I decided to buy this scooter from a local shop here to replace my car since I started working from home and it has been amazing. It is plenty sturdy to hold some grocery bags on the handlebars with enough range to get me anywhere I want in town. It was more expensive from the local shop than on Amazon but having someone walk me through all the features and the promise of in-town repairs and replacement parts made it well worth it. I've been caught in the rain on it a few times with no water damage issues but I would head to the nearest shelter if it started pouring. The wheels can slip if turning on wet roads and have taught me the hard way how dangerous that can be so it really should only be used on dry days even if it was waterproof. The brakes feel very strange to use but it seems to engage the electronic brakes just by letting up on the throttle so I haven't had reason to use the hand brakes except in some near collisions.
@RedVRCC
@RedVRCC Год назад
I didn't replace my car with mine rather I use it as a complement to it, but I agree with what you said. It's a cheaper and much more efficient way of getting around town. If I need to go somewhere nearby, I will ride this instead. Sometimes, I even get there quicker since I can simply bypass many parts of traffic that I would get stuck in while driving a car.

As this was my first time on a scooter at all let alone a powered e-scooter, I like the tutorial it made me go through. my only issue with it, was I wish there was a spot in the app or somewhere to quick reference, the button press options and what they do. I finally figured most of it out through trial and error.
@jokerace6395
@jokerace6395 2 года назад
If you turn off the regenerative brake from the app then the e brake engage only with the front brake (and not also as your letting of the throttle)and is far more soft

Great review. We live close to a Niu store (Bowery & Rivington in Manhattan), I bought mine on a Saturday (Rose Gold) and hubby was so enamored he bought the black one on Sunday. Very nice that they were already assemble, and we got a quick lesson from the rep, Daniel. Definitely agree that getting out of E-Save and watching the safety video can be a pain, but other than that this is an amazing scooter. We had a Segway Ninebot Max previously (and a specially made one from an E-bike store), and there is a major difference between the two, especially the battery with 48v. We love them. There is a hill in Chinatown (Chrystie Street going towards Canal) that is about 15-20 degrees incline, and bumpy. The Niu climbs with ease, and the tires give me a smoother ride than the Segway.

@@DreamsInHD I should have specified, I have the KQi2 (the better one of the 2, can't remember which) but even that one is great, I'd assume the 3 would be even better. Best buy was running a great deal that brought the price for the 2 down to just $400 which fit within my budget. The 3 was just too expensive for me then. The 2 can reach about 18mph/28kmh and I'm not too certain on its range but it gets me around town all day before needing a recharge. I'd guess about 20 miles for typical city riding at about half speed a lot of the time with full speed only down quiet residential streets.

I've had the Pro since November. Really great and so happy you liked it since this is my first and only. I live in Barcelona, which has super bumpy sidewalks (tile). The tires cushion very well and U find the ride quite pleasant. In Europe, it is limited to 15.5 mph. No flats yet, and the tires are still rock-hard. The tutorial was not a big deal for me as I was well-aware before i got it. Having to plug it in before turning it on is a safety feature for shipping. The accelerator is a little sticky sometimes, but if you are conscious about it, it's not bad. Enjoy!!!

I didnt realize that it wasn't waterproof. We live on Vancouver Island and it rains a lot here. We commute in the rain as well. So it will be hard to judge when to ride it and when not to. Turning it on the first time, I read the battery is set to factory default, so it does need to be plugged in the first time before turning it on. I found it an easy ride, but then i've never ridden a scooter before I tried my son's out. We just got ours, and I still have to break mine in. His is a sport, mine is a pro. It only took under 4 hours to charge ours, but maybe it had some charge in the battery already.

I tested the Sport and Pro version at a demo event and bought two for me and my lady. The difference in power between the Sport and Pro is very noticeable and I'd go with the Pro, it's well worth the extra money. These scooters are quite a bit more expensive in Europe; in Germany you can get a Pro for 750-800eur (800-850usd), but in the Nordics the Pro is a whopping 899eur (960usd), ouch ☹

you know what's funny? This scooter actually does have the Licence plate holder (the big empty space on the rear mud guard) in the version you got, even though it doesnt even need it anywhere outside of germany. It needs licence plate holder, in order to be legal here in Germany. So tehy simply used the same thing for the international version. even though it clearly is not the same device, since the german version (both sport and pro) is limited to 20 km/h due to the legal speed limit. While your Pro version goes 32 km/h

