I was born in Nigeria. I sang this anthem when I was in elementary school before freedom came to South Africa. It was even translated into my native tongue, Efik. Today I still get goosebumps listening to it. The best ever.
I'm from Germany and when I was a kid I saw the musical Sarafina in Munich. Must have been 1988 or 1989. When the artists sang nkosi siikelele Africa I stood up and raised my fist with them crying. I had no connection to Africa, but I felt their pain and hope.

same here I am an American but thinking of it being a three way song between a local language, Afrikkans (Dutch colonial language) and English makes me at least have had a hope for South Africa but I write this just after the international bond exchange rated their national credit unworthy of even optimistic investment. What a sad day.

I'm from Finland. As a small kid in school we used to sing this song called "Siunaa koko maailmaa" which means Bless the whole world. It had the same melody as this anthem. Respect South Africa!

I'm hoping you aren't South African and actually don't know who the Boere are. The Boere are white afrikaner descendents of Dutch settlers, they were the oppressors and discriminators. The vast majority of white South Africans, especially white afrikaans people don't feel any of the things you speak of because they're protected by owning the majority of the wealth in the country. If you knowingly called the "boer" nation the jewels of this country that is blatantly racist. Yes I know not all white people are racist Apartheid lovers, but to say they face constant racism and oppression is total nonsense. That is the plight of black african South Africans who live in poverty and have no public voice. I honestly hope you do not know who "boers" are otherwise you need to educate yourself and understand what the privileges of being white are in this country.
The majority of the actual boers left the country to take up farming operations in South America and New Zealand. Secondly boer is just afrikaans for farmer. I'm talking about the boer nation as a whole most of which aren't farmers. The nation isn't even fed by them because the best quality crops and produce are exported. Your comment about farmers is ignorance at its finest, white farmers getting murdered by a black person accounts for such a small percentage of crime, think about this for a second every minute a woman is raped in South Africa, over 90% of them being black, you come tell me now how isolated white farmers being killed shows whites are oppressed, crime is crime, the farmers are usually killed for being terrible employers or simply by drug addicts not because they're white. Secondly the country was not founded by the Dutch. Jan van Riebeck simply started one colony, the portuguese and british had other colonies all of which were eventually won in war, without the consent of africans by the british. South Africa cannot just become like Zimbabwe, both nations were members of the empire. The country is great because the oppressors used slave labour of black africans to build the nation. The Apartheid system was specifically designed to oppress blacks and promote white afrikaaners as the superior race, just as a side not white afrikaners hate the british due the anglo boer war and all english whites were looked upon with disdain, however many of them worked to liberate this country from the racist reigme. Europeans won't leave South Africa, we are a constitutional democracy, I mean London Mines have been year for over a century even after we left the empire. Your idea that colonisation was good and well is racist and ignorant. Dividing a continent up and taking land just because you feel yourself superior is not beneficial. Please educate yourself because you clearly know nothing of the human horror stories of colonisation and Apartheid, the Holocaust lasted a decade, Apartheid last 4 times that long, decades of slavery, torture and murder at the hands of a white afrikaans government shows exactly why they were oppressors. I by know means dislike white people, I attended school with many intelligent white people, many afrikaans themselves who agree that Apartheid was a tragedy and that it is ludicrous that the country has a population that is 85% black but 90% white owned. South Africa is the example for Africa because the oppressive government was removed by democracy not blood shed. The country moves forward because day by more black and white people come together. Your ideas belong in the 1920s you need a reality check and a history lesson. The fact you think that the Dutch founded South Africa is sad because you are British and should know the country became the Union in 1910 and left the commonwealth in 1961 returning in 1992.
Come to think of it Australia and South Africa are pretty similar. Hot and dry. Both originally British colonies. They also have semi-similar accents and have famous prisoners.

I'm from Cameroon, I love the South African National Anthem. Had teary eye when it was sung during the 2019 rugby World cup in which eventually Siya Kolisi lifted the Webb Ellis trophy. I hope next week Sarurday the 28th Oct he lifts it again to give us memories of Nelson Mandela.
My mom tried to teach me this as part of my heritage as a kid. I come back to this as an adult regretting not being more interested in where I'd come from and giving her the patience to listen.

I once heard a Palestinian sing the anthem of South Africa, he said it gave him hope that Palestine would one day be free and to live peacefully among its former occupiers.
