No Computer, No Problem! 12 Valve Cummins Expedition Truck

The PCM delete on this truck is easier than an auto transmission truck, but i think both are relatively straight forward. The things you will need to bypass are, Fuel Shutoff Solenoid, AC, Heat Grid, Voltage Regulator and Cruise Control. If you have an auto transmission, you will also have to bypass the overdrive. For my alternator, I went first with an external voltage regulator, but I had nothing but problems with this system. The wiring is easy, but the regulators themselves are absolute garbage. I went to a specialty shop and got an internal regulator installed, and it works flawlessly.
I hope this video has helped you with whatever PCM trouble you may be having.

No matter what DO NOT let Mick touch any of this ! Also make sure you have some kind of manual fuel shut off . Love that rig .
@mikedavison3400
@mikedavison3400 Год назад
I totally disagree! Mick coulda rigged everything up in no time at all and for far less $. You would just have to remember that the AC pumps out heat, the tach will give you the alternator charging voltage, and a few other minor quirks. In all seriousness I’m surprised your battery survived the 17V charge time. They can take short bursts of that kind of voltage but not long ones. There’s a guy named ‘Handy Bob’ that has all sorts of info on solar and batteries. My solar will charge my 2 Trojan 6V golf cart type batteries at ~14.7V when it’s warm up to 15.2V when it’s cold. Nice having a controller that keeps track of that. Many controllers wouldn’t permit charge voltages of anything >14V which meant that batteries were chronically undercharged. Dead within a year.

So if we get nuked, the EMP won't leave this truck useless. It will be the only runner in town.
@KRich408
@KRich408 Год назад
Not entirely true, the batteries will go in an EMP situation you will have to find a way to start it, push start (manual transmission only) is possible, could park on a hill and hope it starts before reaching the bottom. And in the winter it will be even harder to start without batteries. I've driven Computer Free diesels for years (not modified just older) once it's running it needs no power. It's impractical to leave it running waiting for TSTHTF.

ok stoopid carrington event melted wires by sending to many amps through. be smart or be censored with death
@journeybeforedestinationov3553
With the battery hooked up in the rig the way this one is, an EMP would not cause the battery to go bad. Chances are the starter would be good as well.

You can get the tach to work. The crank sensor is a tone wheel with a pickup sensor, it sends pulses over time. You can create a timer with a 555 timer circuit and have an output pulse for the tach. These circuits are easy to make but will take a little time and research.
@redbaronrefining5322
@redbaronrefining5322 2 месяца назад
You read/wrote my mind! I was just about to suggest something like this, although you’ll have to add a small PNP transistor most likely to amplify the signal from that pick up, depending on its impedance. Technically, you could just get a really dumb decameter that only needs a pulse of electricity and has its own built-in controller and then use a magnet on the crank pulley with a pick up sensor so it can use Eddie currents to send the RPM to the gauge

Although a great rebuild could you show the fires that are impacting British Columbia? And actually, show how people are receiving help and assistance, with their permission obviously, show how they find a fire map, and or cooling centers, show why " Ring" or other products impact their insurance products, and perhaps do a video on how fireproofing helps get through the significant impacts these have on real people? You are nearer than I am Dustin. Grateful for the drives lately, British Columbia is a beautiful place. Also, how are privacy laws impacting how media can or cannot report on the impact of those fires, Thanks so much, Dustin.

I love Weds edition.. I love that truck.. I want one just like it.. I just got the AC fixed in my Subaru (o rings & $300 in recharge kits later) man it is so nice having the air coming out of the vents at +4ºC (40F). I have a cup holder zip-tied to my driver-side vent, and in 30 mins I can take a can of water and have it chilled to drinkable temp. For my build: I still need struts all for corners are being replaced with Forester struts (2" ground clearance), biggers wheels/tires from 195 60R15 to 205/55R16, I'll get the brakes done at the same time as the struts (and probably the same with ball joints, tie rods etc.)

Once you get used to it. You will now when to shift by speed and engine noise. I've been driving semi 30+ yrs and I can't remember last time I looked at the tach. If I'm skipping several gears I'll just look at my speed and I know what gear I should be in. People will say but you can only do that with a semi, WRONG. I've had many manual transmissions both gas and diesel and only shift by sound and speed. I also only use the clutch when taking off from a stop or backing. So you will be fine without a tach.

In my opinion you don't really need the tach.. my old 91 never had one from factory. It's hard to over-rev as well as hard to lug them. You'll pick a sound that indicates to you where to shift eventually. I assume you will run the lower end of the range, which is just kinda where these things like to run at. You can't go wrong. If it lugs that's too low. Lol. If I ignored the tach I shifted a 15 litre diesel at around 1700 rpm. Which usually worked out rather well!
@AutomotiveAnomaly
@AutomotiveAnomaly Год назад
You can use the stock crank sensor to run an aftermarket tach. Super easy to do you just need to wire a 1k ohm resister from the signal wire to the power wire. If you need a wiring diagram just let me know. This is how i run my tach on my ford cummins conversion.

Pretty sure you are INCORRECT re, automatic trans. 47 / 48R "E" means electronic shift as opposed to AKA 46RH meaning, "Hydraulic" shift. (The older "H" series shift just like the 60's--70's transmissions, no electronic controller. The converter lock/ OD are simply controlled with as simple as toggle switches, but an RE MUST have an external controller to shift. As far as I know, there are certain aftermarket all manual valve bodies available, and I thing one of the TransGo kits will accomplish that, but this will leave you with a MANUALLY shifted trans from gear to gear I do know there are differences in the VB between 42/44/46RE series and the 47/48 V10/ diesel transmissions so it bears looking into
