everyone is different though so if you don't already feel confused and foggy all the time it will probably not do much for you and you shouldn't use it. our bodies all crave things when we get a taste for them. some bodies crave some things more because they just need it more. listen to your body but be aware that the gas can kill you if you do too much. you can do it multiple days in a row if you do only enough to get good feelings for awhile. if you feel sick you have done too much too quickly. any drug that gives you a hangover has been done in too large a quantity. you have got to find a way to only use as much as you need without displacing the oxygen in your body because you cant just feel the nerve damage before it gets you and you definitely wont be able to feel your oxygen level drop which happens even when breathing enough oxygen with the gas. we know people who are paralyzed from it.
It was a very interesting video, thank you for giving honest advice on how it works, its history, how to safely use it, potential risks, and how to mitigate these risks.
Nitrous oxide got me through a root canal. I had been in excruciating pain and I didn't want general anesthesia, so it was a nice compromise. No pain during the procedure, and no feeling of disorientation like I usually get after general anaesthesia.
I did this when really high. I saw square rainbow spirals then each one changed to 4 of them then those changed to four and so on until there were thousands.
CEV's or were eyes opened? I have been trying to achieve OEV with nitrous but the most I can get is waves sort of like mushrooms only things dont shift melt down or gently wave, its more like someone picked my whole wall up and shook it like there trying to get sand out of a beach towel. Now if I close my eyes I can get all types of shifting fractals, changing patterns and even subtle color lines....usually my closed eye visuals on other substances dont have much color its all just shades of grey and black but nitrous and 2c-E (separately) will allow me to have colored CEV's. Also I would like to ask...if this happened with your eyes opened around how much nitrous did you do (one standard size charger is 8 grams of nitrous) how long did it take you to inhale that amount and what method did you use? Thank you so much for your response. I would love to achieve that but just cant get it to happen!!
I once did it whilst very high on cannabis, quite a lot of NOS and it felt very similar to DMT. As in I felt just as removed from my body, launched into the cosmos, but there was less content. No entities, less vivid hallucinations. Its like I was in the DMT realm but not really
I had a weekly refill on a Welders size tank! Food grade was ok,but when they ran out I would drive away with a medical grade tank! This was Dynamite! It took me a lot of painful time to realize that I needed an Oxygen tank!!! 1978-1980! The hallucinations were quite often very intensely disturbing!
1-5 cartridges? Try 1-555 maybe. 5 of them won't last 10 minutes, now about 100 of them will last you a night. You want to do about 5 in a row to really get there :)
I really like history lessons of drugs that have been known for long. Those are the best but drugs that doesn't have detailed history are still interesting.
What I always feel is the wave of numbiness going through my whole body. Like all of the neurons reseting themselves starting from the centre and going in few seconds to my hands and legs. Also I wonder why, but it makes me feel that my stomach irritated after that. Is the mechanism behind that known?
When I used to have them when I was on mdma I used to hear this girls voice shout me Every time my high was ending and it snapped me out of it I know for a fact nobody shouted me
I’ve used this during a dental procedure (cavity). I didn’t want to deal with the numbing gel/injection. I much prefer to use laughing gas and non of the nasty gel and painful injection to numb my mouth for hours. Seriously, not only do you get high but you enjoy the procedure and don’t have to deal with the negatives. But one time I inhaled too much during the procedure and got dissociated and vomited. Big mistake. Breath correctly while using this gas. But still fun if done right.
when people ask me what whippets are like i always tell them it's an interstellar orgasm. you feel like you're orgasming but your vision becomes blurry, sounds are extremely loud (painful almost), you dissociate, and everything gets pushed forward in your field of vision
Oh lemme tell you right now, six nitrous oxide charges, emptied into two balloons, inhaled until you can't take anymore/pass out, that will take you to another world, and you can live a whole other life within the space of 30 seconds, absolutely incredible substance
Make a video on methaqualone! I heard its still smoked with weed in Africa. I smoked etaqualone a lot of times and its similar to nitrous, very nice experience. Isnt that interesting? A fast dissociative relaxed feeling, with laughter, just like no2. Its very interesting. And people know methaqualone from the Wolf of Wall Street. Cheers!
I used to make myself pass out with nitrous while on mdma or acid and dmt, but I had these waking nightmares where I was transported to what felt like a real place, down a long tube full of screaming or surrounded by demons.. I haven't done it since! Had real ptsd from those experiences, every time I fell asleep I'd go into one of those places.
Last July after 7 months of everyday use (200 or more) I lost feeling in my legs and hands. I couldn't walk for around two months without help or something to hold on to.
n2o will actually catapult you through all iterations of your existence in the multiverse at super speed. I experienced the same sub-1-second moment repeated a vast amount of times with slight variations all at super speed until landing in *this* universe. (Acid may have been involved on this occasion) That reverberation sound you hear? That's because all the universes have very slight variations and as you traverse them you hear the difference in sound. ...Or maybe it's just chemicals messing with your neurological biochemistry.
