I love this Bible, both because it's gorgeous, and for the content. My biggest beef which I'm shocked you didn't mention is that the "word studies" have no depth and are pretty much just "word mentions with a gloss) and that there should be more notes. I'm simply wish it had more content overall in the same vein. And I totally agree about endnotes being evil, as opposed to footnotes on the same page!! This is one of the few FULLY EGAL study Bibles anywhere, and a great resource for some Hebraic thought, but thru a broadly evangelical lens. I have a hardcopy and have it in Olive Tree software.

JM, If you had to pick some of your favorite cultural background resources whether they be study Bibles, textbooks, or popular level books, what would you recommend? (Two that come to mind for me would be the Archaeological Study Bible, and Destroyer of the gods by Larry Hurtado.)

I enjoyed your informative review of the NIV First Century Study Bible. One thing confused me: in my copy published in 2014, I find notes on the battle between David and Goliath on page 376 that gives the information on Goliath’s height and the weight of his armor. I will watch your other Bible reviews because I have several study Bibles, and appreciate your overviews of their features. Blessings!

I do love your great sense of "whitty" humor, "Dust cover is really glossy, so I'm just gonna pull that off . . . & the book is STILL glossy!!!" I almost stopped snickering by the time you got to the "end notes" I dint hear no music!!! I'm trying to figure out your t-shirt . . . from 2 Corinthians 2: ?? I'll find it for sure, all I could think of was, " By now, he stinketh!" Wow, I just noticed something, red hair, pale skin!!!, bet you get freckles with your sunburn - you look like Scotty from Star Trek (no, you did not expect me to say that) . . . are you Scottish or Irish?

Is there a significant difference between this and Zondervan's Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible? I noticed they use some of the same charts so I wasn't sure if that was their updated version of this, in a sense. I have the Cultural Backgrounds Study Bible and wasn't sure how much I was missing out on with this and wanted to get your take. Thank you!

You're not missing anything. The CBSB is more comprehensive. This one is by a single contributor and focuses on the 1st century.

Since so much of it is from the Zondervan study Bible is it worth paying the premium people want for this out of print study Bible?

personally I don't think it is. If you could get it for a good price used, that's what I'd recommend.

@@DiscipleDojo Thanks. With nearly 40 study bibles on my shelf already and probably 10 more I know I want, every study Bible I can take a pass on helps stop my wallet from bleeding.
