Oregon State fought to earn their first top five road victory in program history against Colorado, dominating much of the game en route to a 65-59 win over the No. 4 Buffs.
The win was the Beavers fifth straight and gave them 20 wins for the first time in three years and at the fastest rate since 2016-17. They also completed regular season sweeps of the mountain schools for the first time since 2019-20.
After Colorado took a small early lead, the Beavers put on the pressure and didn't look back for the rest of the game. They led for more than 36 minutes with the largest lead being 25 at the end of the third quarter.
"This team competed at just an incredible level of focus and execution. Our defense was unreal in both games. I could not say enough about the way we executed, moved the ball and competed," said head coach Scott Rueck.
The Pac-12's leading three-point shooter, Lily Hansford, made her first two two-pointers of the year on backdoor cuts in the go-ahead run. Unable to score fewer than three twice in a row, Hansford's second layup was an and-one. She knocked down her free throw to put the Beavs in front. Hansford finished the game with 11 points, four rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block.
The momentum didn't stop there, Oregon State started the second quarter on a 13-2 run, led by Timea Gardiner and Talia von Oelhoffen. With a seamless hook pass at the top of the arc from von Oelhoffen to get her started, Gardiner led the Beavers in scoring during the second quarter going 3-for-3 from behind the arc. The sophomore put 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and a block on the board for Oregon State.
Von Oelhoffen joined Gardiner on the run, putting up eight points on the board in the second quarter. She finished with 18 points, three assists, two rebounds and a block. The junior hit back-to-back triples to end the first half, sending Oregon State to the locker room with a 44-24 lead.
Playing in front of her family and friends in her home state, Raegan Beers grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go with 12 points for another double-double. The sophomore used the extra attention from the Buffs to set up her teammates, giving out a season-high of four assists. She also blocked three shots.
Colorado narrowed the score in the fourth quarter, forcing Oregon State to hang on at the end. The Beavers did, however, to close out the historic day.
OSU once again spent the day dropping dimes, dishing assists on 18 of 22 baskets. The Beavers had five players with multiple assists led by Beers and Donovyn Hunter.
The Beavers return home for two more Top-20 showdowns. Fans can get $4 tickets to either game against the LA Schools with code TOP5WIN through 5 p.m. on Monday.