I have the pro version. I agree that it is a solid scooter. I like most things about it with the exception being that I think it is power restricted. It reaches top speed fairly quickly (20mph display, but closer 18.5mph on GPS) and then it feels like it stops a little abrupt at the speed ceiling. I have both the old and pro version of the dual motor mercane WideWheel 48v system and the single motor 48v E-twow gt se. The weight of the Kqi3 is closer to the old version WideWheel, but power is less than the single motor E-twow. So I believe the Kqi3 to be a little overweight and underpowered. I hope someone will figure out how to unlock the speed to a solid gps speed of 20-22 mph, which I believe is very realistic. After the most recent update, the app requires me at every single time, to go through the tutorial which I find annoying. Before the recent “update” the scooter had no cruise control. Now it does have this feature after the update which I find very useful on long stretches. I agree that the kick start shouldn’t be the only option. In fact, my wife had trouble as you mentioned when she tried to cross a busy road while kicking and hold the throttle. I figured out how to use this quickly, but my wife finds it less intuitive relative to other scooters that we have including a unlocked Ninebot ES3. The brakes work as you described. The brakes bite in a intuitive but then abrupt manner when the magnetic brake is delay-activated in tandem. I’d also like to mention that I think the kick stand is very good. Stem lock mechanism is very good as you reported. The charge port and plug are unique, so this causes some challenges for anyone who wants to use a advanced battery charger such as the cycle satiator brand. I appreciate your very thorough review ! You have helped to set the bar high, thanks 👍🏻

@raylivengood8040 2 года назад
@@jokerace6395 you would be correct if there was a regulatory body in charge of enforcing wattage claims, but there isn’t. Some manufacturers/brand’s claim the correct wattage and others do not. Based on my own experience of having owned between 250w -1000w nominal motors, I stand by that hunch lol. I would honestly have to look at the controller as this article by Micah Toll indicates. *calculating the peak power of an ebike is simple. You just multiply the voltage of the battery by the maximum current the ebike can handle. The maximum current is determined by the ebike’s controller, and is usually somewhere between 15-30 amps. An ebike with a 48V battery and a 20 amp peak controller would theoretically be capable of a nominal 960 watts of instantaneous power.

Got here early, new to electric scooters so all of these videos I find are months or years old. Appreciate the thoughts from channels like this detailing subjective findings to determine which one I may pick up. So far it is the Vsett 9+ but I think it will be a yesr before I really see due to there only being a pilot project at my location up to 24km/h, 500W motor max. If this comment is read, it would be nice to see a Vsett 9+ vs Vsett 10+ if possible but this scooter is a more budget friendly contender anyway with a few quirks however.

For me, the NIU KQI3 and KQI2 are almost the perfect scooters. The build quality, performance, and stability are unbeatable at their price point. The only downside for both models is their weight and size. They are simply too heavy and too *massive for their class. A 20mph top speed + 30-mile range (15 miles actual range) scooter weight above 42 lb is hard to accept. Both NIU scooters are something that has to *park outside of Starbucks instead bring it in with you. Hope NIU can release a Lite version of the KQI2 or KQI3.

The scooter is awesome. I just got it yesterday and only went out for 30 min. When I got home to check on tire, I saw a nail and just a little wiggled. The air start coming out. So, I emailed a request to fix the tire. They said no warranty and I’ll have to pay for the tire. Plus fix it myself. That’s the sad part.

Are the reflectors actual plastic or just stickers? I've seen some of these scooters have cheap reflective stickers that peel off.

Have you compared this scooter to the hiboy s2 pro. The specs are much better on the hiboy. The design and the deck on NIUscooter is better. But Hiboy offers more for a lower price. 500w motor, Rear suspension, 11.5 amp battery, optional seat and solid tires (that's a debate) but I prefer not to fix flats on these scooters as they are not simple.

@@Ospinaeco Of course, everyone is different. What is heavy for me might not be heavy for you. But remember, we are taking about lifting the scooter with one hand, going up and down stairs with it, carrying it during long tansfers from one metro line to another... getting on and off trains with steep steps, etc. Plus, I was talking about the KQI MAX which is even heavier than 20 kilos.

I’m pissed because I was just short of getting the 3 and needed something for work and dr visits ASAP so I had to go with the 2, but the 2 I have no real complaints with just needs to enable full use of the motor it has because it for sure has more to offer and could really use a better top speed even by a little bit would do it fine and also an option to get full toque from zero start if you so choose because of situations especially in traffic.

Paused at 3:25, I have to admit, although I can see the tutorial being a bit annoying NIU is doing their due diligence in ensuring people take responsibility and show they are competent to use the scooter. Back to the video, so far I have enjoyed it, this scooter is on a maybe list for myself and my son, I like the American price better lol oh well

I'm thinking the max version may be worth a look at, self healing tires and breaking system that puts energy back into the batteries extending range a bit
