In May of 1980, the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society brought their newly-restored Nickel Plate Road steam locomotive No. 765 to the Toledo, Peoria & Western Railway for break-in runs and excursions. These Super 8mm films, shot by and recently given to me by Roger Kujawa, show some of these trips.

Absolutely fantastic footage, especially for that era. I had no idea that 765 went all the way to Keokuk, I’d love to see some film of that.

The opening scene with the C&IM-led empty BN coal train at Pekin was likely shot in the early 1970s.

The C&IM scene was filmed at the same time of the steam excursions (it was on the same reel as some steam scenes). The truck crossing the tracks ahead of the train also appears to be a 1977 Ford.

@@StationAgentProductions Ryan Crawford would probably disagree. We were thinking that the C&IM units would have lost their lightning stripe c. 1975. I wasn't sure.

@@bn13814 Looking at the photos of some online, I think that's correct. I'll see if I can find more info - it seems a little odd to me that it would be on the same reel as some steam clips because one would think the film would've expired between 1975 and 1980.

I tend to agree that the red striping was long gone by 1980, and I'm actually a little surprised to see it at all here. Those BN cars must have been very new in this film. Notice also the locomotives appear to still have their pilot footboards.