As far as i know there is barely any connection to psychedelic use, but i was wondering if youd want to do a vid on Valerian Root? Since use is so common and widespread. I've heard talk about it having dissociative effects and the ability to get you "stoned" in a way when used in high doses. Might be a lot of research though, for likely not a lot of interest within this community if you can even call it that :P cheers, really good video
My brother use to take NOS balloons, he one day woke up and had become a different person. He was a smart college student that played baseball for the school. He now has schizophrenia and it does not come genetically from our family. I will not recommend people use NOS as we believe he got it from this. He admits it was NOS that triggered it, and doctors say they don't know. Truth is when and if it damages you, help is hard to get. He now suffers from voices and thoughts and has ruined his life. I know there is no proof of it but he begs to have his old life back and the only thing he at the time was that. Please be aware of NOS and its effects to each individual and yourselves on how you feel. And remember if you are damaged by this, who can help. From experience, the answer is no one and your left to suffer taking meds to make you feel somewhat straight.
Effets are like x10 while on Lsd, I never got visuals before, but did while also on acid. Also had a weird experience where a high pitched sound but not very loud coming from speakers near made me feel like a weird range of sensations, kind of like a from low to high sensory tingling and tightness, similiar to when you're sneezing. Felt like I slow sensations going from low(legs tingling), to high (teeth hurting) I don't know how to describe it better lol I tried to reproduce it but couldn't Very weird
wow thanks, this was super useful! can you please explain what would be the best way to actually use nitrous? I've seen people just breathing in and out a balloon but also people who took all of the air in at once and hold it as long as possible. which way is safer? thanks in advance!
Either can be acceptable. The key is that you only want to have a short period of time during which you're primarily taking in N2O. So, you can take a deep single breath, hold it, and let it go. Or you can breath in/out from a balloon a few times. Either way, you should then step away from the N2O and return to normal breathing for a while, preferably over 10 minutes. It's when people hit balloon after balloon after balloon that they run into trouble. Another tip is to engage in some deep breathing right before using N2O.
Think dentist had mine turned down, the only time I had it at 14 was left on it 5 minutes then he asked" you feeling funny" I said no. He giggled and picked up a needle said " you will now". Man 5 of what ever that was he wasn't lying. Had help jump start a car after it was like a comedy show in the dentist parking lot.
I love dancing on nitrous. What I do sometimes with friends, we put down some mattresses and turn off the lights, get stoned, get a balloon and put on some dnb or hi tech psytrance and just go. It feels absolutely amazing to dance on nitrous but you should take care not to hurt yourself or others
I messed around with nitrous oxide because I thought it was more or less harmless. While i enjoyed it a number of times, I absolutely cant stand the stuff after having a bad experience with it. I experienced total derealization, in which I left reality (via sinking through the ground and travelling through the foundation of the earth), thought I was dead, saw the multiverse (sort of), learned the true nature of life and death, before finally coming back. It was the scariest thing I can possibly imagine and I never want to experience anything even remotely similar. The closest thing I can compare it to is gaining some sort of forbidden eldrich knowledge, or reading an elder scroll, or something like that. I felt like reality was a facade, like a paper poster covering up the TRUE nature of reality, and I'd torn it away and looked behind reality at what was really going on. That may SOUND cool, but I promise it's absolutely awful. Everything you've ever known is in THIS reality, and it feels like it just got ripped away from you. It's feels very much like you're dying.
@@5lanediver It was shown to me visually, in the shape of a disc or puck. Id say "wheel" but that'd imply that it's cyclical, which its very much not. It's only a wheel in the sense that it's a defined puck-like 3d shape, that can only be viewed in an understandable way by the human mind from one specific sideline angle. If you view a puck from the side, you're gonna see something like a rectangle (if you think of it like a 2d circle, a sideline view would be a straight 1d line). This side of the puck is a gradient between life and death, with one end being life and the other being death, with the middle somewhere between. However, this is not to imply one would travel from one side to the other as they die. Everywhere between the two extremes is a state in and of itself, that one would not normally experience, except for a near-death experience, which is actually an entirely separate non-life and non-death position. This gradient, which I think of as the "near side of life and death" is the maximum a human mind can understand when it comes to life and death. I asked, because I didnt know if I was alive or dead, and I was given an answer. I was told it wouldnt make a lot of sense, and that i simply couldnt understand the rest of it, but could conceive of the shape, at least in theory. So the far side of life and death is ALSO some form of existence, the extremes of which are life and death as we know it, but the middle ground is something completely foreign to the human experience. And that's only the surface, since the overwhelming majority would be in the middle of the wheel/puck, which is completely separate from life and death as we understand it, but IS part of the nature of life and death as it truly is. I dont know if that qualifies as profound or not, because all I really learned was there's more to life and death than we know, or could know, and its definable in 3-dimensional space. So it's less of "I learned the true nature of life and death" and more of "I learned life and death has a nature that is clearly and measurably defined, and was shown the definition of it, even if the details arent known to me or anyone else"
@@partytequila4785 jesus dude, hope you feel better soon. It took me a little bit to fully feel confident in the world around me, but I got there and you will too.
