To be fair, and I don't like Coldplays music, they were not offended, if Oli really wanted to make a protest, they wouldn't of played Happy song, they would've done Shadow Moses and Oli would've jumped on the table shouting "This is Sempiternal"
Oli knew it was Coldplay, he touched the shoulder of Chris Martin before getting on the table. It wasn't random. I love both bands and its one of my fave videos hands down. Metal af
+Touka Kirishima SO CLAP YOUR HANDS TO THE SOUND OF EVERY FIRSTBORN DYING NOW WATCH THE RIVERS FLOW WITH BLOOD DEATH WILL STAND WHERE LIFE ONCE STOOD Indeed,it would have been.
I love how in interviews, they're always either drug or suspiciously high or hungover, it's hilarious how much they don't give a shit, but to have a good time =p and their music is still pretty good, maybe not so much live but ey
It would have been 10 times better if they played a song from their album, Sempiternal (preferably Antivist or Shadow Moses) which evidently would show the logo on the screen behind them - the logo which "accidentally" copied by fucking Coldplay.
Here's my thing: Sempiternal has been around for two years before Coldplay released their shitshow (Sempiternal is 2013; Head full of Shit is 2015). Flower of Life is way too iconic to pass as a coincidence. Sempiternal has been out there long enough that if you google the symbol, one way or the other, BMTH's album is going to show up and they must have seen it. So at the very least, it's either a bad researching on Coldplay's part OR they saw Sempiternal, tweaked it a bit and went with it anyway cold-blooded. Which goes to my second point. Of course, they made it look a little different and used different colors. They had to. If they didn't, how else are they gonna make us think that it's their original idea for an album cover? And lastly, here's my logic to it: If there's some guy out there decided to start selling his brand with the Check Symbol (which he made just a bit different and used different color from Nike's), you and I and especially Nike are only rightful to question that person or at least doubt his course of action. To sum this all up, it takes a bigger faith to believe that this is just pure coincidence rather than to accept that this is just a band ripping off a symbol that has already been made famous by a way more awesome band. I mean, it has happened before several time, why would this be a different case? Especially with this kind of symbol.... Okay, this has gone way too long. I know to some, my opinions about this might come off as crazy. But I'm just being passionate about the bands I love.
Isaac Avenido Okay, I understand your point. Though, me being a huge fan of both Coldplay and Bring Me The Horizon must say I don't see a problem with this. Here's why. I listened to both albums A head full of dreams and Sempiternal and really liked both of them. I also think that the flower of life fits very well with both of the albums. They both represent overcoming a hard phase in life. Chris Martin had a break up with his wife and the Album AHFOD is representing a positive message of when these types of things happen. While Oliver wrote Sempiternal because he was over coming drugs and alcohol. Both albums are representing over coming difficult situations in life which the flower of life also represents. Being reborn into something better. This being said, if the Albums have similar meanings, why can't their album art be similar? Yes, BMTH used the flower of life first, and yes they made it famous, but they didn't trademark that symbol. Nor should they have. The flower of life is something anyone and everyone should be free to use. Not just one band. Also, who really cares if Colplay "copied" them? Does it do BMTH any harm? No, it doesn't. It's just a Symbol. Also, I Googled images of the flower of life and didn't see BMTH's album cover there. Nor Coldplays. This only means they very well could've not known that a band used that symbol. But, again, who really cares if their symbols look similar and their both the flower of life. I say, if they both really connect with that symbol they should both be able to use it. No matter who used it first.
***** Thanks for sharing your input. I guess I haven't thought at it the way you do. That trademark thing, I know that's true but I couldn't get behind that. I mean, just because one thing isn't illegal, doesn't mean you should do it, right? I don't know. I guess I'm looking at it at a pyschological point of view, not in technical terms. Like Asking Alexandria for example. While they didn't actually invent the genre, they have this distinctive sound in Stand Up and Scream and some songs from their next ones, that if you heard the song, you'll know it's them. Then suddenly this band named Make Me Famous came out with an album and they sound awfully just like AA. And that kinda felt off for me. I know nothing's wrong with it, but why would you do it? Do you see my point? That's just how i see it with coldplay and BMTH. So there it is. I couldn't get behind that logic that we must let Coldplay get away with it because of some technicality. I actually wanted to try and listen to Coldplay because my friends do but I never got around it for some reason. And because of all of this, I don't think there's a reason for me to try now. Plus there's a lot of bands out there that have had albums about overcoming something and yet we only see this two bands use flower of life. Isn't that something? I guess you're right too about googling the symbol. I guess when i googled it, i just cared enough to scroll down long enough to see Sempiternal. Which i really did. Also, if you're really asking who cares about who copied from whom or not? I think you could count Oli to that. I mean, that stunt he did at that awards night, unconciously or not, high/drunk or not, I believe at the bottom of his deepest core, he would've done that either way. And that's another thing that I can't get past - that what happened at the event was pure coincidence. So that would mean to say that Oli used the Flower of life symbol and then Coldplay "by chance" used the same symbol years after, and then months later this event came around, BMTH performed and drunk Oli went off the stage and "randomly" picked a table to trash and that "happened" to be the table of - oh you guessed it right - the only other band in the planet who used the same symbol that they did. All coincidence? That's a reach. At least for me. It's really hard for me to believe that this is just coincidence. I think I'm beating this too much to the ground. I'm not really claiming they stole it. My only point is that there's enough doubts to raise questions rather than leave it to coincidence.
Isaac Avenido That's true, you may even be right about it not being a coincidence. Though, if Coldplay did see BMTH's album cover and used it anyway, I don't think they did it to offend BMTH. Chris Martin seems like a great guy and I don't see him trying to get someone mad. I think most of it was a misunderstanding. Maybe Oliver took it the wrong way and I know that symbol was really close to him and he sought it as unique and something nobody used before so I can understand why he got upset when Coldplay used it. Though, like I said before I don't Coldplay meant for it to look bad or to steal an idea from BMTH. I mean for me, it's really cool that two of my favorite bands used the same symbol. Not only that, but when I look at BMTH's flower of life (a darker looking album cover), I don't get reminded about Coldplay's at all. I think about the music and meaning behind that specific album. The darkness, the sadness, and the the demons we all fight is what comes to mind. Same goes for Coldplay's flower of life (A more colorful one), I don't think about BMTH's flower of life, I think about love, happiness, and freedom. Which is expressed in that album. So, in a way I don't really think coldplay "copied" them. I just think they both took that symbol, made it how they wanted it to look, and put a deep meaningful story behind it. Which is what I see when I look at each cover. Now with that being said, I do think both album covers fit perfectly with each album. I don't think Chris was trying to copy an album cover, I just think he was trying to take the flower of life and put his own meaning into it.
Coldplay singer Chris Martin had never heard of Bring Me The Horizon before their performance at NME’s award ceremony. so Chris now you know Bring Me The Horizon? yea thats good idea for introduce BMTH by trashing Coldplay's table. Hail King Oli~!
I don't buy that story for a second. It just HAPPENED to be Coldplay's table? And he just HAD to kick all the shit over? And he just HAD to break it and walk off? I'm not completely sold on this lol
Pathetic man. He intentionally got butt hurt cause Coldplay used the Flower of Life but I didn't know that it was owned by that trash wannabe musician.
Whoever was nearest it happened to be coldplay 😂😂 bro he walked through the crowd and get on the table 😂 that was fucking dopeeeeeeeeeee 🤟 Oli that was fucking metal
