Well, not all of us are lazy. I would say most of us are not lazy-just learning. My motto is… When you know better, you do better. Thank you for teaching us new things.
I hope if you make another short video like this... that it will get much more traction (views). It is Practically (pun intended) a Commercial for what you are sharing with us! A concise message that Sold Me! -Yeah, I want a beautiful clean tank like this, too.. Doesn't almost everyone?
Kevin Novak are you saying that there will be no areas within a planted tank substrate that is placed on the bottom of the tank that will not have low enough oxygen levels to facilitate the growth of nitrate consuming bacteria? There should be fluctuations in redox within the substrate that is constantly changing the microbe assemblage. Denitrification should always be taking place in an undisturbed substrate at any one time. As roots penetrate the substate and oxygenate the rhizosphere the nitrate consuming bacteria will just shift to areas with low enough oxygen.
Interesting Kevin, you can see videos of 2 years of my planted aquarium on my channel, No (visible) Algae on my plants, and before that 30 years of No(visible) Algae on my plants as well. Always with a slow moving plenum. Of course I do balance lighting, stocking, feeding, fertilising and water changing, but No algae of the types you are referring to.
As your saying “it’s because they put the substrate on the bottom of the tank” your camera was filming clearly your substrate... on the bottom of your tank. Then you go off about your filter sock. What a bizarre video
Hi Dr Novak, Do you know if using Seachem Prime to dechlorinate water when doing water changes will kill the bacteria in the anoxic filter? Thanks for your videos, they got me very interested in trying this filtration method.
Marcio Goncalves I use sodium thiosulfate only to dechlorinate my water because it is used in all chlorine/chloramine removers. It is cheaper than all others and no extra chemicals in your tank. Seachem Prime will not hurt the Anoxic Filter at all.