I did some with my friends the other night and they all had a great time while I felt like I had a, while very short lasting, a pretty bad trip. It basically felt like an anxiety attack. Has anyone else experienced this?
bbosch that also happened to a friend of mine, but he was drunken, so it's possible that the alcohol had some negative impact on the effect... He never inhaled a balloon since then, it had to be pretty strange.
I've had several bad experiences with N2O. When I go deep, it sometimes feels like I stop to exist. But it is all fine and I am still learning to let go.
My experience with nitrous oxide (even when on lsd, dmt, mushrooms, etc.) has always been the same. The first fifteen seconds will give you a “whop whop whop whop” feeling till you come back. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun! But boring without literally anything else on a recreational sense.
I tried inhaling nitrous when I was when I was a kid suffering from anxiety depression attack.there was no good feeling from for me.i felt numbing buzzing allover my body made me more depressed.i felt like the medical industry and authority were gassing me me to death with no health products access.now ihave clays minerals vitamins herbs berries vegetables.i.m 50 years old I rode almost a thousand miles on my new ebike.in fives months.i can't pass my written test for my drivers liscence so i'll probably die of a heart attack trying get a break from being trapped in my home because there are no busses near where I live.
I've heard that flavored Nitrous Oxide tanks have oils in them to flavor and that doing too many of these flavored N2O can cause pneummonnia, is this true?
Don't do a lot. I screwed up my b12 which messed with my spine (back pain and tingels), changed the way I walked (sprained knee). I just hope I can bounce back.
@@GeraldBlack1 Sorry for the late reply, is 20 cartridges per 2 weeks alright? I did 5 yesterday on new years eve and I thought thats dangerous so I cant stop googling about them and effects of them.
Back in 1975, HIGH TIMES mag sold a pipe that had a holder and and fitting that held a gas canister of nitrous.so you could smoke and gas up at the same time. Open flame, lighters, weed, and gas. It was appropriately called the buzz bomb.never used it, but still have One
Ok I have a question....I am relatively new to N20 and up until last night I had only experimented with taking smaller hits, a 8 gram charger would probably have been 3 to 4 lungfulls and it was a nice unique interesting buzz while it lasted. Yesterday I finally got the technique down to fill up balloons without wasting much gas....found out 8 grams in one lung full was a little more intense so then made the decision to put 16 grams in one balloon filled up 2 balloons each with 16 grams begin to try to hit them back to back till they were both gone.....not sure if i ended up finishing the second one but what happened next was something i have never felt in my life and i am very experienced with almost everything else......I was watching a paul oakenfold show from the trancemission tour and the next thing I knew I had no vision for some fucking weird ass reason I actually convinced myself I had died and the twisted noises I was hearing was my soul leaving but was so high I dint realize if I was dead I wouldnt be thinking I dont know how else to describe it but i honestly thought I was dead then just as quick as I convinced myself I was dead I just started saying fuck because I was raging pissed I had died then everything just came back all the sudden paul oakenfold was back playing on my computer right in front of me then i noticed I was rubbing my hands together and said fuck yes my hands oh shit theres my legs what IM HERE!!!! Then as soon as I realized that everything started coming back to me....It actually scared the hell out of me once I came back but that quickly faded into this really really good sense of well being that I have had ever since that experience.....The weirdest part of the whole dilemma is when I started coming back too I was seeing these weird closed eye visuals thinking to myself this has to be what it feels like when people say they died and came back and feel like there are re born again and get into religion really heavy.....im still confident that fleeting thought is still exactly what people feel when that happens....The only reason this still some what scares me is because I know alot of people that do nitrous some failry heavy and have been researching it for a long time and I have never read or heard of anyone that has experinced what I did....either this is compleletely normal on nitrous or I have a undiagnosed mental issue that is set off by nitrous....only i think thats not the case maybe because it couldnt have been more then 2 minutes from my first puff and i felt completely normal just carying this really nice sense of well being and almost understanding of sorts and am really awestruck if you will just by the experience......I WOULD REALLY LOVE ANY FEEDBACK!!!!!
Just sounds like you were on the brink of losing consciousness but not quite there. Nitrous Oxide is quite an unique drug in that one hit is not like the next, my friends would always describe this as getting a strong charger when in reality it's more likely to be a complex combination of factors. Another factor with Nitrous Oxide that was mentioned in the video is amnesia which further complicates communicating experiences. As somebody who used to abuse Nitrous Oxide way more than I'd like to admit, I want to make it very clear that the drug tricks you into believing there's something to learn from it. When in reality it's quite similar to people coming up with "genius" ideas while stoned, it's just a cheap thrill not to be confused with psychedelics. Dissasociatives are a good drug to turn to if you wan't to become unconscious not expand your consciousness.
first drug i ever got high on was nitrius. 7th grade got me teeth pulled loved the high. then a year later got more teeth pulled and they said "are you worried" i said "no i like it" my mom says "Oh he loves it hes like 'Just rip em out'" and the doctor looks at me and says "thats how you end up with a drug problem" and im like:😔
