Another great year of Steam In The Valley in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Thanks to the Fort Wayne Historical Society and the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for 3 great weekends of train chasing.
Some scenes shot with a Sony Action Cam on a 5 foot Jib pole with Feiyu Tech Gimbal to keep it steady

I recall vividly spending a week in the village of Ramsay, Ontario. My grandfather was station master. Amazing to see the huge CN and CP steam engines roaring through the village. Interesting way they did messages. Someone would stand beside the track with a big hoop on a long stick. As the train passed, the engineer would put his arm out the window, grab the message and drop the hoop. This was back about 1952. How times have changed. Alas, when the lumber company pulled out, Ramsay became a ghost town. I understand people still make the 20 mile trip from a main road with 4 x 4's into the area for the great fishing and to camp. Wonderful memories.

The 765 never fails to impress, nor does the FWRHS. Such a fine group of people.

An outstanding video and audio production--as usual. Too bad the overall appearance of Engine 765 has been changed for the (much) worse by an addition to the coal compartment of her tender. Now the tail is wagging the dog, so to speak.

I agree that it does not look good on her, but it was somewhat necessary. The 765 had a VERY busy year in 2015, hauling excursions all over the NS system and traveling as far as Buffalo, New York. In fact, for 2015, the 765 was the busiest mainline steam locomotive in the country, so while it didn’t look good, it had to be done.

Why is going back to earlier coal from newer oil needed ? Does oil burning pollute more ? Or is it something to do with MPE (miles per emptied tender ) $$ ? I.E., is it a fuel cost consideration ? Could do without the fish eye effect..(engine bending like that)...Never the less, it's a great shoot !! Thanks

Mr. Fergson, I think your videos are fantastic. I especially liked the ones shot with the pole. I also know the locations you pick to shoot from are not easy to walk back into, which you get that one and can not catch up to the train. I would like to know more about the pole, such as ,can it be used with a variety of cameras. I looked into the computer, but have not seen any quit like the one you are using. I would love to learn how to use a drown, but can't use it in the park anyway, so the pole would be a cheap way to get some other angles. Talk to me. Larry Blanchard ( Trainmaster CVSR) 330 697 4004.

+Larry Blanchard Hi, everything is custom you cant buy it in a store. I bought a Glide Gear Action Jib System AXJ 1000, it came with a stabilizer that works with weights it was to heavy and did not stabilize very good.Bought a Feiyutech G4 Gs Gimbal that works on batteries. You find everything at B&H Photo
